Yes—by sales volume, the VinFast VF 3 has become a hit in Vietnam. But the often-quoted $9,000 price was a brief May 2024 introductory deposit offer there, not a current worldwide price: it was about US$9,248 without the battery, or US$12,390 with it. VinFast later reported 44,585 VF 3 deliveries in Vietnam in 2025, making it the country’s best-selling model that year.
Why the VF 3 is being called a hit
The sales figures tell a stronger story than the early preorder headlines alone. In its filing for 2025, VinFast reported 44,585 VF 3 deliveries in Vietnam and identified it as the country’s best-selling model that year. The company separately reported 46,977 VF 3 deliveries worldwide in 2025. Those are delivery counts, not reservations, and the Vietnam and global totals describe different geographies.
The initial response was also striking, but it measures a different thing. VinFast announced 27,649 non-refundable, non-transferable preorders in Vietnam within the first 66 hours after deposits opened in May 2024. Preorders are evidence of strong early demand; they should not be counted as delivered vehicles or assumed to have all become completed sales.
Together, the early order response and subsequent deliveries support calling the VF 3 a sales success, particularly in Vietnam. Unit counts alone do not establish owner satisfaction, reliability, product quality, or profitability.

What the $9,000 price actually meant
VinFast’s May 2024 introductory deposit offer in Vietnam quoted VND 235 million (approximately US$9,248) without the battery and VND 315 million (approximately US$12,390) with the battery. The offer applied to deposits placed May 13–15, 2024. The roughly $9,000 figure therefore refers to a short, historical, battery-excluded offer—not a current price, a universal price, or a like-for-like battery-included retail quote.
VinFast introduced the VF 3 in 2023 as a mini electric car designed for Vietnam. Deliveries began in Vietnam in July 2024, followed by the Philippines in November 2024 and Indonesia in March 2025, according to the company’s filing. Those dates document market entries, not present-day availability elsewhere.

What kind of EV is the VF 3?
VinFast’s Vietnam product page describes a four-seat mini EV measuring 3,190 mm long, 1,679 mm wide, and 1,652 mm high. Its compact footprint and four-seat layout distinguish it from a conventional full-size car; the published specifications should be treated as Vietnam-market figures, not guaranteed specifications for every market or model year.
Range, battery, and charging
VinFast lists a usable battery capacity of 18.64 kWh and a range of 215 km on the NEDC test cycle. NEDC is the stated basis for the manufacturer’s figure; it is not an independent real-world range result. The company also lists a 36-minute DC fast-charge time from 10% to 70% and maximum DC charging power of 24 kW.

Deliveries give concrete evidence that the VF 3 moved beyond an eye-catching preorder campaign: VinFast says it delivered tens of thousands in Vietnam in 2025 and ranked the model first nationally that year. The company’s global total is broader, while its Vietnam count makes the local success especially clear.
