This U.S.-focused 2025 shortlist compares sedans, coupes and sports cars—excluding SUVs—using starting price, fuel economy, driving character, comfort, technology and available resale evidence. The order is an editorial synthesis of Kelley Blue Book data and Car and Driver evaluations, not a ranking published by either source.
How this 2025 list defines value
Value means more than the lowest transaction price. A car can justify a higher price with stronger performance, a quieter cabin, better equipment or stronger expected resale. Actual costs vary with trim, destination charges, options, dealer pricing, taxes and location.

Kelley Blue Book says its luxury-midsize rankings consider fuel economy, car value, technology, features, cargo space, safety, available options and driving performance. Its ratings and prices are publisher-specific and can change. Resale awards are projections, not guarantees of what an individual car will be worth.

Model-by-model buying guidance
1. Lexus ES: the safest value-first sedan choice
Kelley Blue Book names the ES its top-rated model on the 2025 luxury-midsize list, with a 4.7/5 expert rating, and lists a $43,190 starting price. KBB also calls it the least expensive car on that list. That combination makes the ES the clearest choice when purchase price, comfort and broad usability matter more than sports-car responses.
2. BMW 5 Series: the efficiency-minded executive sedan
The 5 Series is the most fuel-efficient entry on KBB’s 2025 luxury-midsize list at 28 mpg combined. That is an efficiency comparison, not proof that it has the lowest total ownership cost. Buyers should still price insurance, financing, options and local fuel costs.
3. Acura TLX: attainable sport-sedan value
KBB lists the TLX at $46,595, 25 mpg combined and 4.3/5. KBB describes it as a “premium compact sport sedan,” although class labels differ among publishers. It suits shoppers who want a more driver-focused character without moving to the price of the German performance models.

4. Genesis G90: maximum serenity for the money
Car and Driver praises the G90’s hushed, silky ride, styling and materials. It also says the car is less sharp than German rivals and lacks wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Its verdict is that “The G90 aims for value while matching its rivals’ opulent cabins and smooth driving experiences.” Read that as a comfort-and-equipment argument, not a claim that it is the sportiest sedan.
5. BMW 7 Series: technology-heavy flagship luxury
Car and Driver highlights the 7 Series’ effortless performance, plush accommodation and technology. The trade-offs are a learning curve for its digital controls and a polarizing front-end design. It is most compelling for buyers who prioritize rear-seat comfort and modern electronic features over simplicity.
6. Chevrolet Corvette: performance bargain with a classification caveat
Kelley Blue Book ranks the Corvette first on its 2025 sports-car page, lists a $70,195 starting price and 19 mpg combined, and calls it a “performance bargain.” The Corvette is not universally considered a luxury car; it is included here because its performance-per-dollar case is unusually strong. KBB also places it among its 2025 top-ten vehicles for resale value.

Kelley Blue Book named Lexus its 2025 Best Resale Value: Luxury Brand. In the March 4, 2025 announcement, KBB senior manager Rheia Szymczyk said: “Toyota continues to ride the tide of its winning streak by taking home top honors for Best Resale Value: Brand, along with its sister company Lexus winning Best Resale Value: Luxury Brand.” The award recognizes the brand, not a guaranteed percentage for every Lexus model.

Those appearances indicate projected resale strength in KBB’s methodology; they do not establish that every trim will retain value or that any model is the best overall purchase. The G-Class is an SUV and is not part of this sedan-and-sports-car comparison.
