The report says cousins Dylan Schmidt and Jayden Meyers escaped with minor injuries after their boat rolled on a bend and hit a safety barrier. The exact championship round or clip implied by the title is not confirmed.
What happened in the WA jet boat rollover?
According to 7NEWS’s report published 27 February 2023, Schmidt and Meyers were racing at the Baldivis venue when their boat became unstuck on a bend at about 100 km/h. It flipped and rolled before striking a safety barrier. The speed is specific to this incident as reported by 7NEWS; it is not a general figure for jet-sprint racing.
Where did it happen?
The report places the crash at West Coast Jet Sprint Club in Baldivis, south of Perth, Western Australia. The report describes a race on a Saturday night but does not identify the specific WA Superboat Championships round, so the incident should not be assigned to a particular round without confirmation.
Were the racers injured?
7NEWS reported that both men escaped with minor injuries after safety crew responded. Navigator Dylan Schmidt had a broken nose and was released from hospital the following morning. Driver Jayden Meyers had cuts and bruises. Schmidt described getting out of the boat: “As soon as I got out, blood everywhere just streaming out my nose,” he told 7NEWS.

What safety equipment was involved?
West Coast Jet Sprint Club president Jason Furnell told 7NEWS that the boats have a roll cage, seats and harnesses, and said competitors are buckled in. Furnell described the setup as “pretty close to every other motorsport standard”; that is his characterization, not an independently established technical finding. He also said: “They are designed to take a hit and unfortunately sometimes they can be fixed and other times not.”
Meyers told 7NEWS: “If we weren’t wearing the protection we were wearing we wouldn’t be here talking today.” The report does not identify which specific protective item he meant or establish how any individual item affected the outcome.

Is this the same rollover shown in other WA event footage?
Not necessarily. The official West Coast Jetsprint event page for 6 April 2024 describes a separate rollover during qualifying involving Kurt and Claire Martin’s boat, Deadpool. It is not the 2023 incident involving Schmidt and Meyers.
Streamer’s WA Superboat Championships page lists 2022–23 qualifying and elimination replays, including clips described with rollover or flipping language. Those listings alone do not verify that the title refers to the 7NEWS crash or identify a particular round. Check the date, named crew and session before treating event footage and news coverage as the same incident.
