Among the 2024-model-year V8 coupes compared here, the Chevrolet Camaro LT1 coupe has the lowest listed starting MSRP: $38,800, versus $42,860 for the Ford Mustang GT Fastback. These are U.S. starting-price figures from Cars.com model pages, not current used-car prices or out-the-door quotes. The comparison is limited to those named coupe trims; it does not establish the cheapest V8 vehicle across every car and truck category.

What the lower starting price gets you

Chevrolet Camaro LT1 coupe

The LT1 pairs its listed $38,800 starting MSRP with a 455-hp, 6.2-liter V8. Cars.com lists 20 combined MPG for this trim, but a single fuel-economy figure should be checked against the specific transmission and configuration. The Camaro 1SS is another 455-hp V8 coupe in the same model-year lineup, listed at $42,300 starting MSRP.

Ford Mustang GT Fastback

The Mustang GT Fastback starts at a higher listed MSRP of $42,860 and uses a 480-hp, 5.0-liter V8. The Dark Horse raises the price and output substantially, with a listed $59,335 starting MSRP and 500 hp from a 5.0-liter V8. Those prices and specifications are listed on Cars.com’s 2024 Mustang page.

An older launch-era Ford Authority report gives the Mustang GT Fastback price as $41,495. That is a different source and pricing context from the Cars.com trim listing, so the table uses Cars.com consistently rather than combining figures from different snapshots. The launch-era report is available at Ford Authority’s 2024 Mustang pricing report.

Fuel economy depends on the exact V8 configuration

The U.S. Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency’s 2024 Fuel Economy Guide lists Camaro 6.2-liter V8 configurations at 16–20 combined MPG and Mustang 5.0-liter V8 configurations at 17–19 combined MPG. Those are ranges across configurations, not a promise that every trim or transmission gets the same result. For a buying decision, compare the exact engine, transmission and configuration in the guide rather than treating either model as having one universal MPG rating.

V8 pickups widen the field, but prices need a matched comparison

Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Chevrolet’s 2024 U.S. build page displays a 5.3-liter V8 Silverado 1500 configuration starting at $49,785. That is the listed starting MSRP for one selected build, not a universal Silverado V8 base price: trim, cab, bed and drivetrain affect the configuration and price. See Chevrolet’s 2024 Silverado 1500 build page.

Ford F-150

Ford’s 2024 F-150 technical specifications include a 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V8, and the XL specifications identify an XL regular-cab, 2WD configuration with that engine. The cited specifications do not provide a fully matched all-in base-price comparison for that V8 pickup, so it is an example of an available configuration rather than a price-ranked alternative. See Ford’s 2024 F-150 XL specifications.

How to use these prices when shopping

  • Compare like body styles and trims. The Camaro and Mustang figures above are coupe starting MSRPs; pickup prices depend on cab, bed, drivetrain and trim.
  • Match equipment and transmission. Engine output and fuel economy can vary by configuration, and the MPG ranges are not trim-specific substitutes for checking the exact vehicle.
  • Separate MSRP from the deal. A listed starting MSRP is a reference point. Options, fees, taxes, local discounts and a vehicle’s condition affect what a buyer actually pays.
  • Factor in how you will use it. Passenger space, cargo capacity and towing needs can make a coupe and a pickup poor substitutes even when both have V8 engines.
