A video dated October 3, 2023, shows a Tesla Cybertruck towing a large rocket engine on a trailer at SpaceX’s South Texas facilities, according to a report by Futurism. The report identified the payload as what appeared to be a Raptor Vacuum engine. The clip makes for an unusual sight, but it does not establish the trailer’s weight or prove the truck’s maximum towing ability.
What the video shows
Futurism’s October 6, 2023 report linked to a Starship Gazer video titled “Cybertruck Towing Raptor Rocket Engine at SpaceX Starbase Texas 4K60 on 10/3/23 Day 373 RVac.” The report describes the load as what appeared to be a Raptor Vacuum engine being carried on a trailer. The footage is a striking juxtaposition of Tesla’s electric pickup and SpaceX hardware, but the engine identification and scene context are attributed to the report and clip rather than independently authenticated.

The report also relayed a 3,500-pound engine-weight figure attributed to Electrek. That is not a SpaceX-published engine specification established by the sources here, so it should not be treated as a verified weight of the engine or the complete trailer load.
Does the clip prove how much a Cybertruck can tow?
No. Seeing a truck move with a trailer demonstrates only that it moved that particular load in the circumstances shown. The report did not give a measured trailer weight, test protocol, distance, road grade, braking data, or independent performance assessment. Without those details, the video cannot establish a maximum towing capacity or show how the setup performed under demanding conditions.

How much can a Cybertruck tow?
Tesla’s current US owner manual gives different maximum trailer weights by configuration. The limits below are manufacturer specifications, not measurements of the vehicle in the video.
| Cybertruck configuration | Maximum trailer weight | Maximum tongue weight |
|---|---|---|
| AWD with 20-inch wheels | 11,000 lb (4,990 kg) | 1,100 lb |
| Long Range with 18- or 20-inch wheels | 7,500 lb (3,402 kg) | 750 lb |
Tesla lists tongue weight at 10 percent of the applicable capacity. The manual says trailer weight includes cargo and additional equipment. Passengers, cargo, or equipment in the Cybertruck can reduce the tongue weight it can handle and therefore its towing capacity. Vehicle and trailer loading limits and local regulations also apply. Check the current Cybertruck Owner’s Manual towing section for the exact vehicle and follow its instructions.

Why the old 14,000-pound figure is not the current limit
Futurism’s 2023 story described Tesla’s then-promised towing capacity as more than 14,000 pounds, depending on configuration. That was a historical claim reported at the time, not the current limit in Tesla’s owner manual. Tesla’s current US product page advertises up to 11,000 pounds, while the manual specifies 11,000 pounds for AWD with 20-inch wheels and 7,500 pounds for Long Range versions with either listed wheel size. The manual’s configuration-specific values and loading cautions are the more useful reference for operating a particular truck.
