The nine-time motorcycle world champion had to pit in Team WRT’s No. 46 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, which finished 38th with teammate Max Hesse.
What happened to Rossi’s BMW in Barcelona?
The door detached during the second race of the Barcelona Sprint Cup weekend, which concluded on 4 October 2026. Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya’s official event recap says Rossi had to pit after the incident and records the No. 46 car in 38th place at the finish.
Crash.net reported that Rossi was running 12th when the left-hand driver’s door came off and that the car was called in for safety and repair. That running position and the repair details are secondary reporting, rather than details specified in the venue’s recap. Crash.net’s report also says Rossi reacted on social media: “Everything happened this weekend, eh? But only bad things! Anyway…”
How did the Barcelona races compare?
Rossi and Hesse finished 16th in Race 1, according to the official GT World Challenge Europe results. Their 38th-place Race 2 finish followed the door-loss pit stop. Those results describe the two races; they do not establish a broader comparison of the car’s reliability or either driver’s performance.

Why did the driver’s door come off?
The cause has not been established in the available reporting. Crash.net said it was unclear, and neither the venue recap nor the cited reporting attributes the failure to contact, a latch, a structural problem, or a specific rule. No explanation from a steward, engineer, team representative, or Rossi is reported.
