The Volonaut Airbike is a demonstrated, single-seat personal aircraft with reservations open—not a conventional motorcycle, and not yet a verified mass-produced or widely delivered vehicle. Volonaut is advertising a $880,000 purchase path and broadly targeting production and delivery for 2026. The company has published specifications, flight demonstrations, and a staged reservation process, but the available evidence does not confirm a firm factory start date, final certified configuration, production volume, or completed customer deliveries.
What is the Volonaut Airbike?
The Airbike is Volonaut’s single-occupant vertical-takeoff-and-landing personal aircraft. Its styling and astride riding position are intended to resemble a flying motorcycle or science-fiction speeder bike, but it is not a road motorcycle in the conventional technical or legal sense.
Instead of wheels and an electric or piston-powered motorcycle drivetrain, the vehicle uses compact, redundant jet turbines. Volonaut says a fully redundant flight computer provides stabilization and control. The project is associated with Polish inventor and entrepreneur Tomasz Patan.
Public demonstrations reported by New Atlas have shown takeoff, hovering, landing, and forward flight. That is meaningful evidence that a functioning prototype or demonstrator exists. It is not, by itself, evidence that the same performance, safety systems, or configuration will be present on customer-production vehicles.

Volonaut Airbike specifications
Volonaut’s current product information lists the following headline figures:
| Specification | Published figure or description |
|---|---|
| Occupants | One |
| Empty mass | 30 kg / 66 lb |
| Maximum pilot mass | 95 kg / 209 lb |
| Maximum flight time | Up to 10 minutes |
| Propulsion | Redundant jet turbines |
| Listed fuels | Diesel, biodiesel, Jet-A1, and kerosene |
| Refueling time | Under one minute |
| Flight control | Fully redundant flight computer with enhanced stabilization |
| Commercial speed specification | 102 km/h / 63 mph |
| Broader headline speed claim | Up to 124 mph |
These are company-supplied figures. The Airbike’s published 10-minute maximum flight time should not be converted into a range estimate. Volonaut has not supplied enough information—such as cruise speed, fuel capacity, fuel-burn rate, operating altitude, reserve policy, or environmental conditions—to calculate a responsible range.
New Atlas reported the same 30-kg mass, 95-kg pilot limit, approximately 10-minute maximum flight time, multiple jet engines, and 63-mph commercial cap. It also noted that the exact thrust figure had not been disclosed. That omission matters: without engine count, thrust, fuel burn, and operating limitations, it is impossible to independently assess useful load, climb performance, endurance, or practical operating range.
Why are there two different top-speed figures?
Volonaut’s descriptive copy says the Airbike can reach up to 124 mph, while the technical specification lists 102 km/h—approximately 63 mph—and connects that lower figure to the FAA ultralight framework. New Atlas likewise reported that the commercial version would be capped at 63 mph.

Those figures should not be presented as interchangeable, and readers should not assume that a customer-delivered vehicle will be permitted to operate at 124 mph under the same regulatory classification.
Is the Airbike really going into production in 2026?
“Production slated for 2026” is a reasonable description of Volonaut’s stated plan, but it should not be upgraded to “in production” or “shipping now.” The official preorder page is live and describes a path from reservation to build slot to delivery. It does not publish a precise manufacturing start date, production quantity, or customer-delivery calendar.

New Atlas reported in July 2025 that Volonaut planned a limited production run and expected reservations to open on August 1, 2025. The existence of a price, reservation system, and delivery process demonstrates substantial commercial intent. It does not prove that a customer-ready production fleet has been completed.
As of the research snapshot dated August 12, 2026, the reviewed material did not independently establish completed customer deliveries. That distinction is important: reservations are available, but verified deliveries are not established by the available evidence.

Volonaut’s listed purchase path totals $880,000, divided into three stages:
- Stage 01—Reservation: $2,000. This payment is described as non-refundable and intended to secure an early place on the list. Volonaut says it is not itself a binding purchase agreement.
- Stage 02—Deposit: $80,000. The deposit is described as securing a build slot. Volonaut says it will contact the customer when the production version is frozen and ask whether the customer wants to proceed. The company says this deposit remains refundable until the buyer finalizes the purchase at Stage 03.
- Stage 03—Delivery: $798,000. The final payment is due when final assembly has started. Delivery and training are then to take place at Volonaut’s U.S. facility.
The arithmetic is straightforward: $2,000 + $80,000 + $798,000 = $880,000. However, this is not the same as ordering an immediately available vehicle from ordinary inventory. The terms remain connected to finalizing the production configuration and a later purchase agreement. Anyone considering a reservation should read the current terms carefully and confirm refund conditions, delivery obligations, taxes, transportation, insurance, and what happens if the production specification changes.
Does the Airbike need a pilot’s license?
Volonaut says that no license is required in the United States when the vehicle operates in compliance with the FAA’s ultralight rules. The FAA’s Part 103 guidance confirms that qualifying ultralight vehicles do not require a pilot certificate, but they remain subject to operating rules.
Under the cited framework, a powered ultralight is a single-occupant vehicle used for recreation or sport that, among other requirements:

