This is a category-winner guide, not a universal 1-to-5 ranking. A 21-foot camper van, a 36-foot fifth wheel, and a roughly $470,000 diesel motorhome serve completely different buyers. The prices below are historical 2022 launch or list-price references—not what these RVs necessarily cost today. As of August 10, 2026, a 2022 RV is generally a used-market purchase, so condition, service records, recalls, tires, water damage, and the buyer’s tow vehicle matter as much as the original brochure.
The quick verdict
These recommendations cover the main U.S. RV buying decisions: driving a compact motorhome, owning a van-sized camper, towing a small adventure trailer, towing a large residential fifth wheel, or traveling in a premium motor coach.
| Category | 2022 model | Historical price reference | Key dimensions or weight | Fresh-water capacity | Best for | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Best adventure-oriented RV | Winnebago EKKO 22A | $171,845 starting price on Winnebago’s archived page; other period references were about $164,000 and $163,662 | 23 ft; 11,000-lb GVWR | 50 gal | Couples and small families who want AWD, gear storage, and limited off-grid capability | Expensive for its size; inspect recalls and water-prone systems carefully |
| Best camper van | Winnebago Solis 59PX | $135,682 suggested list price | 21 ft; 9,350-lb GVWR | 20 gal | Weekend travel, flexible family use, and buyers who need a maneuverable van | Four can sleep inside, but four adults will find extended stays tight |
| Best compact family trailer | Taxa Outdoors Mantis Overland | $57,874 and up in Outside’s May 2022 review | Exact loaded weight varies by configuration and equipment | Verify the individual unit and tow specifications | Outdoor-focused families and gear-heavy travelers | Less residential and more expedition-oriented than a conventional trailer |
| Best residential fifth wheel | Grand Design Reflection 341RDS | About $93,123 to $93,723 in period listings | About 36.9 ft; 10,910-lb dry weight; 13,995-lb GVWR; approximately 2,042-lb pin weight | 74 gal | Couples or families wanting a large living room and extended-stay comfort | Needs a properly matched heavy-duty pickup and a large campsite |
| Best compact luxury Class A | Newmar New Aire 3543 | About $470,000 starting MSRP in Winnebago investor material | 35 ft 10 in; 450-hp diesel; approximately 4,250-lb carrying capacity in the brochure configuration | 105 gal | Luxury touring couples who want a shorter diesel coach | High purchase, service, tire, insurance, and storage costs |
Historical specifications can vary with floor plan, chassis, options, production changes, and how a source defines dry weight or carrying capacity. Confirm the original build sheet and the VIN-specific equipment before treating a brochure number as fact.

How this list defines best
The editorial standard here is usefulness for a clearly defined buyer: design quality, livability, mobility, equipment, published specifications, contemporary expert coverage, and ownership practicality. It is not a reliability ranking, and it is not based on hands-on comparative testing.
That distinction matters because most popular is a different claim. RV Trader’s 2022 marketplace list was based on shopper searches and named the Keystone Sprinter, Newmar Dutch Star, Grand Design Reflection, Winnebago Travato, and Grand Design Imagine. Search interest is useful market context, but it does not establish comparative quality, safety, reliability, or value. Similarly, the 2022 RV Magazine Readers’ Choice Awards primarily recognized brands by category: Tiffin for Class A, Winnebago for Class B, Jayco for Class C, Airstream for small camping trailers, Grand Design for travel trailers and fifth wheels, and Lance for truck campers.
The U.S. market was large enough to provide plenty of examples to choose from. The RV Industry Association reported 493,268 total RV shipments in 2022, including 434,858 towable RVs and 58,410 motorhomes. That tells us about market scale, not whether one manufacturer built a better RV than another.
First, understand the RV types
The word RV covers several fundamentally different products. The RV Industry Association’s terminology describes them this way:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Type A/Class A motorhome: built on a bare motor-vehicle chassis, generally with a flat-front coach body.
- Type B/Class B motorhome: built on a van-type automotive chassis.
- Type C/Class C motorhome: built on a cutaway truck chassis, commonly with an over-cab sleeping area.
- Travel trailer: a rigid-sided towable RV connected behind the tow vehicle.
- Fifth wheel: a towable RV connected through a hitch mounted above or forward of the tow vehicle’s rear axle.
