Stellantis says its new 2.0-liter Hurricane 4 Turbo produces 324 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 332 lb-ft of torque from 3,000 to 4,500 rpm. The company also says it uses 10% less fuel to make 20% more power than its current 2.0-liter DOHC four-cylinder. That is a manufacturer comparison—not an EPA fuel-economy rating or an independently verified result.
What Stellantis announced
Stellantis announced the all-new Hurricane 4 Turbo on October 28, 2025. Its stated output is SAE-certified at 324 hp and 332 lb-ft. The engine is a turbocharged four-cylinder designed as a clean-sheet replacement or alternative to the company’s current 2.0-liter DOHC I-4.

The torque figures describe engine output, not a guarantee of identical acceleration in every vehicle. Transmission calibration, vehicle weight, gearing, drivetrain losses and traction all affect what a driver experiences.

What “more power with less fuel” actually establishes
Stellantis says the Hurricane 4 makes 20% more power while using 10% less fuel than its current 2.0-liter DOHC I-4. The statement is useful as a claim about the two engines’ development targets and the company’s internal comparison, but it does not establish a vehicle’s miles per gallon.

EPA economy and real-world consumption can only be judged with vehicle-specific ratings and comparable testing. The announcement also does not establish long-term durability, maintenance costs or owner satisfaction.
How the engine is designed to make its power efficiently
Turbulent jet ignition
Stellantis attributes the combustion strategy to turbulent jet ignition (TJI). In the company’s description, a spark plug ignites a small amount of fuel in a cup-like pre-chamber above each cylinder. Expanding gases then jet into the main combustion chamber, igniting the main air-fuel charge. Stellantis says the process encourages a faster, more complete burn.

Variable-geometry turbocharging
The engine uses a variable-geometry turbocharger, whose turbine flow can be adjusted across operating conditions. BorgWarner separately announced that it would supply a 50 mm variable turbine geometry turbocharger for the Hurricane 4. The component announcement confirms the supplier and size; it does not provide an independent fuel-economy result for the complete engine or vehicle.

Stellantis highlights a twin fuel system. The release does not provide enough operating detail to calculate a fuel-economy benefit or to conclude how the system behaves in every load and speed range, so its presence should be treated as a design feature rather than a quantified result.

Miller Cycle operation
The engine also uses Miller Cycle operation. Stellantis says the strategy closes the intake valves early to improve efficiency and reduce emissions. The stated benefit is a manufacturer explanation of the operating approach, not a published emissions or consumption measurement.
Torque delivery and what drivers may notice
Stellantis says 90% of the engine’s peak torque is available from 2,600 to 5,600 rpm, with the full 332 lb-ft available from 3,000 to 4,500 rpm. That broad stated band should support strong response across a wide portion of the rev range, although actual response depends on turbo control, transmission shifts and vehicle calibration.

Where the Hurricane 4 appears first
The first announced application is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Stellantis’ vehicle announcement gives that Grand Cherokee an estimated best-in-class driving range of 529 miles and a 6,200-pound towing figure. Those are vehicle-level manufacturer claims, not stand-alone tests of the engine.
Stellantis says the engine was designed with flexibility for conventional, hybrid and plug-in-hybrid powertrains. That indicates intended packaging and integration flexibility; it does not mean all three configurations are already available or confirms future fitment in particular models.

Fuel requirements
Stellantis says the 12:1 compression ratio can be used with regular 87-octane gasoline. This is manufacturer information about the engine’s stated fuel compatibility. Owners should follow the fuel requirement published for the specific vehicle and model-year configuration.
How to compare it with another engine
A fair comparison requires more than headline horsepower. Use the same vehicle type and model year wherever possible, then check:
- Rated horsepower and torque, including the rpm ranges where torque is available
- Required fuel grade
- EPA city, highway and combined ratings for the actual vehicle
- Towing rating and the configuration to which it applies
- Vehicle weight, transmission and drivetrain
- Independent acceleration, braking, road-noise and fuel-consumption testing
- Purchase price, maintenance requirements and warranty terms
The Hurricane 4 announcement supplies engine ratings and attributed design claims, but it does not supply the comparable EPA or independent-test data needed for a complete buying comparison.

At launch, the cited announcements do not establish real-world fuel economy, long-term reliability, durability under sustained towing, service costs or owner satisfaction. They also do not define every vehicle or powertrain configuration that may eventually use the engine. Those questions require vehicle-specific ratings, independent testing and operating history.
Bottom line
The Hurricane 4 is a new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that Stellantis rates at 324 hp and 332 lb-ft, with a broad torque band and combustion technologies intended to improve efficiency. Its first announced home is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee. “10% less fuel for 20% more power” is Stellantis’ comparison with its current 2.0-liter DOHC I-4—not proof of a particular EPA rating or real-world fuel-saving percentage.
