Toyota’s new Land Cruiser FJ is a compact, five-seat member of the Land Cruiser family—and it is already on sale in Japan. Toyota began Japanese sales on May 14, 2026, followed by retail launches in the Philippines and Vietnam. Often informally called a “baby Land Cruiser,” it is not the FJ Cruiser reborn: its official name is Land Cruiser FJ, and its recipe pairs a smaller footprint with a ladder frame and selected off-road hardware.
Where can you buy the Land Cruiser FJ?
Availability is market-specific, not global. Toyota announced the model’s world premiere on October 21, 2025, initially planning a Japan launch around mid-2026. Japan sales began May 14, 2026. Toyota Motor Philippines announced retail sales on July 20, 2026, and Toyota Vietnam said it was available at dealers from July 28, 2026.

The FJ is a two-row, five-seat SUV built on a ladder frame. In Japan, Toyota lists it at 4,575 mm long, 1,855 mm wide, with a 2,580 mm wheelbase. Against the Japan-market Land Cruiser 250 Series, Toyota says the FJ is 350 mm shorter, 125 mm narrower, and has a wheelbase that is 270 mm shorter. Its listed minimum turning radius is 5.5 m.

Those figures explain the “baby” shorthand in practical terms: the FJ is designed to occupy less road and require less room to turn than the 250. It remains a separate Land Cruiser model, rather than a smaller version of the 250 with identical dimensions or specifications.
Japan-market specifications and price
Toyota’s May 2026 Japan launch release lists one grade, VX. Its specifications and price are specific to that market:

The cabin’s listed luggage capacity is 795 liters with the second row in use and 1,607 liters with the seats folded, measured by Toyota using the VDA method. These are Japan-market figures, not a guarantee that other markets will use the same specification or measurement.

Toyota Motor Philippines lists TX A/T and VX A/T versions. Both have a 2.7-liter 2TR-FE engine, a six-speed automatic, and part-time four-wheel drive. Toyota Philippines publishes 166 horsepower and 245 N·m for those versions; those output figures are not interchangeable with the Japan-market figures above.

The Philippines specification lists a 4,610 mm overall length, 1,855 mm width, and 2,580 mm wheelbase. TX and VX differ in height. Toyota lists four retail price entries—from ₱2,235,000 to ₱2,590,000—depending on version and paint option. Those are Philippine-market prices, not a global price range or a direct comparison with Japan’s single listed VX price.
Toyota Vietnam announced dealer availability from July 28, 2026, and said the vehicle is imported from Thailand. Its local price and equipment information are published for that market; they should not be inferred from Japanese or Philippine specifications.

What off-road hardware does Toyota highlight?
Toyota’s case for the FJ’s off-road credentials centers on its ladder frame, wheel articulation, and driver aids. The company says wheel articulation is equivalent to the 70 Series, and Japan’s listed equipment includes Downhill Assist Control, Hill Start Assist Control, and an electric rear differential lock.
The 70 Series comparison is specifically about wheel articulation. It does not establish that the FJ matches the 70 in every capability, nor is it an independent driving-test result. Toyota’s October 2025 world-premiere release also says, “Both front and rear corner bumpers are removable, segmented types, allowing only damaged parts to be replaced to improve repairability.” That describes Toyota’s design intent, not independently verified repair costs or outcomes.

Design, accessories, and the FJ name
Toyota describes the concept behind the FJ name as “Freedom & Joy.” The styling draws on Land Cruiser cues while making the body’s compact proportions part of the pitch. The segmented corner bumpers are one example of a functional design choice Toyota says is intended to make replacing damaged sections easier.
Japan-market accessories listed by Toyota include dealer-installed MOLLE panels and ARB-branded roof rack, skid plate, and rock rail options. Toyota says ARB parts are available only through select Toyota dealerships, and that accessory availability and content vary by region. Confirm market-specific fitment and availability before treating any accessory as compatible with a particular FJ.
How the FJ fits into the Land Cruiser family
Toyota reported about 12.4 million cumulative Land Cruiser sales across more than 190 countries and regions as of March 31, 2026. The company’s total includes Lexus LX and GX. The figure offers context for the nameplate’s global reach; it does not mean the FJ is sold in all those markets.

For buyers in confirmed launch markets, the FJ is the more compact Land Cruiser option in Toyota’s lineup, with a five-seat cabin and selected hardware intended for off-road use. Its specifications, prices, and accessories still need to be checked against the local-market version, and Toyota’s published claims about performance and durability should be read as manufacturer statements rather than independent test findings.
