Volkswagen is still planning an entry-level electric car priced at around €20,000, and its current public preview is the ID. EVERY1. Volkswagen says the production version is scheduled for series production in 2027.
However, it is not yet a production vehicle available to order. The official figure is approximately €20,000 in Europe, not a confirmed $20,000 U.S. MSRP. And the “show it next month” promise referred to September 2025—not a future reveal in 2026.

What Volkswagen actually promised
Volkswagen unveiled the ID. EVERY1 concept on March 5, 2025, as a preview of a smaller, lower-cost electric hatchback. The company said a production version would launch in Europe in 2027, with a starting price of around €20,000. Volkswagen’s announcement described it as part of a broader effort to make electric mobility accessible beyond more expensive vehicles.

“Next month” meant September 2025
The original wording is easy to misread now. After revealing the concept in March 2025, Volkswagen said it would present its Electric Urban Car Family in autumn. The ID. EVERY1 subsequently appeared at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, held September 8–14.
Volkswagen did show the car, but it remained explicitly a concept. September 2025 was not a production-car launch, customer-order opening, or confirmation that the final vehicle had entered mass production. Volkswagen’s concept-car page continued to describe the production model as planned for 2027.
Is Volkswagen still making it?
As of August 18, 2026, the answer is best stated as: Volkswagen is still developing and planning the car, but it has not yet put it into consumer production.
That conclusion is supported by several developments:

- Volkswagen continues to list the ID. EVERY1 as a future entry-level model for 2027.
- The company’s 2026 Factbook still gives the vehicle an approximate €20,000 starting-price target.
- Volkswagen Group has described the program as part of its European entry-level EV strategy and has discussed technology and software testing involving production-intent development vehicles.
The distinction matters. “Being made” currently means planned, engineered, and under development—not that customers can walk into a dealership and buy one. Volkswagen’s 2026 Factbook is a roadmap document, not a retail price list or production-start announcement.
What is the ID. EVERY1?
Volkswagen positions the ID. EVERY1 as an entry-level, front-wheel-drive electric hatchback for Europe. It is intended to sit below the larger electric small car associated with the ID. 2all concept and the production name ID. Polo.
For the concept, Volkswagen claimed:
| Item | ID. EVERY1 concept claim |
|---|---|
| Length | 3,880 mm |
| Motor | 70 kW, or 95 PS |
| Top speed | 130 km/h |
| Range | At least 250 km |
| Layout | Front-wheel drive |
| Seating | Four occupants |
Those are concept-car figures, not confirmed production specifications. The claimed 250 km is roughly 155 miles, but the final battery capacity, official WLTP range, charging performance, acceleration, equipment, and dimensions may change before series production.

ID. EVERY1 versus ID. Polo
Volkswagen’s affordable-EV plan involves at least two different cars, not two names for the same vehicle.
| Model | Role | Planned timing | Price positioning |
|---|---|---|---|
| ID. Polo | Larger electric small car related to the ID. 2all concept | 2026 | Under-€25,000 class |
| ID. EVERY1 | Smaller entry-level EV | 2027 | Around €20,000 |
The wider Electric Urban Car Family is also expected to support related SEAT/CUPRA and Škoda products. Shared platforms, software, components, and manufacturing are central to Volkswagen’s attempt to make smaller EVs financially viable.
Volkswagen has described the program as “from Europe for Europe.” That makes the ID. EVERY1 particularly relevant to European buyers, but it does not establish that the car will be sold in North America.

The company’s figure is approximately €20,000. The eventual transaction price depends on exchange rates, local taxes, equipment, delivery charges, certification, distribution, and dealer costs. European advertised prices also cannot be compared directly with U.S. prices without accounting for differences in how taxes are displayed.
Even in Europe, “starting at around €20,000” normally describes the least expensive version. A car with a larger battery, faster charging, more safety equipment, upgraded infotainment, or desirable options could cost substantially more.
For U.S. shoppers, the practical answer is straightforward: there is no confirmed U.S. MSRP, ordering date, or launch plan for the ID. EVERY1 in the reviewed sources. Volkswagen’s European strategy should not be treated as evidence that an American version is coming.

What remains unknown
Volkswagen has not yet provided enough production information to judge whether the €20,000 target will translate into a compelling, widely available car. Buyers should look for these milestones:
Best Value
- A confirmed production name. “ID.1” is an informal or speculative label, not a confirmed final name in the reviewed official material.
- A named production plant and a firm production-start date.
- Final battery size, chemistry, usable capacity, and warranty.
- Final WLTP range and charging-power figures.
- A country-specific price list, including whether the advertised price includes VAT.
- Standard equipment at the entry price.
- A customer order page and delivery timetable.
- Confirmation of which European markets will receive the car first.
Until those details arrive, the €20,000 figure remains a manufacturer target rather than a consumer-verified price.
What compromises might be involved?
A genuinely inexpensive EV will probably prioritize efficient urban and suburban transportation over long-distance performance. The concept’s modest output and range point toward a smaller battery, lower performance, and careful control of standard equipment. Slower DC charging than larger EVs would also be unsurprising at this price point.
Those are engineering expectations, not confirmed specifications. The final car could gain range, power, or equipment—or become more expensive as Volkswagen resolves battery, labor, compliance, and software costs.
The program also faces ordinary launch risks: production could slip beyond 2027, the headline price could apply only to a sparsely equipped trim, availability could be limited to selected European markets, or higher-margin models could receive priority if manufacturing capacity is constrained.
What would turn the promise into a real buying opportunity?
The strongest evidence will not be another concept-car appearance. It will be a final production vehicle with a firm start date, published specifications, a country-specific price, and an active ordering process.
Until then, the ID. EVERY1 is more substantial than a vague design exercise: Volkswagen has named it, assigned it a role in its product plan, set a target price, and continued to list it for 2027. But it remains a future European model—not an available $20,000 American EV.
