Toyota GAZOO Racing unveiled the GR LH2 Racing Concept on June 11, 2025, at the Circuit de la Sarthe, the opening day of race week for the 93rd 24 Hours of Le Mans. It is a liquid-hydrogen test car for motorsport technology development. Toyota did not enter it in the race, and it did not present it as a competitor. Its stated purpose is future track testing.
What Toyota revealed
According to Toyota GAZOO Racing’s official release dated June 11, 2025, the GR LH2 made its public debut at the Circuit de la Sarthe and was exhibited in the Automobile Club de l’Ouest’s H2 Village during the 93rd Le Mans 24 Hours. Toyota described it as a test car meant to advance hydrogen technology in motorsport. The concept’s main disclosed details are below.

The release presents the GR010 only as the basis for the concept’s design. It does not transfer the GR010’s performance figures to the GR LH2.
Did the GR LH2 race at Le Mans?
No race entry is reported for the GR LH2. The 2025 announcement says the car was exhibited and intended for future track testing. It does not say the car competed in the 24 Hours, and no results are attributed to it. Readers searching for a Le Mans 2025 finishing position for this car will not find one in Toyota’s material.

What “future track testing” means
Toyota’s release states the goal in its own words:
“Through future track testing, the GR LH2 Racing Concept will support Toyota’s continuous development of hydrogen technology and infrastructure, as well as helping build relationships to expand the possibilities of hydrogen through the challenge of motorsports.” (Toyota GAZOO Racing, official release, June 11, 2025)
That is a development objective. The release does not report a completed test, a lap time, a range figure, or a quantified emissions result. It also does not mention a production plan or consumer availability.

How the concept fits Toyota’s hydrogen path
Toyota places the GR LH2 in a sequence of hydrogen projects it has run in motorsport:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Rookie Racing hydrogen-engine Corolla, Japan’s Super Taikyu series: first used gaseous hydrogen in 2021, then a liquid-hydrogen car from 2023.
- GR Yaris H2: demonstration runs at the 2022 Ypres Rally.
- Hydrogen Corolla: a demonstration lap at Le Mans in 2023.
- GR H2 Racing Concept (2023): the predecessor that the GR LH2 followed.
Read together, these are demonstrations and development steps. Toyota’s release does not present any of them as a series of championship results.
What came next: the TR LH2 Racing Prototype
Toyota Canada published a release dated June 10, 2026, saying Toyota Racing would conduct the first public demonstration drives of its liquid-hydrogen TR LH2 Racing Prototype at Le Mans. Toyota describes that car as based on the TR010 HYBRID chassis and as the next step after the GR LH2 reveal.

The Automobile Club de l’Ouest and MissionH24 run a separate hydrogen effort. Its January 2025 press kit, issued for the Hyvolution 2025 event, states a goal of creating a hydrogen category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in the FIA World Endurance Championship by 2028. That is a stated ambition, not a confirmed category or event. The press kit’s prototypes use a fuel-cell powertrain, and it says the H24EVO is planned to use liquid hydrogen. These details belong to MissionH24 and should not be attributed to Toyota’s concept.
| Factor | Toyota GR LH2 Racing Concept | MissionH24 program (ACO, 2025 press kit) |
|---|---|---|
| Energy conversion | Hydrogen engine plus hybrid system | Fuel-cell electric system |
| Fuel | Liquid hydrogen | Prototypes use a fuel-cell powertrain; H24EVO planned to use liquid hydrogen |
| Purpose | Test car for motorsport technology development | Collaborative program aiming at a hydrogen racing category |
| Development stage | Revealed June 11, 2025; future track testing stated | Program goal: hydrogen category by 2028 |
| Type of claim | Test car and stated development objective | Stated future category goal |
The “hydrogen engine” wording matters. Toyota’s term is an engine paired with a hybrid system, which is different from a fuel-cell stack that produces electricity from hydrogen. Toyota’s release does not describe the engine’s internal operation beyond that term, so readers should not assume details the company has not published.

Liquid hydrogen storage
The MissionH24 press kit describes the storage challenge that liquid hydrogen creates. Hydrogen is held at about −253°C in insulated tanks. The same document gives hydrogen’s mass-specific energy as three times that of gasoline, and notes that its energy per volume is low. These are general properties of hydrogen as stated in that document. They are not performance figures for the GR LH2.
What Toyota has not disclosed
- Engine power, vehicle weight, top speed, range, and fuel-tank capacity.
- Lap times or any track test results.
- Emissions figures, whether lifecycle or tailpipe.
- Retail price, production plans, or any consumer model.
Without these figures, the GR LH2 cannot be meaningfully compared with other hydrogen vehicles or with the GR010 on performance.
