Those numbers are not a standardized head-to-head test, and a bigger volume does not guarantee a level floor. The shortlist below identifies the model year, folded rows or seating position, and important flat-floor qualifications so you can match the vehicle to what you need to carry.
How to compare SUVs with fold-flat seats
Maximum cargo volume is useful for comparing broad capacity, but it does not tell you whether a particular box, bike or sheet of plywood will fit. Published figures may use different measurement conventions, and a three-row SUV’s maximum usually assumes more seats folded than a two-row SUV’s. Compare cargo space both with seats folded and with the seats you need to keep occupied.
- Check the rows: A three-row SUV’s maximum may require folding both rear rows. If you need to carry passengers in the third row, the space behind that row matters more.
- Check whether “flat” is explicit: Fold-flat seats and a flat cargo floor are not interchangeable claims. Nissan, for example, ties a completely flat floor in the 2025 Kicks to a specific luggage-board position.
- Check the shape and load access: For a large or long item, verify floor length, width between wheel wells, hatch opening, floor transitions and the exact vehicle’s payload rating. Cubic feet alone cannot establish fit.
- Keep the configurations attached to the figures: Trim, drivetrain, model year, folded rows and measurement method can change what a number represents.
Top 10 SUVs with fold-flat seats and cargo space
The figures below come from manufacturer materials, not one independent measurement test. They are a practical shortlist, not a uniform ranking: the measurement conventions and vehicle configurations differ.

What stands out about each SUV’s folded-seat cargo area
Honda Pilot: the largest listed maximum, with a model-year caveat
Honda’s 2025 cargo guide lists up to 114.3 cubic feet with both the second and third rows folded flat. The feature description is from a separate model year: Honda’s 2026 specifications identify a 60/40-split, flat-folding third-row bench. Treat the volume and feature details as separate year-specific information rather than assuming the 2025 capacity applies unchanged to 2026.

Chevrolet Traverse: useful figures for more than one seating arrangement
The 2026 Traverse has published figures for three positions: 98 cubic feet maximum, 56.6 behind the second row and 22.9 behind the third. That makes the smaller behind-third-row space especially relevant for buyers who regularly carry passengers in all three rows. Chevrolet’s “best-in-class” wording is the manufacturer’s claim, not a result of a common measurement test across this list.
Toyota Grand Highlander and Kia Telluride: compare the named trims, not just the badges
Toyota’s 2025 comparison lists 97.5 cubic feet for the Grand Highlander LE FWD and 87.0 for the Telluride LX FWD, both with rear seats down. These are trim- and drivetrain-specific comparison figures; they should not be generalized to every version of either SUV.

Honda Passport: two useful cargo positions and a measurement note
For the 2026 Passport, Honda lists up to 83.8 cubic feet behind the first row and up to 44.0 behind the second. Honda’s press kit says the volume basis uses SAE J1100 and may additionally account for floor space between seating rows and underfloor storage. Honda also says the Passport can accommodate two full-size adult mountain bikes with their front wheels removed when its rear seats are folded flat. That is the manufacturer’s fit example, not a guarantee for every bike or accessory setup.
Hyundai Tucson: keep maximum and SAE volume separate
Hyundai’s 2025 overview gives up to 80.0 cubic feet as a maximum and a 74.5-cubic-foot SAE figure. It also lists variation by powertrain, so retain the measurement label and configuration when comparing a particular Tucson with another SUV.

Subaru Forester: an explicit flat-folding claim
Subaru lists up to 74.4 cubic feet for the 2026 Forester and specifically describes its rear seats as 60/40-split and flat-folding. Subaru says, “The Forester adapts to bring longer items by simply adjusting the 60/40-split flat-folding rear seats.” The claim establishes the seat-folding feature; it does not provide floor dimensions for every long item.
Toyota RAV4: check both seats-up and folded space
Toyota’s 2025 comparison gives the RAV4 LE 69.8 cubic feet with the rear seats folded and 37.6 with them up. Having both figures helps show the trade-off between cargo room and keeping the rear seats ready for passengers.

Chevrolet Equinox: a more compact option with both figures published
Chevrolet’s 2025 release lists 63.5 cubic feet with the rear seat folded and 29.8 behind the rear seat. As with the RAV4, the seats-up number can be more practical than the maximum if passengers will use the back seat.
Nissan Kicks: the clearest floor-position detail
Nissan lists up to 60 cubic feet with the seats lowered for the 2025 Kicks. Its press kit explains that the upper luggage-board position can make loading easier and, with the second row folded, creates a completely flat floor. Because that detail is tied to luggage-board position and grade/configuration, confirm that the vehicle you are considering has the relevant setup.

Choosing the right SUV for your cargo
If you need room behind the third row
Focus on the Traverse’s published 22.9 cubic feet behind its third row rather than its 98-cubic-foot maximum. The other listed maximums do not establish a directly comparable behind-third-row figure here, so check the exact trim’s specifications before deciding.
If you need the floor to be flat
Look for an explicit flat-folding or flat-floor claim, then inspect the actual cargo floor. Subaru calls the Forester’s rear seats flat-folding; Nissan specifies a completely flat floor only with the Kicks’ upper luggage-board position and second row folded. A seatback that folds down does not by itself establish a flush floor.
If you need to carry a particular object
Measure the object and compare those dimensions with the vehicle’s cargo-floor length, width between wheel wells and hatch opening for the configuration you intend to use. If the load is heavy, check payload limits for the exact vehicle as well. For sleep or camping use, verify seatback angle, floor discontinuities and the distance from front seats to tailgate; the published volumes here do not settle those dimensions for every model.
