The bZ3X has since launched in China: Toyota says it went on sale in March 2025. The bZ3C’s current production name and specifications are not established by the sources cited here.
What Toyota revealed in Beijing
Toyota presented the bZ3C and bZ3X as battery-electric vehicles developed for Chinese customers. The company said concept versions had appeared at Auto Shanghai the previous year and that the Beijing vehicles had been upgraded for mass production. In its April 2024 announcement, Toyota planned to begin sales of both in China within a year; that was a forecast, not confirmation that both launched on that schedule. Toyota’s April 25, 2024 announcement reported the world premieres.
The two vehicles were aimed at different buyers and presented with distinct concepts:
- bZ3C: A distinctively styled crossover under Toyota’s “Reboot” concept, intended as a fun personal space for younger Generation Z customers.
- bZ3X: A spacious, family-oriented SUV presented under a “Cozy Home” concept, with an interior designed to feel like a mobile living space.
Toyota said both featured driver-assistance systems and smart cockpits, but the reveal announcement did not provide detailed technical specifications.

How the two vehicles were developed
Toyota named different China-based partners for each vehicle. Both projects included Intelligent ElectroMobility R&D Center by TOYOTA (China) Co., Ltd., but the other named partners differed.

What happened after the debut
bZ3X: launched in China
Toyota’s 2025 Form 20-F says the bZ3X launched in China in March 2025. Toyota’s Integrated Report 2025 describes it as a China-market BEV and claims it became the top-selling BEV among China’s joint-venture brands in 2025. The report’s accompanying promotional material shows cumulative 2025 sales of 70,008 units; this is Toyota-reported, not an independently verified sales figure. Toyota 2025 Form 20-F and securities filings and Toyota Integrated Report 2025 provide the company’s reporting.

GAC Toyota’s site lists a 2026 bZ3X and offers inquiry, dealer-lookup, and test-drive options in China. Its page cautions that driving range and charging time are indicative and vary with environment, conditions, and use. Check the current listing directly for the configuration and figures relevant to a particular vehicle: GAC Toyota bZ3X.
bZ3C: current identity and specifications remain unclear
Toyota’s April 2025 China BEV announcement names the bZ3X and bZ5 in its lineup, but does not explicitly identify the bZ5 as the production version of the bZ3C. The reviewed sources therefore do not establish that the names refer to the same vehicle, nor do they verify the bZ3C’s current production name or detailed specifications. What can—and cannot—be compared
The available information supports a comparison of purpose, vehicle type, development partners, and known launch status. It does not support a meaningful numeric comparison of range, battery capacity, charging speed, price, or performance across both vehicles. Toyota’s 2024 reveal gave no detailed specifications, and the current GAC Toyota bZ3X page warns that its range and charging figures are indicative and usage-dependent.
Toyota’s announcement quoted Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Hiroki Nakajima: “What kind of BEV would bring smiles to the faces of our Chinese customers? Working with our partners in China, this quest led us to the bZ3C and the bZ3X.” That statement captures the reveal’s focus on local customer needs; it is not an independent assessment of either vehicle.
