In iSeeCars’ 2026 ranking of turbocharged crossovers, the Honda CR-V is first, followed by the Subaru Outback and Toyota Highlander. For small and compact turbocharged SUVs, the CR-V also leads, with the Outback second and Mazda CX-5 third. These are composite scores—not a pure reliability ranking—and a model’s place cannot predict the condition of an individual vehicle.

iSeeCars’ rankings provide a useful shortlist, but the category matters: the crossover list and small/compact list do not have identical third-place models. The scores below are iSeeCars’ published scores for 2026, not percentages or estimates of repair frequency.

iSeeCars’ 2026 scores combine reliability measured through vehicle longevity with five-year depreciation or value retention and safety ratings. Its overall ranking methodology describes analysis of more than 330 million vehicles. The crossover page separately says its Best Car Rankings draw on more than 12 million cars and safety data from NHTSA and IIHS. That makes the scores useful for broad comparison, but they are not a direct measurement of expected repair bills, engine failure rates, or the odds that a particular used SUV will be trouble-free. An 8.5 is not 8.5 percent, and the gap between scores should not be treated as a quantified reliability gap.

How other reliability sources differ
Reliability rankings can disagree because they measure different things and draw on different populations. Consumer Reports says its brand rankings use member survey data; its broader Overall Score also includes track testing, owner satisfaction, safety features, and crash-test data. That Overall Score is not a reliability score. Consumer Reports’ 2023 Mazda CX-5 reliability page, for example, bases its reliability score on the latest subscriber survey of owners of that model year.
J.D. Power’s Vehicle Dependability Study uses its own study population and problem-count method. Its 2026 infotainment analysis attributed 24.2 problems per 100 vehicles collectively to Bluetooth, wireless charging, and OEM app connectivity issues. Because these sources do not measure the same outcome, avoid combining their scores into a homemade overall rank. Use each source for what it measures, and check the model year and configuration relevant to the vehicle you are considering.
What to check before choosing one
A nameplate-level ranking is only a starting point. The cited ranking pages do not establish the exact year, trim, engine, generation, or market mapping behind every entry, nor a universal ordering of every turbocharged version. Confirm the precise vehicle configuration before applying a ranking to it.
- Engine and trim: Verify that the specific model year and trim you are shopping has the turbo engine you want; equipment and powertrains can vary by market and year.
- Model year and generation: Look for reliability evidence specific to that year where available, rather than assuming a result for one year applies unchanged across generations.
- Maintenance history: For a used example, review service records and whether scheduled maintenance was performed on time.
- Current condition: Have the particular vehicle assessed rather than assuming a model-level score confirms its condition. A ranking does not audit an individual SUV.
Maintenance still matters
Follow the maintenance schedule for the exact vehicle. Mazda’s 2026 CX-5 owner’s manual recommends servicing at the specified time or mileage to support long-term reliability. It also says that when maintenance is performed outside an authorized Mazda dealer, fluids, parts, and materials must meet Mazda standards for durability and performance. Those instructions apply to that Mazda manual and should not be generalized as another automaker’s requirements.
