The so-called Frankencopter is a one-off static art build: Canadian builder Chuck Jurgen Teschke joined the front and body of a Volkswagen T1 bus with parts of an Airbus helicopter. It was not intended to fly, so its helicopter-like rear structure does not make it an aircraft. The project’s construction and flight intent are described in CarBuzz’s June 2025 report.
What is the VW Bus Frankencopter?
It is a custom hybrid artwork built around the recognizable front of a split-window Volkswagen T1 bus, combined with helicopter components. Early coverage says the project’s working name included “Hippie Heli”; “Frankencopter” became the name used more widely in later reporting. The builder is Canadian fabricator Chuck Jurgen Teschke, according to Auto Zeitung’s August 2026 account and the CarBuzz report.

Can it fly?
No. The Frankencopter is a static art build, not a flyable helicopter or a bus converted for road use. CarBuzz reported that it was never intended to fly and described its interior as hollow. Its helicopter parts contribute to the appearance and structure of the artwork; they are not evidence of a functioning aircraft.
How was the hybrid built?
CarBuzz’s June 2025 report describes a substantial amount of custom bodywork, based on its review of images and social posts. The following details are attributed to that account rather than presented as independently verified engineering specifications.
#1 Best Overall
- Model kit contain 173 pieces
- Model kits are designed for children aged 10 years and upwards
- After built it measures 18. 1 cm in length
- Bus front: The front frame retained the windshield panels and fog lights, while the headlight areas were cut away and replaced with lower visibility panels.
- Roof and doors: Glass cutouts were added to the roof, and custom doors were made to echo the original bus doors.
- Widened body: The body was widened to join the VW section with the helicopter rear structure.
- Interior: CarBuzz said images showed the build hollowed out, consistent with its role as a display piece rather than a functioning vehicle.
CarBuzz places the project’s social documentation from October 2024 onward and reports substantial structural joining by January 2025. That is the publication’s account of the sequence, not a separately verified build-log chronology. Auto Zeitung’s August 2026 report describes the finished piece as remaining grounded.

Its sale status is unclear. Auto Zeitung reported on August 20, 2026, that the finished piece was at a golf course near Edmonton and offered for sale at a converted equivalent of €48,000. Backfire News later reported on October 2, 2026, that Teschke’s finished pieces were not officially for sale, though he would consider a serious offer. Neither report provides a direct seller listing or confirmation, so the reported price should not be treated as a verified current asking price.
