The Q70 name had replaced the M as Infiniti adopted its Q naming scheme; the car’s retirement came as the brand emphasized SUVs and crossovers and Q70 sales fell.
What was the Infiniti Q70?
Infiniti’s Q70 was a luxury midsize sedan sold in the United States for model years 2014 through 2019. It was not an entirely new nameplate in 2014: the Q70 was the continuation of the M sedan after Infiniti shifted its sedans and coupes to Q designations. Infiniti describes the 2014 Q70 as previously known as the M and says the M changed its name to Q70 before production ended.
That lineage explains the short run under the Q70 badge. The name covered the sedan’s final six model years, rather than the full history of the M line. Infiniti’s Q70 model page, its M history page and its global Q70 legacy page document the transition.
What engine did the 2019 Infiniti Q70 have?
The 2019 Q70’s V8 was a 5.6-liter engine with Variable Valve Event and Lift (VVEL) and direct injection. Infiniti listed different output for the standard-wheelbase Q70 and the longer Q70L, so the two should not be treated as having one identical factory rating.

Specifications and fuel-economy figures are from Infiniti’s 2019 Q70 brochure and Q70 model page. The mileage figures are historical manufacturer-published figures for the new vehicles, not estimates of what a used Q70 will achieve today.
How did the Q70 V8 models differ?
Standard-wheelbase Q70
The Q70 5.6 LUXE paired the V8 with either rear-wheel drive or Infiniti Intelligent All-Wheel Drive. Its listed rating was 420 hp and 417 lb-ft. Choose between the two drivetrains based on the configuration you are considering; both used a seven-speed automatic.

Long-wheelbase Q70L
The Q70L 5.6 LUXE added 5.6 inches of second-row legroom compared with the standard-wheelbase sedan. Infiniti listed its V8 at 416 hp and 414 lb-ft, slightly below the standard-wheelbase car’s rating. It, too, was offered with rear-wheel drive or Intelligent AWD and a seven-speed automatic. The longer body is the relevant distinction for shoppers prioritizing rear-seat space.
Other Q70 engine choices
The Q70 range also included non-V8 engine options, but the 2019 brochure’s V8 specifications apply specifically to the 5.6 LUXE trims. Confirm the engine and drivetrain from the individual car’s documentation or vehicle identification number rather than assuming every Q70 has a V8.

Was the Infiniti Q70 all-wheel drive?
It could be. Infiniti offered both V8 body styles with rear-wheel drive or Intelligent All-Wheel Drive. The Q70 was not exclusively an AWD car, and availability depended on the specific vehicle configuration. Check the listing and vehicle details to verify which drivetrain a used example has.
When was the Q70 discontinued, and why?
Infiniti discontinued the Q70 in 2019; it did not return for the 2020 model year. The company’s discontinued-model page frames the move as part of a shift toward SUVs and crossovers. Contemporary reporting also linked the sedan’s end to low sales and the broader market’s growing preference for luxury SUVs, but the available public account does not establish one quantified or exclusive reason for the decision.

Motor Authority reported that Infiniti recorded 2,196 Q70 sales in the first nine months of 2019, down from 3,476 in the same period of 2018. Those figures show a decline across those two comparable periods, not a complete annual sales history. Infiniti spokesman Kyle Bazemore told the publication the company would, “continue to focus on consumer demand with a line of sport utility vehicles, while also remaining committed to the passenger car market with the Q50 sports sedan and Q60 sports coupe.” Motor Authority’s October 25, 2019 report covers the sales comparison and Infiniti’s stated direction.

- Confirm the model and engine: The 5.6-liter V8 was a specific trim, not a description of every Q70.
- Verify the wheelbase: The Q70L provides 5.6 inches more second-row legroom, while its published V8 output differs slightly from the standard-wheelbase version.
- Check the drivetrain: Both rear-wheel-drive and Intelligent AWD versions existed; do not infer drivetrain from the model name alone.
- Match accessories to the car: Infiniti’s 2019 brochure lists all-season floor mats as a genuine accessory. Check the model year and whether the car is a Q70 or Q70L before buying mats or other fit-specific parts.
The manufacturer and contemporaneous discontinuation report establish the model’s specifications, history and sales context; they do not establish current used-car prices, reliability rankings, repair frequency or ownership costs. Those vary by individual vehicle and require separate, vehicle-specific evidence.
