The Discontinued Dodge Hornet Can Be a Used-Car Bargain Around $25,000

The Dodge Hornet is discontinued after 2025, but its Tonale connection and confident handling make it worth a used-market look. A $25,000 price is a target, not a guaranteed deal.

The Dodge Hornet pairs shared engineering with the Alfa Romeo Tonale and, in reviewers’ judgment, unusually confident handling for a small crossover. With Dodge ending the model after 2025, a used Hornet may be worth a look around $25,000—but that figure is a shopping target, not a verified typical sale price. Check the exact trim, condition, mileage and local listings before treating one as a deal.

Is the Dodge Hornet discontinued?

Yes. Dodge confirmed the Hornet would not continue beyond the 2025 model year. MotorTrend reported that the company cited “shifts in the policy environment.” Tariffs have been discussed as context for the decision, but that causal link should be treated as interpretation rather than a confirmed explanation from Dodge.

The end of production makes the used market the practical place to shop. MotorTrend also reported that Dodge would honor warranty coverage and continue owner support, service and parts. That is useful reassurance, but buyers should confirm the remaining coverage and terms for a specific vehicle by VIN.

Is a used Hornet really a $25,000 bargain?

It can be a reasonable target, but $25,000 is not an established market-wide price or a confirmed offer. Edmunds’ page updated September 22, 2026 showed used Hornets starting at about $21,900 nationally. The same snapshot listed just 26 new 2025 Hornets nationwide, so inventory and asking prices can change quickly and vary by location. Those listings do not establish that a clean, low-mileage example is available near you for $25,000.

1969 Dodge Coronet Super Bee, Yellow With Black Hood - Motormax Premium American 73315 - 1/24 Scale Diecast Model Car for unisex-children
  • 1/24 scale diecast model measuring 8x3x3 inches
  • Openable doors, hood and detail interior, rubber tires
  • not a RC, not battery operated

For context, Edmunds listed the 2025 GT’s base MSRP at $29,995 before destination. That was a new-vehicle price, not a guide to today’s used value. When comparing a used listing with a $25,000 budget, weigh:

  • Trim and powertrain: a GT is a gas model; an R/T is a plug-in hybrid with different equipment and operating considerations.
  • Mileage, accident and service history, condition, and any needed repairs.
  • Dealer fees and the out-the-door total, not just the advertised price.
  • Local supply and comparable listings with similar model years, trims and mileage.

Historical new-car prices are not direct used-car comparisons. Cars.com reported that the 2024 Hornet R/T started at $42,530 and the Alfa Romeo Tonale Sprint at $44,590, while a base 2023 Hornet GT started at $32,330 including destination. Those were original prices for different model years and configurations, not current values. Cars.com’s pricing report is useful context, but trim and powertrain must match before comparing figures.

Does the Hornet handle like an Alfa Romeo?

The comparison has a real engineering basis: the Hornet is closely related to the Alfa Romeo Tonale, and reviewers have called it a near-clone. But “Alfa Romeo handling” is a subjective shorthand, not a measurable promise that the Hornet drives like every Alfa—especially not like a Giulia or Stelvio.

Car and Driver’s Hornet review describes the gas model’s handling as confident and nearly sporty, while finding some Mazda and Volkswagen rivals more athletic or satisfying. Its tested 2025 Hornet GT Plus reached 60 mph in 5.7 seconds; that result belongs to that specific test vehicle, not every trim. Car and Driver’s 2025 Tonale review notes that the Tonale shares its powertrain and many components with the Hornet, while criticizing its handling as lackluster. Shared hardware does not mean identical driving impressions—or a guarantee of a particular feel.

Which Hornet trim should you consider?

For 2025, the key distinction is between the gas GT models and the plug-in-hybrid R/T models. Edmunds’ 2025 specifications list all Hornet trims with all-wheel drive.

2025 trim Powertrain and output What to know
GT / GT Plus 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder; 268 hp and 295 lb-ft Gas-powered; Car and Driver pairs the 2.0-liter engine with a nine-speed automatic. Its 5.7-second 0–60-mph result was for a tested GT Plus.
R/T / R/T Plus 1.3-liter turbo engine and electric motor; 288 hp and 383 lb-ft Plug-in hybrid. Edmunds lists up to 33 miles of electric-only range for the 2025 R/T; actual use depends on conditions and charging.

The GT may suit buyers who want a conventional gas crossover with lively performance. The R/T adds plug-in capability, but buyers should consider charging access, electric driving needs and the added hybrid components rather than treating its output or range as a blanket advantage. Compare the specific cars’ equipment and condition; trim names alone do not settle value.

What are the main ownership trade-offs?

Space and everyday practicality

Reviewers note a tight rear seat and limited cargo room compared with rivals. If the Hornet’s handling is the draw, sit in the back and test your usual cargo before buying; a test drive alone will not reveal whether the cabin fits your routine.

Reliability evidence and inspection

Edmunds’ owner-review summary is mixed: some owners praise quickness and driving feel, while others report battery trouble, warning lights and time in the shop. Those are anecdotes from consumer reviews, not a representative reliability rate, so they cannot establish how likely a particular Hornet is to have a problem. Arrange an independent inspection and review service records and diagnostic history. Check open recalls by VIN before completing the purchase.

Warranty and support

MotorTrend reported an eight-year/80,000-mile warranty for hybrid components and an eight-year/100,000-mile battery warranty on the R/T plug-in hybrid. Eligibility, start date, exclusions and remaining coverage depend on the vehicle and applicable terms; verify them by VIN with the manufacturer or dealer. The report that support and parts will continue is not a substitute for checking local service availability.

How to decide whether one is right for you

  1. Choose the powertrain first. Decide whether you want the gas GT or the plug-in-hybrid R/T, and whether you can make meaningful use of charging.
  2. Compare like with like. Look at local examples of the same model year and trim, with similar mileage, condition and equipment; account for fees in the total price.
  3. Check the vehicle’s history. Review records, diagnostic findings, recall status and remaining warranty by VIN, then have the car inspected independently.
  4. Test the compromises. Drive on roads you use, try parking and maneuvering, and assess rear-seat and cargo room with your actual passengers or gear.
  5. Compare alternatives on your priorities. Evaluate handling, cabin and cargo space, fuel or electric use, equipment, warranty and ownership support rather than relying on the Alfa connection or a headline price alone.
