But the available evidence does not prove it was definitively the most reliable: the reliability signals are limited, use different methods, and are not specific long-term failure-rate comparisons of hybrid pickups.
Why the 2024 Tacoma Hybrid is the clearest match
Toyota introduced the redesigned 2024 Tacoma with an optional hybrid powertrain called i-FORCE MAX. The hybrid was offered in the Limited, TRD Off Road, TRD Pro, TRD Sport, and Trailhunter trims, according to Cars.com’s 2024 Tacoma information. In the U.S.-market material available for this model year, the Tacoma is the Japanese-brand pickup identified with a hybrid powertrain.
That makes it the practical answer to the title’s question, not a verified winner of a head-to-head reliability study. A model’s availability, a brand’s reputation, and a reliability ranking are different things; the evidence supports the first, but does not establish the last.
What the reliability evidence says
Consumer Reports: a favorable survey-based signal
Consumer Reports’ 2024 Tacoma page characterizes the truck as more reliable than other vehicles from the same model year, based on information from its subscriber survey about vehicle problems. This is a favorable signal for the model line, but it is not a guarantee, a hybrid-specific finding, or a published comparison of long-term failure rates among Japanese hybrid pickups.

- Highly-detailed die-cast precision model for collectible or play
- Detailed die-cast precision model
Survey results can also vary by edition. Consumer Reports’ later brand summary notes that Tacoma and Tundra were below average in a prior survey year, a reminder that reliability assessments are time- and survey-dependent rather than a permanent verdict on every model year or powertrain. See Consumer Reports’ brand reliability summary.
Cars.com: a very small owner-review sample
Cars.com reports a 3.0 out of 5 reliability rating for the Tacoma Hybrid, based on two consumer reviews. That score is an owner-rating snapshot with a very small sample, not a representative reliability survey or a robust estimate of expected repairs. It cautions against calling the hybrid proven, but does not establish that it is unreliable.

Ownership facts worth checking
Fuel economy
Cars.com lists EPA mileage ratings of up to 22 mpg city and 24 mpg highway for the 2024 Tacoma Hybrid. The page warns that actual mileage varies with configuration, options, conditions, driving habits, and maintenance. Treat these as the cited ratings, not a promise of what every trim or driver will achieve.
Hybrid battery warranty
Toyota’s 2024 Tacoma owner warranty material states that the hybrid battery warranty is 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first, subject to applicable warranty terms. Check the Toyota Owners warranty and manual resources for the applicable document and terms for a specific vehicle.

Safety is a separate question
The IIHS page for the 2024 Tacoma lists a Top Safety Pick. Its test results are not uniformly top-rated: the updated moderate-overlap front test is Marginal, while several other crash-test results are Good. Safety performance is useful to assess, but it does not demonstrate mechanical or hybrid-system reliability.

Because the available ratings do not settle long-term hybrid reliability, a buyer comparing used examples should focus on evidence for the exact truck and its configuration:

- Confirm the vehicle is an i-FORCE MAX hybrid; reliability information for non-hybrid Tacomas should not automatically be treated as hybrid-specific.
- Review maintenance and repair records, and have the truck inspected by a qualified technician familiar with the hybrid system.
- Check warranty status and the applicable coverage terms against the vehicle’s history and mileage.
- Compare reliability claims only when the model year, survey edition, sample, and powertrain are clear. A two-review owner score and a subscriber-survey result are not interchangeable measures.
