The Volkswagen ID.UNYX 08 is a full-size electric SUV developed with XPENG for China. Volkswagen reports a range of more than 700 km on the CLTC cycle and, in a later announcement, up to 730 km. The company says the SUV is not offered for sale in Germany; its official materials position it as a China-market model. The often-quoted “425-mile” figure is not stated in the Volkswagen sources cited here.
What is the Volkswagen ID.UNYX 08?
The ID.UNYX 08—also styled ID. UNYX 08 and called 与众08 in Volkswagen China material—is a full-size, all-electric SUV jointly developed by Volkswagen and XPENG. Volkswagen says production began in Hefei, China. The model is part of the automaker’s “In China, for China” strategy, which combines Volkswagen engineering with local technology and development for the Chinese market. Volkswagen Group’s March 13, 2026 announcement described the vehicle as developed in China for China; Volkswagen Group China also covered the SUV in its March 13, 2026 newsroom release.
Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume described it as “The car was developed in China for China. With German engineering and local cutting-edge technology.” That is the company’s positioning, not an independent assessment of the SUV’s quality or performance.
What is the ID.UNYX 08’s range?
Volkswagen Group China reports more than 700 km of range on the CLTC test cycle. Volkswagen’s March 13, 2026 Group announcement describes the range as “up to over 700 km depending on the variant,” while the China newsroom release explicitly identifies the figure as CLTC. Volkswagen China later announced up to 730 km in an April 8, 2026 product release.

The “425-mile” number in the headline is not the official range figure stated in those sources. As a simple unit conversion, 700 km is about 435 miles and 730 km is about 454 miles. Those conversions do not turn CLTC results into an EPA or WLTP rating, nor do they establish how far the SUV will travel in everyday driving. Volkswagen’s published figures are manufacturer claims; the cited releases do not provide an independent road test or a separately verified 425-mile figure.
What are the published specifications?
Volkswagen Group’s 2026 model announcement lists approximate battery variants of 230 kW and 370 kW. Volkswagen Group China gives the exterior dimensions and wheelbase below. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent measurements.

Volkswagen also identifies 800V charging technology, Level 2 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and over-the-air (OTA) updates as features of the vehicle. The cited announcements do not establish charging times, driver-assistance performance, or compatibility with a particular third-party charger or accessory.
Can you buy the ID.UNYX 08 outside China?
Volkswagen’s Group announcement says the ID.UNYX 08 is not offered for sale in Germany. Its China-market communications describe the vehicle’s introduction in China through Volkswagen DSSO dealerships. These statements establish the company’s stated positioning and Germany exclusion, but they do not provide a complete, country-by-country list of markets where the SUV is or is not sold.
