Separately, a November 19 report described Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda wearing Trump-Vance apparel and a red MAGA hat at a Fuji Speedway motorsports event. Toyota did not link the investment to that appearance, and its release does not say the investment was announced at a NASCAR race.
What is Toyota investing $912 million in?
Toyota Motor North America’s November 18, 2025 announcement covers five plants in five states. The company said the projects would add 252 jobs and increase capacity for hybrid-compatible engines, transaxles and related components, as well as add hybrid-electric Corolla production in Mississippi. The amounts, job figures and schedules below are announced plans, not confirmation that jobs have been filled or production has started.

The state figures and project descriptions come from Toyota Motor North America’s announcement. The release gives no Mississippi job count or production start date, so neither is included here as an estimate.
Will Toyota build hybrid Corollas in the United States?
Yes. Toyota said the Mississippi investment will add hybrid-electric Corolla production at its Blue Springs plant. The company called it the first U.S.-assembled electrified Corolla. That is a planned production change in the announcement; the release does not establish that production has already begun.

What did Akio Toyoda say at Fuji Speedway?
A November 19, 2025 report by Automotive News described Toyoda at a Fuji Speedway motorsports event in Trump-Vance apparel and a red MAGA hat. The report attributed these remarks to him before the race: “I’m not here to argue whether tariffs are good or bad. Every national leader wants to protect their own industry. We are exploring ways to make tariffs a winner for everyone. The people we want most to be winners are our customers.” These details and the quotation are attributed to that secondary report.
The investment announcement is a separate event. Toyota’s release does not mention Toyoda’s Fuji Speedway appearance, connect it to the five-plant spending, or characterize the investment as a political response. The available account describes a motorsports event at Fuji Speedway; it does not establish that Toyota announced the investment at NASCAR.

How does the announcement fit Toyota’s wider U.S. investment plan?
On November 13, 2025, Toyota announced an additional investment of up to $10 billion in U.S. operations over five years. Toyota described the November 18 plant projects as part of that plan. “Up to” sets a ceiling for the announced plan; it does not mean the full amount had already been spent. Toyota later announced a separate $1 billion investment in Kentucky and Indiana on March 24, 2026. That later announcement has a different scope and should not be added to or substituted for the $912 million five-plant total. Details are in Toyota’s March 2026 announcement.

Why is Toyota expanding hybrid capacity?
Toyota’s manufacturing executive Kevin Voelkel said in the November 2025 release: “Customers are embracing Toyota’s hybrid vehicles, and our U.S. manufacturing teams are gearing up to meet that growing demand.” Toyota’s company-reported calendar-year 2025 results, published in 2026, recorded 1,183,248 electrified vehicle sales, equal to 47.0 percent of its total sales volume. Those are Toyota-reported figures, not an independent market estimate; the company’s results are available in its 2025 U.S. sales release.
