Yes—the Dodge Charger Daytona EV has a simulated exhaust sound, and two road-test reactions suggest it works better than its gimmicky premise might imply. MotorTrend called the Fratzonic system “surprisingly convincing,” while Car and Driver found it loud and entertaining in some modes but recognized that artificial sound will not appeal to everyone. That is a subjective impression, not evidence that the electric Charger sounds identical to a gasoline-powered one.
Does the Dodge Charger EV have a fake exhaust?
It does. Dodge calls the feature the Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust, but it does not carry engine gases: the Charger Daytona is an electric vehicle, and Fratzonic produces simulated vehicle sound. Dodge’s production information describes two passive radiators; the 2024 owner’s manual describes an amplifier and tuning chamber at the rear of the vehicle. Dodge’s 2024 Charger owner’s manual and Dodge’s product information provide those descriptions.
Car and Driver reported that the production car’s sound unit is rated at 600 watts and sits beneath the rear bumper, with sound also played through the cabin stereo speakers. That wattage is the outlet’s description, not an official Dodge specification. Car and Driver’s December 2024 road test is the source for that detail.
What does the Fratzonic sound like?
Reviewers describe a deliberately forceful, synthesized sound rather than a literal reproduction of a combustion engine. MotorTrend’s Aaron Gold and William Walker wrote in their February 7, 2025 first-test review that the “Fratzonic ‘exhaust’ sound system is surprisingly convincing.” They also called the effect a silly gimmick that nevertheless convinced them, and said its explosive startup sound made them grin. Those are the reviewers’ reactions, not acoustic measurements. Read MotorTrend’s first test.

Car and Driver likewise described the sound as loud and proud when wanted, while cautioning that artificial sound will not suit everyone. Its account suggests the appeal depends partly on the selected mode: the system can be a theatrical part of the drive rather than a subtle background effect.
Can you turn the fake exhaust off?
Yes. The 2024 owner’s manual says the exhaust sound and sound types can be enabled, disabled, and customized through Uconnect. Dodge’s 2024 launch announcement also identifies a Stealth sound mode. The exact menu labels and availability can vary by model year and configuration, so consult the manual for the specific Charger rather than assuming every year uses the same controls. Dodge’s March 2024 launch announcement describes the sound modes.

In Car and Driver’s 2024 road test, Auto, Eco, and Wet/Snow were quieter; Sport was louder; Track, Drag, and Drift were more aggressive; and Stealth was near-silent. These are the outlet’s reported impressions of the modes, not a universal volume measurement.
Is the Fratzonic system actually loud?
It can be conspicuous, particularly in the sportier settings, but the available sources do not establish a production-car decibel measurement. Dodge publicized a figure of 126 dB for the 2022 Charger Daytona SRT concept; that is not a verified sound level for the production Charger Daytona. Car and Driver noted uncertainty about whether the concept’s level would carry over. Dodge’s concept announcement concerns the concept, not a production measurement.

Does the sound match the Charger Daytona’s performance?
The sound is part of the car’s performance theater, but it should not be confused with a measure of power or speed. Dodge’s 2026 product information claims 670 horsepower, a 3.3-second 0–60 mph time, and an 11.5-second quarter-mile time for the Charger Daytona Scat Pack. Those are manufacturer performance claims for that model; they say nothing about sound quality or loudness. Dodge’s 2026 product information gives the figures.

Fratzonic is easiest to appreciate if you want the Charger Daytona to feel dramatic and audible, and you are comfortable with a sound created for an electric powertrain. The favorable MotorTrend reaction shows that the effect can exceed expectations; Car and Driver’s mixed framing is a useful reminder that its volume and artificial character are also the reasons some drivers may dislike it. Since Uconnect lets the driver disable or customize the sound, it is not an all-or-nothing feature.
