In Electrek’s January 2025 comparison, the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 had the lowest effective monthly payment: $190 over 24 months, with $999 due at signing. Its advertised payment was $149 a month. These are historical offers, not current quotes; lease availability and terms vary by location.
Which EV had the best lease deal in January 2025?
“Best” depends on how you compare offers. Using the effective monthly payment shown in Electrek’s table—the advertised monthly payment adjusted to include the stated amount due at signing—the ID.4 ranked lowest at $190 a month. The table was reported by Electrek on January 25, 2025, updated January 24, and based on CarsDirect data. It is a selected roundup, not a nationwide, independently verified ranking. Read Electrek’s January 2025 roundup.
The advertised payment alone can give a different impression. The ID.4 and 2025 Kia Niro EV were both listed at $149 a month, but the ID.4’s $999 due at signing produced a reported effective payment of $190, while the Niro EV’s $3,999 due at signing produced $315.

Why the lowest advertised payment may not be the cheapest lease
Due-at-signing amounts change the economics. A small monthly figure paired with a large upfront payment can cost more across the lease than a higher monthly figure with little due at signing. The effective monthly figures above help expose that difference, but they are not a substitute for comparing the full written lease offer.

Lease terms also differ: the listed offers run from 24 to 42 months. Comparing monthly figures without accounting for term length, mileage allowance, and all charges can make unlike offers look comparable when they are not.
Did EV lease deals vary by state?
Yes. Electrek said the $229-a-month 2024 Honda Prologue offer applied in California and other ZEV states, and reported Prologue leases starting at $249 a month elsewhere. The roundup does not establish that every listed offer was available in every state, or provide a complete state-by-state eligibility map.

- WORKS WITH EVERY NON-TESLA EV: Standard J1772 connector plugs straight into Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Rivian, Lucid and every other EV or plug-in hybrid sold with a J1772 port - no adapter needed. Tesla drivers can charge too, using the J1772 adapter that comes with the car.
- PLUG IN, NO HARDWIRING: Level 2 charger delivers up to 40A to fully charge most EVs overnight. Plugs into a 240V, 4-prong NEMA 14-50 outlet (the RV/range type - NOT a dryer outlet) on a dedicated 50A circuit. The extra-long 25 ft cable easily reaches across a garage or driveway. Before ordering, check your car's port type and that you have the right outlet.
- CONTROL & SAVE FROM YOUR PHONE: A stronger built-in antenna keeps the charger online even in a garage or basement. Use the free app to start/stop charging, set speed (6-40A), get reminders, and track energy use and cost. Schedule off-peak overnight charging to cut your electric bill. Requires 2.4 GHz WiFi.
- SAFETY-CERTIFIED & WEATHERPROOF: Independently tested and certified (UL, ETL, FCC, Energy Star). A fully sealed IP66 / NEMA 4 housing stands up to rain, snow, heat and dust indoors or out, and internal steel shielding protects the electronics for years of reliable use.
- GLOW-IN-THE-DARK HOLSTER: The included high-visibility holster glows in the dark so you can find and dock the plug easily at night. Holds the connector securely when not in use.

- HARDWIRED - PROFESSIONAL INSTALL: This Level 2 charger is hardwired (not plug-in), so a licensed electrician installs it per National Electrical Code. It delivers up to 48A on a dedicated 60A, 240V circuit - enough to charge most EVs fully overnight. Want more speed? You can set DIP switches 4 and 5 to unlock 50A on a dedicated 70A circuit. Before ordering, check your car's port type and that your electrical panel can support the circuit.
- CONTROL FROM YOUR PHONE: A stronger built-in antenna keeps the charger online even in a garage or basement. Use the free app to start and stop charging, set the charging speed (6-48A), get reminders, and track how much energy and money each charge uses. Requires a 2.4 GHz home WiFi network.

Electrek’s roundup also mentioned a historical Hyundai offer for 2025 IONIQ 5 buyers or lessees: a free ChargePoint Level 2 home charger, or a $400 charging credit for those who already had a charger. That reference does not establish that the promotion remains available.
How to read this January 2025 snapshot
The article’s historical context matters: Electrek, citing Cox Automotive, reported an expectation that EVs would make up 7.5% of U.S. auto sales in 2024 and said EVs reached 8.5% market share in November 2024, with more than 116,000 units sold. Those are figures reported at the time, not current market measures. They help explain the competitive backdrop but do not establish that a particular lease was the best option for an individual driver.
