Volkswagen says more than 950,000 ID.4 and ID.5 vehicles had been built by the time of the premiere; a September announcement separately described more than 950,000 as delivered since 2021. The ID. Tiguan is not simply a confirmed 2028 replacement: Volkswagen says the electric SUV is planned to reach markets as early as the beginning of 2027. The company announced pre-sales in Germany and many other European countries beginning October 13, 2026. That schedule does not establish availability in every country.
What changes in the design?
Volkswagen says the ID. Tiguan adopts its “Pure Positive” design language and moves away from the softer crossover shape of its predecessors toward a more upright, assertive SUV form. The company points to precise lines, sculpted surfaces, and a return to conventional pull-style exterior door handles. “Stronger styling” is a fair description of Volkswagen’s stated design direction, not an independent judgment about how the vehicle looks in person.

What are the announced powertrains and range?
Volkswagen lists three configurations for the European-market vehicle. The range figure is a manufacturer maximum under the WLTP test cycle, not an EPA rating or a prediction of real-world driving range.

Volkswagen says the ID. Tiguan will offer up to 600 km of WLTP range, depending on powertrain and battery. The announcement does not give a charging time or DC charging-power figure, so it does not establish whether the new SUV charges faster than the ID.4.

How much can it tow and carry?
Volkswagen’s announced utility figures vary by battery and configuration. They are manufacturer specifications, and the release does not establish that each figure will be offered in every market.

What is different inside?
The announced cabin layout pairs a 10-inch driver display with a 15-inch central infotainment screen and a 12-inch display for the front passenger. Volkswagen says the passenger screen has a privacy mode so its content is not visible to the driver; passengers can also listen using paired Bluetooth headphones.

Volkswagen says key functions return to physical controls: climate basics sit on a button bar, while audio controls use a center-console controller. The company also lists two front inductive charging points compliant with Qi2.
Retro display themes
Optional-looking themed interfaces are part of Volkswagen’s announcement, though the release does not specify availability by trim or market. A “Retro” Digital Cockpit theme takes inspiration from the Golf IV’s blue-and-red instruments. A virtual garage on the central display can show six historic or past Volkswagen models: Golf I, Golf II Country, Golf IV, Tiguan I, Race Touareg, and Beetle.

Which equipment and assistance features has Volkswagen announced?

Volkswagen also describes a PowerSocket adapter for vehicle-to-load (V2L). The figure is tied to that announcement and its European-market context; it is not a global price or a confirmed price for every country.
