Stuff’s hands-on review, published 21 April 2026, awarded it 5/5. The trade-offs are real. The bike weighs 23 kg, its frame-integrated battery is awkward to charge, and the suspension seatpost is an optional extra rather than standard equipment.
Unless noted, every specification and range figure below is reported by Stuff’s S6 review (2026). These are the reviewer’s reported figures, not independently verified manufacturer data, and the range results reflect one reviewer’s riding.

Ride and automatic shifting
The S6 keeps the 250 W front hub motor, four assistance levels and a Boost button. The reviewer found the assistance smooth and Boost useful for pulling away from traffic lights. Where the S6 really changes is the gearing system. Its revised three-speed automatic transmission makes shifts far less noticeable than on the S5, where a gear change could leave the pedals briefly slack while the system caught up.
The wide tyres and disc brakes performed well across the reviewer’s rides. For rougher roads, Stuff still recommends considering the optional Suspension Seatpost, which offers 30 mm of travel.

Range and charging
What the range figures mean
Stuff reports two endpoints for the 487 Wh battery:
- 37 miles at full power
- 92 miles in eco mode
The reviewer’s usual experience fell between those two figures. Real-world range depends heavily on assist level, rider weight, terrain, temperature and how often you use Boost, so treat the endpoints as a bracket rather than a promise.
Charging a bike that cannot come off the frame
Because the battery is built into the frame, you cannot take it out to charge it. The whole bike must be brought to a power socket, which takes 6 hours 30 minutes according to the review. The integration keeps the frame’s clean silhouette, but it makes charging less convenient for anyone without a suitable indoor spot to park the bike. At 23 kg, carrying it indoors or up stairs is also a real consideration.

Security
Built-in kick lock
The hub-mounted kick lock has a larger engagement sweet spot and better weather resistance than the S5’s, according to the review. Once it is engaged, an audible alarm sounds if someone moves the bike. The lock retracts when the bike is powered on with the paired phone within Bluetooth range.

Tracking and the Ride Pro subscription
Apple Find My is described as standard. Advanced GPS-based anti-theft tracking, along with health-app integration, is part of the Ride Pro subscription, which Stuff lists at £49 per year. That price is a review-time figure and may have changed, so confirm it with VanMoof before budgeting for it.
Add a separate lock
The reviewer still used a D-lock alongside the kick lock. For a bike at this price, a second independent lock is a sensible habit, regardless of how capable the built-in system is.

Phone mount and app
VanMoof replaced the previous SP Connect mount with a Peak Design SlimLink phone mount. It supports portrait or landscape orientation, has cases for many iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel models, and includes a universal adapter. The reviewer found it easy to use.
Built-in navigation was still in development in the app version Stuff tested. The reviewer had been told of a planned mapping partnership with Magic Lane, but navigation was not available at the time of the review. Check the current app before assuming it has turn-by-turn directions.

Repairability and service
The reviewer says the modular wiring makes repairs easier and that VanMoof has made spare parts more available and trained its technicians. These are the reviewer’s observations rather than measured service coverage, so they do not prove that every local shop can work on the bike. Most internal components remain custom, which means repairs still depend on VanMoof’s parts supply.

- Weight: 23 kg makes carrying and storing the bike difficult.
- Charging: the frame-integrated battery means the whole bike goes to the socket.

- Price: Stuff describes the S6 as premium but does not state a current price in the review text. Check VanMoof’s own pricing before comparing.
- Use case: the S6 suits city riding, commuting and leisure. Riders who want long-distance or off-road cycling should compare other bikes.
