No official 2023 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution concept is established in Mitsubishi’s records cited here. The vehicle that most likely causes the confusion is the MITSUBISHI e-EVOLUTION CONCEPT, an all-electric high-performance SUV prototype unveiled in 2017—not a 2023 production car or a confirmed Lancer Evolution revival.
What was Mitsubishi’s e-EVOLUTION CONCEPT?
Mitsubishi Motors debuted the e-EVOLUTION CONCEPT at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show in October 2017. The company called it a technical prototype intended to show its strategic direction, combining SUV capability, electric-vehicle technology and connected-mobility systems. It was presented as an SUV, not as a new generation of the Lancer Evolution. Mitsubishi’s October 25, 2017 announcement and its global design archive place the concept at the 2017 show.
The distinction matters because “2023 Mitsubishi EVO” and similar phrases can suggest a new model year or an announced successor. The official Mitsubishi materials cited here do not establish either. Any image presented online as a 2023 Lancer Evolution should be treated as a fan rendering or speculative design only when its source identifies it as such; the provenance of a particular image cannot be inferred from its appearance alone.
Why does the concept look performance-focused?
Mitsubishi’s design description combines SUV proportions with details intended to communicate speed and capability. It cites a sharply slanted windshield, high ground clearance, short overhangs, broad shoulders, narrow hips and large tires pushed toward the corners. The black, glass-covered grille is accented in blue around cameras and sensors. Large openings below the headlamps were intended to cool electric brake calipers, while fins at the C-pillars were designed to guide airflow. At the rear, the hexagonal motif references the spare-tire cover of the Pajero, according to Mitsubishi.

Inside, the concept used a horizontal instrument panel and a wide display for vehicle conditions, navigation and driver coaching. Smaller screens showed camera views to the front and rear. Mitsubishi’s design archive describes the cabin as airy while retaining a close, sporty cockpit feel. These are design details and intentions described for a prototype; “screams performance” is a styling judgment, not a measured performance result.
What powertrain and technology did Mitsubishi announce?
Mitsubishi described a three-motor electric four-wheel-drive layout: one motor at the front and two at the rear. The rear motors worked through an Active Yaw Control (AYC) unit for torque vectoring, and the manufacturer said the arrangement was integrated with its Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) vehicle-dynamics system. The drive battery sat beneath the floor in a mid-ship position, which Mitsubishi said helped create a low center of gravity. These were announced concept specifications, not verified specifications for a production vehicle.

The company also described an AI system designed to interpret road and traffic conditions along with driver intent, coordinate vehicle performance, and provide coaching through voice dialogue and the dashboard display. That was a proposed concept function, not evidence that the system became a production feature.
Did Mitsubishi announce a 2023 Lancer Evolution revival?
The available official sources do not announce one. Mitsubishi Motors North America’s Lancer and Lancer Evolution history page says the Lancer is no longer in production. It notes that the Lancer debuted globally in 1973 and that the Lancer Evolution became available in the United States in 2003, but it does not identify a 2023 successor.

That evidence supports a careful conclusion: the 2017 e-EVOLUTION concept was an electric SUV prototype, while the cited U.S. history page provides no confirmation of a 2023 Lancer Evolution. It does not prove that no speculative image or rumor circulated; it means those items should not be presented as an official Mitsubishi announcement without a verifiable manufacturer source.

The cited Mitsubishi materials describe the motor configuration and vehicle systems, but they do not provide independently measured acceleration, power, driving range, battery capacity, price or road-test results for the prototype. Mitsubishi’s three-motor description is a system layout, not a performance statistic. The concept therefore cannot be fairly compared with production Evos on quantified performance using these sources.
