Futurism reported on November 2, 2024, that the sedan hit a tree and the Cybertruck then struck its rear. The footage and account do not establish that a theft occurred, who was driving, or what happened afterward.
What the video appears to show
In its November 2, 2024 report, Futurism, by Victor Tangermann, described footage shared by Cybertruck owner Stefen Phelps. One angle appears to show a person running to a car with something that looks like a package. The report also describes a second angle that appears to come from a smart doorbell.

The sequence described in the report is that a sedan hits a tree, after which the Cybertruck hits the sedan from behind. That is a description of the footage, not a legal finding about who caused the collision or why.
What is alleged—and what remains unknown
Futurism characterizes the person as an alleged or purported porch pirate, but the package contents are unclear and the report does not establish that anyone stole it. It does not identify the Cybertruck driver or the other person, provide a precise location, or report any later police, court, repair, or insurance outcome.

What Phelps said about the rental
According to Futurism, Phelps said the Cybertruck was rented through Turo and cost “$800” from Friday to Monday. He also reportedly said the neighborhood had been dealing with burglary issues throughout the week. Those are statements attributed to Phelps; the report does not independently verify them.
Insurance and responsibility were unresolved
The report said it was unclear whether insurance would cover the damage. It gives no later update on a claim, repairs, police involvement, or legal proceedings, so no outcome can be inferred from the account.