- weighs less than 254 pounds empty;
- carries no more than 5 U.S. gallons of fuel;
- has a maximum full-power, level-flight calibrated airspeed of 55 knots; and
- has a power-off stall speed no greater than 24 knots.
The Airbike’s published 30-kg empty mass is well below the 254-pound limit, and its single-seat design and 63-mph commercial speed claim are presented as consistent with the U.S. ultralight positioning. But the reviewed sources do not publish the Airbike’s fuel capacity or power-off stall speed. Therefore, the careful wording is that Volonaut positions the commercial configuration for FAA ultralight compliance; the available information does not independently certify that every production configuration satisfies every Part 103 criterion.
“No license required” is also not a worldwide rule. Other countries may classify the vehicle differently and may require pilot qualifications, registration, airspace permissions, insurance, aircraft approval, or other operating authorizations. Even in the United States, Part 103 operating restrictions still apply. Buyers should obtain current guidance from the relevant aviation authority and qualified aviation counsel before flying.
What has been demonstrated—and what has not?
Demonstrated or publicly shown
- A functioning vehicle or demonstrator has performed takeoff, landing, hovering, and forward flight in public demonstrations.
- The vehicle is controlled from a single-seat, astride riding position.
- Volonaut is presenting a redundant jet-propulsion and flight-control concept.
- The company has established a commercial reservation and payment structure.
Still unconfirmed in the available evidence
- The exact engine make, model, number, thrust output, and fuel-burn rate.
- Independently audited or certified performance data.
- Production-unit flight-test results.
- Crashworthiness, occupant protection, emergency-landing behavior, and noise levels.
- The final production configuration and whether it will retain the same speed limit in every market.
- The final production quantity and manufacturing location.
- Confirmed customer deliveries as of August 12, 2026.
- Regulatory approval or operating permission outside the United States.
These unknowns are not minor details for a vehicle that carries a person above the ground using jet propulsion. A demonstration proves that the engineering concept can fly under the demonstrated conditions; it does not establish reliability, maintainability, emergency procedures, or safe operation across the full envelope.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What would ownership involve beyond the purchase price?
The $880,000 price is only the visible entry point. The practical ownership requirements are not yet fully documented, but a prospective owner should expect to investigate fuel supply, secure storage, transport, maintenance, training, operating permissions, and insurance.
Volonaut says delivery includes training at its U.S. facility. That does not necessarily answer where or how an owner may legally practice, what recurrent training is required, or who will maintain the turbine and flight-control systems after delivery. Jet propulsion also raises obvious questions about noise, fuel handling, hot-section maintenance, parts availability, and inspection intervals—questions the current public material does not answer.
Insurance is another unresolved issue. Buyers may eventually need to investigate ultralight aircraft insurance or specialist personal-aircraft coverage, but no specific provider, policy, price, or Volonaut requirement has been verified. Coverage availability will likely depend on the final aircraft configuration, operating location, pilot experience, and applicable law.

For the sci-fi fan
Volonaut explicitly presents the Airbike as a real-world interpretation of the science-fiction speeder-bike idea. Readers interested in that visual lineage may prefer a Star Wars speeder bike model kit or other display collectible. That is a thematic product for fans—not Airbike equipment, a compatible part, or an alternative aircraft—and it should be considered separately from the vehicle’s technical and purchase questions.
Bottom line: a real demonstrator, an expensive reservation, and an unfinished story
The Volonaut Airbike has progressed well beyond a rendering or purely speculative concept. A working demonstrator has flown, Volonaut publishes technical claims, and the company is accepting reservations toward a listed $880,000 vehicle.
But the 2026 production claim should be read as a target, not proof of mass production or widespread delivery. The most accurate description is a demonstrated, limited-production personal aircraft with reservations open and production and delivery broadly targeted for 2026. The key questions for buyers remain the final configuration, verified production-unit performance, safety and emergency procedures, manufacturing volume, delivery evidence, noise, ongoing support, and the rules that will apply in the owner’s country.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Volonaut Airbike a motorcycle?
It resembles a motorcycle because the pilot rides astride it, but technically it is a single-seat powered aircraft or personal VTOL vehicle. Its propulsion comes from jet turbines rather than wheels and a conventional motorcycle drivetrain.
How much is the Volonaut Airbike?
Volonaut lists a total price of $880,000: a $2,000 non-refundable reservation, an $80,000 deposit for a build slot, and a $798,000 final payment when final assembly has started.
Can the Airbike fly for 10 minutes and travel 124 miles?
No such range should be inferred. The company lists up to 10 minutes of flight time and separately mentions a headline speed of up to 124 mph. The commercial specification is 102 km/h, or 63 mph, and the available sources do not provide the fuel-burn, fuel-capacity, or cruise data needed to calculate range.
Do you need a pilot’s license to fly it?
Volonaut says no U.S. pilot certificate is required when the vehicle qualifies and is operated under FAA Part 103 ultralight rules. That does not mean it is exempt from all aviation rules, and other countries may impose different licensing, registration, airspace, or insurance requirements.
