The Tesla Model Y was the reported leader in calendar-year 2025 China SUV retail sales, at 425,337 units. The ranking covers vehicles sold in China, not global sales or exports, and “best-selling” refers to unit volume rather than reliability, owner satisfaction or current availability.
Za Rulem attributes the figures to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). Because the primary CPCA table was not accessible, treat the numbers below as CPCA-attributed reporting rather than independently verified primary data.

All figures in the table are 2025 China SUV retail sales as attributed to CPCA in Za Rulem’s report. The accessible report names several leading models but does not provide the complete full-year ranking table, so it is not possible to responsibly fill in every rank or present this as a complete top ten.
What are the most popular Chinese-brand SUVs?
Among the Chinese-brand models named in the full-year report, Geely’s Xingyue L and Boyue L were the two highest-selling entries listed, ahead of BYD Song Plus, Yuan UP and Song Pro. The overall leader, Tesla Model Y, is not a Chinese-brand model; “most popular in China” and “most popular Chinese-brand SUV” therefore describe different rankings.

A separate Gasgoo report focuses on SUVs from Chinese brands and includes year-to-date figures such as BYD Yuan UP at 267,179 and BYD Song Pro DM at 232,548. Those numbers should not be compared directly with the table above: the report is a different ranking, and its note says its data include locally made cars, SUVs and MPVs. China recorded 11.878 million SUV retail sales in 2025, a reported 5% increase from 2024. Za Rulem attributes this market total to CPCA. The same report says 34 of the 35 models with more than 100,000 sales were identified in the cited count as either new-energy (15) or gasoline (19); those categories account for 34 models, not all 35. It describes gasoline-model sales as gradually declining but does not provide a quantified rate in the accessible passage.