- Truck camper: a living unit designed to sit in a pickup bed.
A motorhome lets you drive the living space but leaves you with one vehicle at camp. A towable lets you unhitch and use the tow vehicle independently, but adds trailer-handling, hitching, and weight-matching responsibilities. That basic choice should come before comparing countertops, televisions, or exterior graphics.
1. Winnebago EKKO 22A: best overall adventure-oriented RV
The 2022 Winnebago EKKO 22A is the most versatile pick for buyers who want more interior and storage space than a camper van without moving into a full-size Class C. Winnebago positioned the EKKO as a combination of camper-van efficiency, Class C capacity, and all-wheel-drive capability.
Important 2022 specifications
- Approximately 23 ft long, 7 ft 2.5 in wide, and 10 ft 6 in tall.
- Sleeps up to four.
- 11,000-lb GVWR and 15,000-lb GCWR.
- 50-gal fresh-water tank and 51-gal gray-water tank.
- 40-lb LP capacity and 31-gal fuel tank.
- Approximately 65.3 cu. ft. of exterior storage, depending on configuration.
- 5-gal cassette toilet.
- AWD, with equipment such as lithium-battery, solar, pop-top, and exterior-kitchen configurations varying by build.
Winnebago’s archived page lists a $171,845 starting price. A Winnebago investor presentation listed an approximate $164,000 starting MSRP, while J.D. Power lists a 2022 suggested list price of $163,662. Those figures conflict because they may reflect different publication dates, equipment assumptions, or price revisions; they should be treated as attributed historical references rather than a single definitive 2022 price. See the archived EKKO page, Winnebago investor material, and J.D. Power valuation page.
Why it stands out
The EKKO’s appeal is the balance between road manners and camping capability. At about 23 ft, it is less intimidating than a conventional Class C, while the coach body provides more usable living space than most van conversions. AWD is helpful on wet roads, snow, gravel, and rough campsite approaches. The large tanks and exterior gear storage also make it attractive to cyclists, paddlers, climbers, and overland-style travelers.
Its equipment supports limited off-grid travel better than many compact motorhomes. That does not mean unlimited boondocking: water, battery capacity, waste capacity, weather, heating, cooling, and generator fuel remain constraints. A solar array can replenish batteries, but it cannot make high-draw air-conditioning or electric appliances run indefinitely.
Who should buy it—and who should avoid it
Buy it if: you want one compact vehicle for road trips, active outdoor recreation, occasional off-grid camping, and four-person sleeping capacity in a pinch.
Avoid it if: you primarily want a roomy family interior, a permanent bedroom, low purchase cost, or serious off-road performance. AWD improves traction; it does not make the EKKO a purpose-built rock-crawling or high-clearance off-road vehicle. Four-person sleeping capacity is a maximum layout claim, not a promise of four-person long-term comfort.

- rv toilet brush: Engineered specifically for RVs, this brush features a silicone head that gently cleans without damaging the toilet bowl or seals, a must for traditional toilet brushes.
- Compact Wall-Mounted Toilet Brush: With its space-saving design, this brush is easy to stow away discreetly, perfect for the limited space in RVs.
- silicone toilet brush: This brush is designed for thorough cleaning of the toilet bowl without causing any harm to the porcelain or seals. The drip-free toilet brush holder is crafted to collect water from the brush, preventing any mess on your RV's floor.
- Wall-Mounted Toilet Brush for RV Travel: The brush head is conveniently attachable to the bathroom wall, ensuring that there's no rolling around during your trips. With this setup, you can travel with peace of mind, knowing your toilet brush is securely in place.
Used-EKKO inspection and recall checks
Check that the actual VIN and build include the equipment you expect. Battery, solar, pop-top, exterior-kitchen, and storage configurations can differ. Inspect roof and wall seals, plumbing, cassette-toilet operation, electrical components near the bathroom, and the hitch labeling.
Certain 2022 EKKO motorhomes were covered by NHTSA recall 21V-942, in which shower and lavatory sink drainage could leak into nearby electrical components and increase fire risk; the remedy included additional sealing. NHTSA recall 23V-637 involved incorrect hitch labels that could contribute to overloading and loss of control. Verify recall completion by VIN, not merely by model year.
