For U.S. buyers, Tesla’s current offer is 2,000 free Supercharging miles—not 5,000—when an eligible gas or hybrid vehicle is traded in toward a new Tesla. Tesla’s China promotion is a separate offer for 5,000 kilometers, not miles, and has different eligibility and dates. Check the terms attached to your order because promotions can change or end.
What Tesla’s U.S. trade-in offer currently provides
Tesla’s U.S. Current Offers and Trade-Ins Support pages state that eligible customers who trade in a gas or hybrid vehicle toward a new Tesla receive 2,000 miles of free Supercharging. Tesla says the offer applies starting October 30, 2025; customers who started the trade-in process before that date but had not yet taken delivery may also qualify.
The promotional miles are added at delivery and expire two years after the delivery date. They are non-transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash. Tesla’s current offer page limits redemption to Tesla-owned Superchargers. Supercharging-related fees, including congestion fees, still apply, and the distance the credits cover may vary with driving behavior and environmental conditions.
Who qualifies—and what does not qualify
The bonus is narrower than Tesla’s general trade-in program. Tesla accepts passenger cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs for trade-in, but the Supercharging promotion specifically requires a gas or hybrid trade-in and a new Tesla order. Certified Pre-Owned purchases and B2B sales are excluded from this U.S. offer. If the trade-in is not completed, Tesla says it may revoke the promotional miles.

How to complete a Tesla trade-in
- Start before delivery: Submit the vehicle information through your Tesla Account or the Tesla app. Enter accurate details, including the VIN, mileage, and damage history.
- Review the final offer: Tesla provides a final trade-in offer after the order process, subject to physical inspection and document checks. Tesla says its offer is not negotiable and it does not match competing offers.
- Watch the offer deadline: The final offer expires after 30 days or 1,000 miles, whichever comes first.
- Hand over the vehicle at delivery: Approved trade-ins are handed over at the scheduled Tesla delivery appointment. The promotional benefit is added at delivery if the offer’s conditions are met.
Why some Tesla offers say 5,000
Tesla China lists a separate promotion for existing Tesla owners who order a new Tesla and complete an old-vehicle trade-in or transfer through Tesla or a partner service provider. That campaign offers 5,000 kilometers—not miles—for qualifying orders placed from January 1 through October 31, 2026, according to Tesla China’s current promotions page, last updated October 1, 2026. It is a regional campaign with its own terms, not evidence of a U.S. 5,000-mile benefit.
How to decide whether trading in makes sense
Compare the trade-in’s final net value—not just its headline offer—with what you could receive through a private sale or another buyer. Include any applicable state sales-tax effect: Tesla says trade-ins may receive a sales-tax credit in certain U.S. states, but the rules and eligibility depend on the state. Also weigh the convenience and timing of completing the trade-in at delivery against the condition, documentation, and handoff requirements.

Do not count the Supercharging miles as cash. They are non-transferable credits with an expiration date, and they do not eliminate all charging-related fees. Before placing or completing an order, confirm that the promotion appears in your Tesla order for your country and account, and read the attached terms.
