RAC’s 2024/25 Risky Roads survey, released on 11 February 2025, ranks Baldivis Road and Kulija Road in Baldivis as the riskiest metropolitan intersection and Mitchell Freeway in West Perth as the riskiest metropolitan road. In regional Western Australia, the intersection of Albany Highway and South Coast Highway at the Chester Pass roundabout in Albany ranked first, and Great Northern Highway, covering Pithara to Wubin and Newman to Port Hedland, topped the regional roads list.
These lists rank locations that West Australians nominated as dangerous. They are not counts of crashes, so they show where people are concerned, not where the most collisions happen. The sections below set out the four full rankings, what nominators said about them, and how to read them.
What the survey measures
RAC asked Western Australians which locations they believed were most dangerous, then used the responses to advocate for road improvements. Each ranking is therefore an ordering of nominations and perceptions. It is not a statistical analysis of crash frequency, exposure-adjusted risk, or an engineering audit of any site.
Two survey figures describe the response. RAC received more than 18,000 nominations. Over 50 per cent of respondents said they had been involved in or witnessed a crash or near-miss at the location they nominated. Both figures come from RAC’s survey respondents; they do not describe the general population or traffic volumes at each site.

How the rankings have moved
RAC says Baldivis Road and Kulija Road rose from sixth place in 2022 to first in 2024/25. The full results PDF also marks Marmion Avenue and Seacrest Drive, and Anstey Road and Mandurah Road, as locations that appeared in the 2022 summary. According to the release, the Albany Highway and South Coast Highway regional intersection has topped its list for the third time running.

A Western Australian parliamentary answer dated 12 August 2025 (Question on Notice No. 230) reported nil serious crashes and nil fatal crashes at or near Baldivis Road and Kulija Road in 2024. That covers one location in one year. It does not explain why respondents nominated the site, and it does not invalidate the survey. It does show why a high survey rank and a crash record should be read separately.

How to use these lists
- Read a listed location as one that drew many nominations and specific complaints, not as a verified hazard ranking.
- Compare places within the same list. The four lists are separate and their ranks are not directly comparable with each other.
- For crash history at a specific site, check official crash records for that location and year rather than relying on the survey.
- This article covers the 2024/25 edition, released on 11 February 2025, as shown in RAC’s media release. Check RAC’s results page for any later edition, since its rankings will differ.
- At intersections nominators flagged, allow extra time for turning and crossing, and be prepared for confusing layouts. At highway sections flagged for no overtaking opportunities or narrow lanes, plan passing carefully.
