When was the last Volvo V90 built?
Volvo confirmed that V90 production would end in September 2025, according to Autocar’s report published on 29 August 2025. The exact day the final car came off the line has not been stated in the sources cited here.
Volvo described the decision as being “in accordance” with its “global cycle plan.” That explains the company’s stated rationale, but does not establish that Volvo will never produce another estate.
Where is the final V90 now?
Volvo Car UK’s account says journalist Curtis Moldrich drove the last V90 off the Gothenburg production line and took it on a farewell journey to World of Volvo. This establishes the stated destination, not the car’s current location or whether visitors can see it.

Is the final V90 on display at World of Volvo?
That has not been confirmed. The former Volvo Museum in Arendal closed in December 2023. World of Volvo, in central Gothenburg, says parts of the former museum collection can be seen at its venue, where exhibitions change over time. Its information does not confirm that the final V90 is among the vehicles currently displayed. Check World of Volvo’s official site for current exhibition and visitor information before planning a visit.
How many Volvo V90s were made?
An exact, independently verified factory-build total was not established in the cited sources. A Volvo Owners’ Club table attributing its data to Volvo Car Corporation reports 140,446 V90s across model years 2016–2025. The table cautions that some figures may be doubtful and labels contemporary figures as retail sales by model year, so its total should not be treated as a confirmed count of cars built. It lists the V90 Cross Country separately.

The same table reports 5,833 V90s for model year 2025, with the same caveat. Neither figure identifies the final car’s individual build date, VIN, trim or engine.
Why did Volvo stop making the V90?
Volvo’s stated explanation was its global cycle plan. In the same Autocar report, then-CEO Jim Rowan discussed how SUVs’ ride height and different versions of models such as the XC60 can serve needs once associated with estates. The report also described the electric ES90’s role in replacing the S90, including its hatchback layout and split rear seats. These comments offer lineup context; they do not announce a V90 replacement or rule out a future Volvo estate.

What the end of V90 production means
The production run’s end is a milestone for this model, not proof that Volvo has abandoned estate cars permanently. The V90’s final destination was reported as World of Volvo, but its present display status remains unconfirmed.
