Yamaha’s 2026 WR125R is a broad U.S. rival to the Honda Trail125, but it is not a like-for-like substitute. The WR125R is taller and more dirt-oriented, with a 21-inch front wheel, longer-travel suspension and a manual clutch. Honda’s lower Trail125 uses a four-speed semi-automatic transmission and is lighter by each maker’s stated weight figure. The right choice depends more on riding style and fit than on their nearly identical engine displacement.

The specifications and Honda price below refer to the manufacturers’ 2026 U.S. model pages; availability and dealer pricing can vary.

How the 2026 Honda Trail125 and Yamaha WR125R compare

Both are fuel-injected, single-cylinder motorcycles in the 125cc class, but their equipment points to different priorities. Honda’s Trail125 is the lower, smaller-wheeled option; Yamaha’s WR125R has the taller stance and front-end setup associated with more dirt-focused riding. The comparison below uses manufacturer specifications, not independent testing.

Which one suits your riding?

Choose the Trail125 if low seat height and simple shifting matter most

At 31.5 inches, the Trail125 seat is 2.9 inches lower than the WR125R’s listed 34.4 inches. That difference can matter when stopping, maneuvering at low speed or mounting the motorcycle, though seat height alone does not determine how a bike fits an individual rider. Honda’s four-speed semi-automatic transmission also avoids a hand-operated clutch, a meaningful distinction for riders who prefer that arrangement.

Choose the WR125R if your priorities lean toward dirt roads and rougher terrain

Yamaha lists 8.5 inches of front suspension travel and a 21-inch front wheel, compared with Honda’s 4.3 inches and 17-inch front wheel. Those specifications indicate a more dirt-oriented setup; they do not, by themselves, establish how either motorcycle performs on a particular trail. The WR125R’s manual six-speed transmission with a wet multiplate clutch also suits riders who want conventional clutch operation and more gears to select.

Consider mass and fuel capacity in context

Honda lists the Trail125 at 256 pounds curb weight, while Yamaha lists the WR125R at 304 pounds wet weight. Because the manufacturers use different weight labels and do not establish identical definitions here, the 48-pound difference is a comparison of published figures, not proof of the exact difference under a common weighing method. The listed fuel capacities are 1.4 gallons for Honda and 2.1 gallons for Yamaha. Yamaha estimates 105 mpg for the WR125R; Honda’s cited specifications do not provide a matching MPG figure, so the figures do not establish a verified range comparison.

What to check before buying

  • Seat reach: Sit on each motorcycle if possible, and consider stopping and turning on uneven ground—not just the listed seat height.
  • Transmission preference: Decide whether you want Honda’s semi-automatic four-speed or Yamaha’s clutch-operated six-speed.
  • Where you ride: Compare your actual mix of pavement, maintained dirt roads and rougher surfaces against the wheel and suspension specifications.
  • Weight and maneuvering: Account for the manufacturers’ different weight labels, and assess how each bike feels at a standstill and at low speed.
  • Out-the-door cost: Honda’s published base MSRP and destination charge do not include every possible dealer or registration charge. Confirm Yamaha’s current MSRP, destination and local dealer fees before comparing totals.
  • Safety equipment: Yamaha advises riders to wear a helmet, eye protection, a riding jacket or long-sleeve shirt, long pants, gloves and boots. It also directs owners to read the owner’s manual and product warning labels before operation. See Yamaha’s WR125R product page.

Don’t confuse the WR125R with Yamaha’s off-road-only trail bike

Yamaha’s 2026 TT-R125LE is a separate off-road-only trail-bike model, not the street-use dual-sport comparison represented by the WR125R. The relevant distinction is the model’s intended use: shoppers comparing the Trail125 with a Yamaha that also fits a street-and-dirt role should focus on the WR125R. Yamaha lists the TT-R125LE separately on its 2026 TT-R125LE specifications page.
