A red Toyota Kluger crashed into a parked car and a home on Tyne Crescent in Wanneroo on 15 September 2022 after a police pursuit that PerthNow said began in nearby Pearsall. Homeowner Chloe Monamy told the newspaper she was overwhelmed by the wreckage when she returned from dinner with her family.
How the Wanneroo crash happened
PerthNow reported that police tried to stop the Toyota on Ocean Reef Road in Pearsall at about 6:20pm on Thursday, 15 September 2022. The report said police alleged the vehicle was being driven recklessly. It also said as many as 10 police cars were believed to have joined the pursuit; that figure was reported as an estimate, not a confirmed count.
According to the report, the Toyota travelled along St Fillans Bend, overshot a right turn onto Tyne Crescent, hit a parked car and then crashed into a house. The account describes damage to a section of brick wall, an uprooted letterbox and a metal pole supporting parts of the garage. PerthNow reported the incident on 16 September 2022.
What Chloe Monamy said after seeing the damage
Monamy told PerthNow that her family had been out to dinner. She said she returned to find missed calls from relatives and quickly realised something had happened: “When we finished dinner I had about seven missed calls on my phone and my husband had about four, so we knew straight away something had happened,” she said.

She described feeling overwhelmed when she saw the wreckage. The report said the crash cost the family a car, car seats and a pram. Monamy said, “We’re just glad everyone is OK but it’s very inconvenient,” capturing both the relief and the practical disruption she described.
What a neighbor reported seeing
Neighbor Jude Gauntlett told the newspaper he heard a loud bang and saw debris. He described it as “the worst noise I’ve ever heard.” The report also said Gauntlett saw the driver flee; this is his account as reported by PerthNow, not an independently established finding.

Arrests and charges reported at the time
PerthNow reported that a 36-year-old man was arrested after being found in nearby wetlands and charged with several offences, including reckless driving to escape pursuit and driving without authority. The article also reported that charges were laid against the 32-year-old passenger. These were allegations and charges reported in September 2022, not findings of guilt. The available account does not establish a later court outcome.
