Travis Pastrana drives the Subaru Brataroo 9500 Turbo in the 2025 Gymkhana film Aussie Shred. Built by Subaru Motorsports USA and technical partner Vermont SportsCar specifically for the film, it is a highly modified, purpose-built reinterpretation of a 1978 Subaru BRAT—not a production car offered for sale.
The Brataroo pairs a turbocharged 2.0-liter boxer engine with all-wheel drive and a six-speed sequential gearbox. Subaru lists output at 670 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque, with the engine capable of more than 9,500 rpm.
What is the Subaru Brataroo 9500 Turbo?
The Brataroo takes design inspiration from the compact 1978 Subaru BRAT but is engineered as a competition and filming vehicle. Subaru Motorsports USA and Vermont SportsCar developed it for Pastrana’s Gymkhana run, giving it a carbon-fiber body, a purpose-built chassis, all-wheel drive and active aerodynamic features.
Subaru says active front-fender louvers and interchangeable, adjustable rear wings help change the car’s balance and attitude during driving and airborne maneuvers. It also ran 18-inch KMC forged wheels with Yokohama ADVAN A052 or APEX tires, selected for the stunt and surface. Those are build specifications, not a recommendation for a regular BRAT or another road car.

There is a specification difference between sources: Subaru Motorsports USA gives torque as 680 lb-ft, while Supercars reports 500 kW and 922 Nm. These figures are presented as each outlet reported them; the difference is not resolved here.
What happens in Gymkhana: Aussie Shred?
Aussie Shred premiered on Hoonigan’s YouTube channel on December 9, 2025, at 9 a.m. ET. Subaru’s release describes the film as Pastrana’s third Gymkhana film and his last in the series.

The film visits the Australian Outback, Sydney Harbour and Mount Panorama at Bathurst. Supercars says the Bathurst segment was filmed in collaboration with the championship and involved Gen3 Supercars.
Subaru’s premiere announcement describes stunts including the Brataroo hanging two tires off a pier, skimming across a lake and jumping 160 feet across a canyon gap over a road train; Subaru describes the canyon as 10 stories deep. These are stunt descriptions attributed to the official release, not independent measurements.
