Toyota’s U.S. recall 26V038 covers 161,268 potentially involved vehicles—rounded to 162,000—including certain 2024–2025 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid trucks equipped with the Panoramic View Monitor. A parking-assist ECU software fault can leave the display on the wrong camera view or black, so the rearview image may not appear when reversing. Toyota’s remedy is a free dealer software update. Check your truck’s VIN or license plate for open recalls before arranging service.
What Toyota recall 26V038 covers
The U.S. campaign covers certain 2024–2025 Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles equipped with the Panoramic View Monitor (PVM). Model year alone does not determine whether a specific truck is included; eligibility depends on its configuration and parking-assist ECU software. The campaign is NHTSA 26V038, with Toyota internal reference numbers 26TB02 / 26TA02. NHTSA’s recall acknowledgement and Part 573 report identify the U.S. campaign scope.
| Vehicles in the U.S. filing | Potentially involved |
|---|---|
| Tundra | 99,767 |
| Tundra Hybrid | 61,501 |
| Total | 161,268 |
These are potential population counts in NHTSA’s 2026 filing, not confirmed failures or the number of trucks still awaiting repair. The “162,000” headline figure is a rounding of the U.S. total.
What can go wrong with the display
The parking-assist ECU controls part of the PVM camera system. After a request to change camera views, a software fault may leave the system stuck on a view or display a black image. If the driver shifts into reverse while that happens, the rearview image may not appear. This is a camera-image availability issue, not a report of a physically damaged screen.

NHTSA says a missing rearview image reduces the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increases the risk of a backing collision, and can fail the rear-visibility requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111. The official filings reviewed do not establish a total number of crashes, injuries, or deaths attributable to this defect.
Toyota’s report traces its investigation from an initial field report in March 2025, through later reports and testing that reproduced camera-view freezing, to its determination on January 16, 2026 that the ECU software could cause the failure. The reported sequence of events during a view-change request could prevent PVM from changing views until an ignition cycle.

How to check whether your Tundra is included
- Find your VIN. Use the vehicle identification number from your truck or its paperwork. Toyota also offers a license-plate lookup.
- Search for open recalls. Enter the VIN or plate in Toyota’s recall lookup. The result applies to the vehicle searched; model year and trim alone cannot confirm coverage.
- Contact a Toyota dealer if 26V038 is open. Arrange the recall repair and confirm any service details with the dealer. Toyota says the specified safety-recall repair is performed at no charge.
A campaign announcement or a truck’s model year does not establish the current repair status of an individual vehicle. Use the lookup result for that VIN or plate.
The repair is a free parking-assist ECU software update
Toyota dealers will update the parking-assist ECU software free of charge, according to NHTSA’s acknowledgement. The scheduled owner-notification dates in the filing were March 10, 2026, with phased notices planned through March 24, 2026; those dates are not a substitute for checking whether a particular VIN still shows an open recall. Toyota’s report says owners who already paid to address this condition may seek reimbursement under Toyota’s General Reimbursement Plan.

How this differs from Toyota’s October 2025 recall
Do not confuse 26V038 with the separate NHTSA campaign 25V657. Both can be described in terms of a camera or display problem, but they involve different scopes and specified software repairs.
| Campaign | Scope described in the filing | Issue and remedy |
|---|---|---|
| 26V038, filed in 2026 | Certain 2024–2025 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles with PVM | Parking-assist ECU software may prevent the rearview image from appearing; dealer parking-assist ECU software update |
| 25V657, filed in October 2025 | Certain 2022–2025 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles, and 2023–2025 Sequoia Hybrid vehicles | A separate multimedia-display software problem; multimedia-display software update |
NHTSA’s 25V657 acknowledgement describes the earlier campaign. A shared reference to a rear camera or display does not mean the campaigns cover the same vehicles or require the same repair.
