Thinking of Tuning Your Lexus LC 500? Take Inspiration From This SEMA Build

Lexus’s 2016 SEMA LC 500 was a one-off with custom aero, suspension, brakes, wheels, race-focused interior and a reported 525-hp 5.6-liter V8. Here’s what it can inspire—and what it doesn’t prove about fitment today.

If you want a picture of how far an LC 500 can be customized, start with Lexus’s 2016 SEMA show car: a one-off build that combined aggressive bodywork, adjustable suspension, upgraded brakes, 22-inch wheels, a race-focused cabin and a heavily modified V8. It is inspiration, not a ready-made parts list. Lexus says the car began as a developmental prototype, and its release does not establish that those components are still sold, fit current cars or are suitable for street use.

The 2016 SEMA LC 500 was a complete one-off build

Created by Gordon Ting of Beyond Marketing with Evasive Motorsports and other partners, the racing-inspired LC 500 debuted at the 2016 SEMA Show. Lexus described it as a development-led project: the car was an early prototype, about a year before the LC reached the market, at a time when accessory and aftermarket support did not yet exist. That context helps explain why the build is best read as a vision of the car’s potential rather than evidence of a current, compatible package. Lexus’s 2016 SEMA announcement documents the named components and engine work.

“The LC 500 looks beautiful and has a fantastic foundation of performance and driving characteristics,” Ting said in the release. He described his aim as an aggressive-looking car that remained tough yet luxurious, with performance to match.

What changed on the SEMA car

Aero and exterior styling

The build wore an Artisan Spirit Custom Lexus LC Kit, including custom fender flares, a front diffuser, side skirts, a rear diffuser and a rear wing. Those parts gave the show car a wider, lower, more motorsport-inspired appearance. The release does not provide measured aerodynamic results, so the kit should be understood as documented show-car styling—not proof of added downforce or a particular handling improvement.

Suspension, wheels and brakes

Lexus listed KW Suspension with a hydraulic lift system and height-adjustable spring kit, 22-inch HRE P101 wheels in satin charcoal, Pirelli P Zero Nero tires and Brembo brakes with custom-colored calipers. This combination makes the car a useful prompt for thinking about stance and wheel design alongside ride height, tire choice and braking hardware. The announcement does not provide compatibility details for production model years, wheel-to-brake clearance, street-use approval or comparative test results.

A race-focused interior

Inside, the car used carbon-fiber Sparco race seats, an Evasive Motorsports GT3-spec interior and a safety cage. That is a substantial change in character, not simply a trim upgrade. A cage and race seats also raise practical questions about occupant access, restraint systems, airbag function and road legality; Lexus’s show-car release does not resolve those questions for a street-driven LC.

A custom 5.6-liter V8

Lexus reported that the production LC 500’s naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 made 471 hp and 398 lb-ft at the time. For the SEMA car, Club DSPORT increased displacement to 5.6 liters and reported 525 hp, using a larger cylinder bore, custom sleeves, pistons and connecting rods. Those are the figures Lexus gave for this specific build—not a typical tuning gain, a promise for another engine or an independently verified dyno comparison.

How the show car compares with a current factory LC 500

Lexus’s July 2025 U.S. announcement describes the 2026 LC 500 as a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 with 471 hp and 398 lb-ft of peak torque, paired with a 10-speed Direct-Shift automatic. Lexus lists 0–60 mph in 4.4 seconds and a manufacturer-estimated 24 mpg highway rating; these are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. See the 2026 U.S. model-year announcement for the full description.

Factory personalization is a separate route from copying aftermarket parts. The 2026 U.S. Inspiration Series coupe includes a carbon-fiber roof, 21-inch Matte Black forged alloy wheels, Smoke Matte Gray paint, a carbon-fiber fixed rear spoiler, front bumper canards and red brake calipers, among other equipment. Lexus also says its Bespoke Build program continues to offer customization of wheels, spoiler, roof and interior or exterior trim and colors. The Inspiration Series is a factory configuration, not an aftermarket kit; Lexus said 200 units were slated for North America.

Package details vary by market and model year. For example, Lexus Canada’s 2025 description lists Canadian Performance Package and Bespoke choices that include forged wheels, roof, seats and a rear wing. Those Canadian 2025 details and prices should not be assumed to apply to a U.S. 2026 car. Lexus Canada’s 2025 LC 500 release identifies its market-specific configuration.

Use the SEMA build as a planning guide, not a shopping list

The most useful takeaway is the way the build treats the car as a system. Styling, wheel and tire dimensions, suspension height, brakes and intended road use all interact. A dramatic wheel or body change can affect clearance and daily usability; the historic release does not establish what will fit a particular production LC or how any item performs on it.

  1. Set the goal. Decide whether the priority is appearance, road comfort, handling, track use or a mix. The SEMA car’s race-oriented cabin and extensive engine work point toward a different use case than a factory-personalized grand tourer.
  2. Identify the exact car. Confirm model year, coupe or convertible body style, market and existing equipment before looking at parts. Do not transfer a regional package description to a different market or year.
  3. Verify each component directly. Ask the manufacturer or seller to confirm current availability and vehicle-specific fitment. For wheels, confirm brake clearance and tire sizing; for suspension, clarify lift, ride-height range and compatibility; for aero, verify the exact body style and installation requirements.
  4. Check the practical consequences. Ask how a change affects ride, ground clearance, braking, tire wear, noise, warranty coverage and applicable road-use rules. The cited Lexus announcements do not answer those questions for aftermarket installations.
  5. Compare factory and aftermarket routes on the same objective. Factory options offer a model-year-specific configuration; aftermarket parts may allow a more individual direction but require product-by-product fitment and installation checks. The available descriptions do not provide independent head-to-head performance testing, so there is no evidence here to rank the two by measured gains.

What this inspiration does—and does not—establish

  • Established: Lexus documented a 2016 SEMA LC 500 with Artisan Spirit aero, KW suspension, HRE wheels, Pirelli tires, Brembo brakes, a bespoke race-focused interior and a reported 5.6-liter, 525-hp custom engine.
  • Not established: Whether those exact products remain available, fit any particular production year or body style, are street-legal, or would produce the same outcome on a customer car.
  • Current factory context: Lexus’s U.S. 2026 lineup includes factory styling and personalization choices, including forged wheels and Bespoke customization; those are distinct from the one-off SEMA modifications.
