That figure is specific to this trim and wheel setup, and the ranking evidence is a mirror of Fueleconomy.gov rather than a live EPA listing. “Full-size” also needs a qualification: the formal EPA body-size class for the Air has not been confirmed here, so this answer uses the term in its ordinary sense of a large luxury sedan.
What is the most efficient full-size electric car?
Among the large luxury sedans represented in the available 2026 ranking, the Lucid Air Pure RWD on 19-inch wheels leads at 146 MPGe combined. The listing gives 149 MPGe city and 142 MPGe highway. The ranking source is a third-party mirror of Fueleconomy.gov’s Top Ten page; the captured evidence does not establish a formal EPA “full-size” category or independently confirm the live ranking. The precise answer is therefore the most efficient listed large-sedan candidate, not a verified winner in a regulatory full-size class.
The wheel choice changes the rating
The same captured ranking lists the 2026 Air Pure RWD with 20-inch wheels at 129 MPGe. That difference is why 146 MPGe should not be applied to every Air Pure configuration—or to the Air range as a whole. Check the exact trim and wheel option when comparing vehicles.
What does 146 MPGe mean?
MPGe compares electric-vehicle energy use with the energy in a gallon of gasoline; it is not miles per gallon of liquid fuel. The EPA uses 33.7 kWh as the energy equivalent of one gallon. A vehicle that travels 100 miles using that amount of electricity would rate 100 MPGe. The EPA says its EV MPGe values include charging losses and assume Level 2 AC charging, including losses in the charging cable or EVSE and the vehicle’s onboard charger. MPGe is an efficiency measure, while range is the estimated distance on a full charge. A car can have a strong MPGe rating without having the longest range, so compare both figures for the actual configuration you are considering.
How EPA range estimates relate to everyday driving
The EPA tests a fully charged vehicle on city and highway driving cycles using a laboratory dynamometer. Manufacturers can use a single-cycle or multi-cycle testing option. EPA then adjusts results for factors not represented directly in the lab procedure, including air conditioning, cold temperatures, and high-speed or aggressive driving. The combined label range weights adjusted city range at 55% and highway range at 45%.

These are standardized estimates, not guarantees for a particular trip. Temperature, HVAC use, speed, and driving style can change the range an individual driver gets. EPA describes its procedure as adjusting lab-derived ranges for real-world factors, not reproducing every driver’s conditions.
Why a separate EPA report gives a different number
EPA’s 2025 Automotive Trends Report names the Lucid Air Pure RWD as the highest vehicle in its preliminary model-year 2025 table, at 144.8 estimated real-world fuel economy. That is a different model year and metric from the 2026 label MPGe ranking above; the two figures should not be substituted for one another.

The report says model years 1975–2024 data are final and based on official submissions, while its model-year 2025 data are preliminary manufacturer information that is partly based on projected production. The report is useful context, but it is not a confirmation of the 2026 configuration-specific ranking.

- Combined MPGe: compare energy efficiency under the EPA label method, using the exact trim and wheel configuration.
- EPA range: compare estimated miles per charge separately from MPGe.
- Drive layout and wheels: verify whether the listing is for rear-wheel drive or another setup and which wheel size is fitted.
- Your driving conditions: treat label range as a standardized estimate; cold weather, climate control, speed, and driving style affect actual results.
- Meaning of “full-size”: distinguish an ordinary description of a large luxury sedan from a formal regulatory body-size class.
Lucid’s Air model page provides manufacturer information about the vehicle. For an efficiency ranking, however, use the EPA-listed configuration rather than extending one trim’s rating to the full model line.
