The Toyota Camry and Honda Accord are posting strong U.S. sales growth in 2026, but the figures point to a comeback for these two sedans—not a takeover of the market. Through September, Car and Driver reported 260,684 Camrys sold, up 11.2% year over year, and 145,520 Accords, up 32.7%. The Accord grew faster by percentage; the Camry had the larger reported total. SUVs and trucks still account for the vast majority of U.S. new-vehicle sales.
How much have Camry and Accord sales grown?
Car and Driver’s October 5, 2026 report gives first-three-quarter U.S. sales of 260,684 for the Camry, an 11.2% increase year over year, and 145,520 for the Accord, up 32.7%. Those are model-level figures attributed to Car and Driver; Toyota’s October 1 sales release reports company-wide results rather than a Camry-specific Q3 total.
The percentages and volumes tell different parts of the story: the Accord’s rate of growth was nearly three times the Camry’s, while the Camry’s reported sales volume was substantially higher. Honda separately confirmed 32.7% year-to-date Accord growth in its October 1 release, providing a second source for the Accord’s direction.
What other 2026 sales figures add context?
Honda’s passenger cars and Accord
American Honda reported 16,507 Accords sold in September, up 27.7% from September 2025. Honda passenger-car sales were up 16.5% year to date and 20.9% in Q3. The company called Q3 its best quarter for passenger-car sales since 2020. Accord hybrid trims accounted for 44% of Q3 Accord sales mix; that figure applies to the Accord, not Honda’s entire lineup.

Toyota’s company-wide results
Toyota Motor North America reported 633,223 U.S. vehicle sales in Q3 2026, up 0.6%, and 363,367 electrified-vehicle sales, up 28.5%. These company totals are not Camry results. Toyota reported 2,518,071 U.S. vehicle sales for all of 2025, up 8.0%, with electrified vehicles making up 1,183,248 units, or 47.0% of total volume. That provides historical company-wide context, not evidence of a Camry-specific trend.
Does this mean sedans are coming back?
It supports a narrower conclusion: two prominent sedans are growing, and Honda’s passenger-car sales are also up. It does not show that sedans have overtaken SUVs or trucks, which remain the dominant vehicle types in U.S. new-car sales.

Affordability and fuel economy are plausible reasons for renewed interest, but the reported sales totals do not establish why buyers chose these cars. Sales data alone cannot separate retail demand from fleet purchases, inventory, incentives, model changes, or cross-shopping. Honda executive Lance Woelfer attributed the company’s performance to affordability, hybrid sales, and a balanced lineup; that is the automaker’s explanation, not an independent causal finding.

For a buyer comparing these cars, the following figures apply to specific 2026 trims, not every version of either model. Toyota’s comparison lists manufacturer starting MSRPs and EPA-estimated fuel economy; actual local prices, destination charges, incentives, and dealer offers can differ.

The listed comparison gives the Accord more cargo capacity and rear legroom, while the Camry LE Hybrid has the lower starting MSRP and higher estimated combined fuel economy. These are trim-specific manufacturer figures; confirm the exact configuration and current local pricing before buying.
Not every Accord is a hybrid
Honda lists six 2026 Accord trims: LX, SE, Sport Hybrid, EX-L Hybrid, Sport-L Hybrid, and Touring Hybrid. LX and SE use a 192-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter engine; the four higher trims use a 204-hp two-motor hybrid system. Honda lists the Accord as front-wheel drive. Comparing the two hybrid trims above therefore does not describe the entire Accord range.
