Aptera says a production-intent version of its solar electric vehicle traveled more than 300 miles on a single charge during a solar-supported drive along historic Route 66. The company’s March 28, 2025 account follows co-CEO Steve Fambro and a small crew through Flagstaff, Hackberry, Kingman, and Lake Havasu—but it is Aptera’s own account, not an independent vehicle test.
What Aptera says happened on Route 66
Aptera describes the drive as its first solar road trip in a production-intent vehicle. According to the company, the team covered more than 300 miles on a single charge while traveling through the American Southwest. The published route narrative names Flagstaff, Hackberry, Kingman, and Lake Havasu; it does not provide a complete trip log or exact route mileage. Aptera’s March 28, 2025 road-trip account includes co-CEO Steve Fambro’s description of the route as “kind of the path not really taken.”
What the solar figures do—and don’t—show
Aptera reports that the vehicle was drawing 300 watts of solar power in Flagstaff and that the team saw more than 545 watts of solar input on an overcast day. Those are observations of power at particular moments, not totals for the trip. Watts describe an instantaneous rate; the energy collected over time is measured in watt-hours or kilowatt-hours.
The road-trip account does not give total solar energy collected, battery state of charge, driving speeds, a full weather record, or the measurement method. The reported figures therefore cannot establish how much of the 300-plus-mile drive was powered by the sun, or independently confirm the vehicle’s total energy use.

How the drive compares with Aptera’s current claims
Aptera’s current vehicle page lists a 400-mile range per full charge and up to 40 miles of solar-powered driving per day. These are company-stated targets, not confirmed production specifications or guaranteed daily results. The page also says, “Vehicle shown is in testing and validation; specifications are subject to change.” Aptera’s vehicle page presents the figures with that qualification.
The reported Route 66 trip and the current range figure are not an apples-to-apples comparison: the trip is a company-reported result for one drive, while the 400-mile figure is a current company target. The available account does not include enough battery, route, speed, or weather data to assess the result against that target.

Aptera’s later solar-generation figure
In a June 25, 2026 release, Aptera reported generating 4.42 kWh of solar energy during real-world testing. The company said that amount could provide up to 44 miles, calculated using its 100 Wh-per-mile efficiency design target. The 44 miles is a calculation from the stated target, not a separately measured distance driven on solar power. Aptera’s website is the source for the company’s vehicle claims; the release summary does not establish further test conditions or methodology.

The Route 66 story is useful as a company-reported demonstration, but it does not supply the data needed to independently reproduce or evaluate the drive. In particular, it does not publish a full drive log, exact route mileage, battery state-of-charge record, total solar energy gathered, or complete weather conditions. No independent verification of this specific trip is established by the available sources.

Aptera markets a Camping Kit as an overnight-use accessory, but its road-trip account does not say that the kit was used on this drive. The accessory is not evidence about the trip’s range or solar performance.