2. Winnebago Solis 59PX: best camper van
The 2022 Winnebago Solis 59PX is the best fit for a shopper who wants a van-sized vehicle with real camping systems, a pop-top, and flexible sleeping arrangements. It uses the Ram ProMaster chassis and remains easier to drive, park, and store than a larger motorhome.
Important 2022 specifications
- 21 ft long, 6 ft 9 in wide, and 9 ft 5 in tall.
- 6 ft 3 in interior height.
- Sleeps up to four.
- 9,350-lb GVWR and 11,500-lb GCWR.
- 20-gal fresh-water and 20-gal gray-water tanks.
- 24-gal fuel tank and 5-gal cassette toilet.
- 220-watt flexible solar panel with the pop-top.
- 2,800-watt Cummins Onan gas generator.
- Pop-top sleeping area, wet bath, kitchen, Murphy-style sleeping arrangement, and rear gear space with L-track storage.
Winnebago and J.D. Power list the 2022 Solis 59PX at approximately $135,682 suggested list price. The archived Winnebago specifications and the J.D. Power specifications page are useful starting points, but a used buyer should confirm the actual equipment on the vehicle.
Why it stands out
The 59PX gets unusually broad use from a short van. The pop-top adds sleeping space without adding road length, while the rear gear area can accommodate outdoor equipment. A wet bath, kitchen, solar panel, and generator mean the van is not limited to campground hookups. It can work for weekend trips, surf or bike trips, occasional family travel, and discreet travel where a larger RV would be cumbersome.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Camping World’s contemporary 2022 motorhome coverage highlighted the ProMaster chassis, pop-top, Murphy-style bed, storage, kitchen, and generator. That retailer coverage is useful for identifying features, but it is not independent reliability testing.
Trade-offs
The 20-gal fresh and gray tanks are compact. Long stays away from hookups require careful water use, and the cassette toilet must be emptied according to the owner’s instructions rather than connected to a conventional black-tank service routine. Four people can sleep in the van, but four adults will not have generous personal space during a long trip.
The generator and solar panel expand autonomy but do not remove energy limits. Inspect the pop-top fabric, seams, seals, hinges, latches, and evidence of water intrusion. Test the generator under a meaningful electrical load, not merely by starting it for a few seconds. Also check whether later owners changed the battery, inverter, solar controller, or plumbing.
Best for: couples, active weekend travelers, and small families who prioritize mobility and flexible sleeping over interior room.

3. Taxa Outdoors Mantis Overland: best compact family and adventure trailer
The Taxa Outdoors Mantis Overland is the choice for buyers who want a towable that is compact and equipment-friendly rather than residential. It is especially appealing to families who camp actively and need flexible space for bikes, gear, and sleeping arrangements.

What the 2022 version offered
In its May 2022 review, Outside listed the Mantis Overland at $57,874 and up. The review described sleeping for four adults, an optional hammock and rooftop tent, a pop-up roof, convertible rear dinette, collapsible bunks, bike-storage flexibility, and a fold-away wet bath.
The pop-up roof gives occupants standing room when camped while keeping the trailer more compact and aerodynamic for travel. The convertible interior can change between sleeping, dining, and gear-hauling duties. That is a meaningful advantage for an outdoor family that may carry bikes or other bulky equipment.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWho it suits
Buy it if: you want a self-contained trailer for outdoor-focused travel, need sleeping capacity for a family, and value campsite flexibility over a permanent bedroom and large living room.
Avoid it if: you want residential appliances, multiple slide-outs, a spacious lounge, a large permanent bathroom, or a luxury extended-stay layout.
The Mantis’ sleeping capacity should be treated as a maximum configuration. Optional sleeping components, children’s sleeping spaces, and the need to deploy beds can change how practical the layout is for a particular family. Inspect the pop-up roof, canvas, seals, wet-bath hardware, bunks, hinges, and any rooftop-tent or rack equipment for leaks and damage.
Towing considerations
The Mantis is easier to tow than a large family trailer, but compact does not mean that every SUV or crossover is automatically suitable. Obtain the actual trailer’s loaded weight, tongue weight, tire ratings, brake requirements, and hitch specifications. Compare those numbers with the tow vehicle’s door-jamb payload sticker and axle ratings—not only its advertised maximum tow rating.

