Toyota announced a 2026 model on December 3, 2025, and said it was expected at dealerships that winter. The announcement confirms a 2026 model; it does not establish that the Mirai had been discontinued. The key ownership question is whether you can reliably refuel where you live and drive.
What’s new on the 2026 Toyota Mirai?
Toyota identifies standard 19-inch black machine-finished aluminum-alloy wheels as the model-year update. The company lists 182 horsepower and a 402-mile EPA-estimated driving range. That range is an EPA rating, not a guarantee of distance in every driving or weather condition. Toyota’s announcement does not establish other major changes for 2026.

Mirai is a rear-wheel-drive fuel-cell electric vehicle. Its fuel-cell system combines stored hydrogen with oxygen from the air to generate electricity for the motor. A lithium-ion battery stores electricity from the fuel cell and regenerative braking. Toyota describes the vehicle as “plug-less”; routine refueling means filling its onboard tanks with compressed hydrogen at a station, not plugging it in to charge. Toyota says water is the only tailpipe emission.
Toyota says the hydrogen tank valves are designed to close automatically if sensors detect a leak or collision, and that the tanks meet applicable federal requirements, including FMVSS. These are Toyota’s safety descriptions, not a blanket guarantee; consult the vehicle documentation for details.

How much does a 2026 Toyota Mirai cost?
Toyota’s December 3, 2025 U.S. announcement gives a starting MSRP of $51,795, excluding a $1,195 dealer processing and handling fee. Toyota cautions that prices may change. The MSRP is not an out-the-door price: local taxes, dealer charges, inventory, and offers affect what a buyer pays. Check current terms with a local Toyota dealer.
What hydrogen fuel benefit and warranty does Toyota list?
Toyota’s 2026 materials state that a new purchase includes complimentary hydrogen benefits up to $15,000 or six years, whichever comes first. For a new lease, Toyota states up to $15,000 or three years, whichever comes first. These are capped benefits, not a promise of unlimited free fuel. Check the current offer terms and eligibility with Toyota or a dealer before relying on them.
Toyota lists an eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty for key fuel-cell electric vehicle components. The product page’s summary does not replace the warranty booklet; review it for covered parts, exclusions, and conditions.

Hydrogen access is the practical question to settle before buying or leasing. Toyota directs prospective owners to the Mirai product page for station information, including the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Partnership’s station map. Check the map and confirm directly with stations before making a purchase decision; station operation, hours, compatible fueling, and hydrogen prices can change.
- Confirm a station is currently operating and can fuel a Mirai.
- Check its hours and whether they fit your schedule.
- Map station options along your routine routes and longer trips, including a backup if your usual station is unavailable.
- Ask about current hydrogen prices and compare the likely cost with your driving needs.
A 402-mile EPA-estimated range and Toyota’s fuel benefit do not show whether refueling will be convenient in your area. Make the station check specific to your home, commute, and travel routes.
What should you verify before buying?
- Check local fueling. Use Toyota’s station information and confirm current availability, hours, compatibility, and price directly with stations.
- Get a current dealer quote. Ask about inventory, the transaction price, dealer charges, taxes, and any current offers.
- Read the benefit terms. Confirm purchase or lease eligibility, the applicable time limit, and how the stated dollar cap works.
- Review the warranty booklet. Verify coverage for the components and conditions that matter to you.
Specifications, pricing, and benefit terms above are Toyota-published figures, not independent comparative or real-world test results. Toyota’s announcement said dealership arrival was expected in winter 2025–26; contact a dealer for current inventory.
