IW388306: the Ceratanium Mercedes-F1 edition

How does the IWC tachymeter work?
The IWC tachymeter works by timing how long a moving object takes to cover a known distance. Start the chronograph at the beginning of the distance, stop it at the end, and read the central chronograph seconds hand against the tachymeter scale. For IWC’s stated example, the reference distance is one kilometre and the result is average speed in kilometres per hour.
For example, if a vehicle covers one kilometre in 30 seconds, the tachymeter indication corresponds to an average speed of 120 km/h. IWC says the chronograph’s vertical subdial arrangement places stopped minutes at 12 o’clock. IWC also says that, after assembly and regulation, movement functions are automatically tested over 12 days in its Final Inspection Movement cell. The 12-day statement describes IWC’s manufacturing inspection process; it is not an independent accuracy test of every individual watch.

Does the IWC Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS watch have a display caseback?

Both watches use a glossy black lacquer dial, recessed totalisers, applied blackened-nickel indices and numerals, and Super-LumiNova® filling. IWC says the totalisers are individually finished and printed before mounting, while the appliques are individually polished, fixed, and filled with luminous material.