The 2022 Grand Design Reflection 341RDS is the best choice here for buyers who want a trailer that feels more like a stationary home once the slides are deployed. Its rear living area, triple slides, opposing sofas, theater seating, kitchen island, and residential-style appliances are designed for extended stays rather than quick overnight stops.
Important 2022 specifications
- Approximately 36.9 ft long.
- About 10,910-lb dry weight and 13,995-lb GVWR.
- Approximately 3,085 lb of listed payload.
- Approximately 2,042-lb pin weight in the cited configuration.
- Three slide-outs.
- Sleeps up to six.
- 74-gal fresh-water, 87-gal gray-water, and 47-gal black-water tanks.
- Rear living and entertainment area with dual tri-fold sofas, theater seating, fireplace, and large television.
- Front bedroom and kitchen island.
Period listings put MSRP at approximately $93,123 from RVUSA and $93,723 from J.D. Power. See the RVUSA listing and J.D. Power page. The difference illustrates why options, destination charges, production revisions, dealer fees, and source dates matter.
Why it stands out
The 341RDS is a strong extended-stay floor plan. Once parked, the rear living room provides separate seating for relaxing or hosting, while the kitchen and large holding tanks are better suited to longer trips than a compact trailer. Grand Design’s Reflection line also won gold in RV Magazine’s 2022 fifth-wheel Readers’ Choice category, although that was brand-level recognition rather than proof that every 341RDS is trouble-free.
The critical tow-vehicle issue
The approximately 2,042-lb pin weight is a payload problem as much as a towing problem. It can consume much of a pickup’s available payload before adding passengers, fuel, tools, hitch hardware, bed cargo, and accessories. A truck may advertise a high tow rating and still be overloaded at the rear axle or beyond its payload sticker with this fifth wheel.
Recommended Free Tools
Use the trailer’s GVWR for conservative planning rather than its empty dry weight. Read the tow vehicle’s driver-door payload label, account for every occupant and item, verify axle and tire ratings, and weigh the loaded combination at a certified scale. The RV Industry Association recommends considering payload and notes that loaded trailer tongue weight is ideally about 10% to 15% of loaded trailer weight; fifth wheels apply the same basic caution through pin weight.

Used-buyer risks
A 36-ft fifth wheel needs a large, level campsite and is inconvenient in tight campgrounds, older parks, urban areas, and short driveways. Three slides add seals, motors, wiring, and alignment points that deserve careful testing. Owner reports have described unit-specific issues involving refrigerators, slides, shades, water heaters, and electrical components. Reports such as those collected by RV Travel and a Grand Design owners’ forum slide discussion are inspection prompts, not evidence of a fleet-wide defect rate.
Best for: couples or families who travel slowly, stay several nights at a time, and already own—or are prepared to buy—a properly matched heavy-duty pickup.
Avoid it if: you want easy maneuverability, frequent small-campsite travel, or a tow vehicle that is only marginally rated for the trailer.
5. Newmar New Aire 3543: best compact luxury Class A
The 2022 Newmar New Aire 3543 is the premium pick. It provides diesel-pusher performance and luxury equipment in a coach about 35 ft 10 in long—short by luxury Class A standards, though still a large vehicle for many drivers and campgrounds.
Important 2022 specifications and equipment
- Approximately 35 ft 10 in across the three floor plans.
- 450-hp Cummins diesel engine.
- Freightliner chassis, with Spartan chassis available as an option.
- Comfort Drive steering, electronic stability control, and independent front suspension.
- OnGuard collision mitigation and adaptive cruise control.
- Tire-pressure monitoring and Mobileye lane-assist system with haptic feedback.
- 105-gal fresh-water, 60-gal gray-water, and 40-gal sewage tanks.
- 50,000-BTU furnace and standard 8.0-kW Cummins Onan diesel generator.
- King bed in the 3543 floor plan.
- Approximately 4,250 lb of net carrying capacity in the brochure configuration shown.
Winnebago’s 2021/2022 investor presentation placed the New Aire’s starting MSRP at approximately $470,000. That is a corporate presentation figure, not a guaranteed transaction price, and it should not be confused with a 2026 used-market value.
