ARIA is a modular electric-vehicle concept developed by TU/ecomotive, a student team at Eindhoven University of Technology. Its design explores whether app-guided diagnostics and replaceable components can make some repairs more accessible to owners. It is a prototype, not a production car established as available to buy.
What is ARIA?
TU/ecomotive announced ARIA on 26 November 2025 as its EM10 project: a student-built electric vehicle concept centered on the right to repair. The team describes itself as a student group working on sustainable mobility and concept cars. Its press page and team background explain the project and its context.
ARIA is best understood as an exploration of repairable vehicle design, not a consumer model with an established price, production plan, or retail availability. Euronews, reporting with the Associated Press on 20 January 2026, also describes it as a student-built concept car.
How is the vehicle intended to help owners repair it?
According to the team’s description in the Euronews/AP report, a user connects a phone to the vehicle through USB-C and runs a diagnostic app. The app uses a 3D model to guide the user toward the component identified as faulty. This is a proposed diagnostic and guidance approach; the report does not establish independently measured diagnostic accuracy or repair success rates.

The same report describes several design choices intended to improve access and replacement:
- Modular battery system: the battery is described as accessible and modular.
- Accessible drivetrain: the drivetrain is designed to be easier to reach.
- Replaceable exterior parts: bumpers and fenders are intended for quick replacement.
Project team manager Taco Olmar summarized the aim: “So, what we really try to do is that we give the consumer the power to repair their own car.” That statement describes the project’s goal, not proof that owners can perform every repair without professional help.

Does ARIA prove that owner-repairable EVs are more sustainable?
No measured environmental result is established in the available project announcement or Euronews/AP report. Making components easier to access or replace may support repairability as a design goal, but the sources provide no published ARIA figures for lifecycle emissions, repair costs, durability, repair outcomes, or service life. The concept therefore points to a sustainability approach; it does not demonstrate a quantified environmental benefit.
Can you buy ARIA or its parts?
The sources describe a concept vehicle and do not establish a consumer price, production plan, retail listing, or availability of compatible ARIA components. Its battery modules and body parts are project-specific in the reporting; no retail parts supply is identified. What ARIA does—and does not—show
ARIA makes a concrete design case for bringing diagnosis, component access, and selected replacements closer to the owner. Whether that approach would work at production scale would depend on factors the reporting does not establish, including parts availability, repair documentation, safety procedures, and demonstrated results across real-world repairs. For now, its significance is as a student prototype testing ideas about repairable EV design, rather than as a proven alternative to conventional electric cars.
