Those are reported specifications, not independently verified test results or proof of a recognized speed record.
How fast was the police HUMMER?
The 2006 report gave the modified H2 a 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) acceleration time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h (about 155 mph). The available report extract does not provide an independent test, test conditions, or supporting builder specifications, so the figures should be attributed to the report rather than treated as confirmed measurements. New Atlas reported the vehicle and figures in July 2006.
Was it a H1 or a H2?
The vehicle in the headline report was a modified H2, not a H1 Alpha. The two models must not be conflated: HUMMER Japan lists the H1 Alpha with a 6,599 cc turbo-diesel V8 rated at 300 hp at 3,000 rpm, but those are H1 specifications and do not describe GeigerCars’ H2. The same page lists H1 Alpha weights of 3,563 kg for the open-top version and 3,684 kg for the wagon. HUMMER Japan’s specifications do not establish the powertrain or weight of the customized H2.
What does “world’s fastest police HUMMER” mean?
It is the wording used by the 2006 report, not a separately established HUMMER speed-record title. The available evidence does not identify an official H2-specific record entry or show that the reported top speed was measured under a sanctioned record procedure.

That distinction matters because “fastest police car” can refer to different things: a one-off customized vehicle, a police car in service, or a speed achieved under a formal land-speed record class. These categories are not interchangeable.
How does the claim compare with police-car records and tests?
| Vehicle or claim | Figure | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| GeigerCars-customized HUMMER H2 7.0 Kompressor, described in a 2006 report | 6.5 seconds from 0–100 km/h; 250 km/h electronically limited top speed | Figures reported for a customized H2; not independently verified here. New Atlas, July 2006. |
| Dubai Police Bugatti Veyron | 407 km/h (253 mph), achieved in April 2016 | Guinness World Records’ “fastest police car in service” entry. It is a different vehicle and record category, so it does not decide an H2-specific claim. Guinness World Records. |
| AM General Hummer HMCS in Michigan State Police testing | 85 mph top speed; 20.65 seconds from 0–60 mph | A 2003 patrol-vehicle test result for the HMCS, not the customized H2. It is historical context, not a direct performance comparison. National Institute of Justice / U.S. Department of Justice. |
Why isn’t a reported top speed automatically a record?
A top-speed specification or press description is not the same as a formally recognized land-speed record. The FIA organizes records by categories and classes; relevant straight-line attempts use the average of two runs in opposing directions. A vehicle claim needs to be assessed against the applicable class and procedure, not just compared by its headline number. The FIA explains its World Records framework.