Why it stands out
The New Aire is aimed at a buyer who wants premium materials, a king-bed floor plan, substantial tank capacity, diesel power, and advanced driver-assistance equipment without moving to a 40- or 45-ft coach. The 3543 is particularly well suited to couples who spend extended time on the road and want a higher-end kitchen, bathroom, and lounge than the smaller motorhomes can provide.
RVUSA included the New Aire among its notable 2022 RVs, citing its compact Class A format, Newmar luxury, and 3543 updates. That article is useful contemporary product coverage, not an independent durability test.
Ownership costs and recall check
Everything costs more at this level: diesel and generator service, tires, insurance, storage, chassis repairs, coach electronics, and specialized RV labor. A 35-ft coach can still be too long for older or length-restricted campgrounds, and a luxury interior does not eliminate roof, seal, slide, plumbing, or appliance maintenance.
Certain 2022–2023 New Aire coaches equipped with an affected International Thermal Research heater may be covered by NHTSA recall 22V-583. The issue involved an incorrect fuel line that could leak fuel and create a fire risk. Verify the VIN and documented remedy before purchase.
Best for: luxury-oriented couples who want a premium diesel coach and can absorb the ownership costs.
Avoid it if: your budget depends on low maintenance, you dislike driving a large vehicle, or you usually camp in small rustic sites.

Which RV type is right for you?
| If your priority is… | Start with… | Why | Accept the trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Easy driving and parking | Solis 59PX | Van footprint and familiar road behavior | Limited water, storage, and interior space |
| Adventure gear and more space than a van | EKKO 22A | AWD, Class C living space, tanks, and exterior storage | High price for a compact coach |
| Family camping with a small towable | Mantis Overland | Flexible beds, pop-up roof, wet bath, and gear capacity | Less residential comfort |
| Extended stays and a home-like interior | Reflection 341RDS | Triple slides, rear living room, large tanks, and residential features | Large tow vehicle and difficult campsite access |
| Luxury touring | New Aire 3543 | Diesel power, premium interior, king bed, and driver assistance | Very high purchase and operating costs |
There is no universally superior choice between a Class A, B, or C. Class A coaches generally provide the most residential space; Class B vans are easiest to maneuver; Class C models often balance cab-based driving with a larger coach body. A travel trailer can be a good compromise if you want to leave the trailer at camp and use the tow vehicle independently. A fifth wheel generally offers more living space and stability than a comparable bumper-pull trailer, but it requires a compatible pickup and more attention to payload.
How to buy a 2022 RV in 2026
A four-year-old RV can be an attractive value, but age does not tell the whole story. A unit with low mileage may have spent years stationary with neglected roof seals, old tires, unused appliances, or hidden moisture. Conversely, a well-maintained, frequently used RV may be a safer purchase than a neglected low-mileage example.
1. Verify the exact unit
- Record the 17-character VIN and confirm that it matches the title, dashboard, door label, and seller’s paperwork.
- Identify the exact floor plan, chassis, axle ratings, tire ratings, generator, battery bank, solar equipment, refrigerator, and options.
- Ask whether the RV was modified, especially around lithium batteries, solar, inverters, refrigeration, plumbing, suspension, or hitch equipment.
- Request maintenance records, repair invoices, recall paperwork, manuals, and evidence of proper winterization.
2. Search recalls by VIN
Use the NHTSA recall lookup. A year or model search is not enough: the VIN determines whether a particular unit has an unrepaired safety recall. Recall repairs are generally performed free of charge by an authorized manufacturer dealer. Also contact the chassis manufacturer where appropriate and ask the RV manufacturer or dealer about service campaigns that may not appear as federal safety recalls.
3. Hire an independent inspector
A dealer’s inspection is not the same as an inspection by a qualified professional selected by the buyer. An independent RV inspection should include both the automotive chassis and the habitation systems. Pay particular attention to:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Structure and water: roof membrane and sealant, roof penetrations, windows, vents, slide seals, staining, soft floors, delamination, bubbling, musty odor, and amateur repairs.
- Chassis: engine, transmission, brakes, steering, suspension, tires, lights, backup camera, leveling equipment, and evidence of collision or water exposure.
- Power: shore-power inlet, converter, inverter, batteries, solar charging, generator operation under load, transfer switch, outlets, and circuit protection.
- Appliances: refrigerator in both applicable power modes, furnace, air-conditioning, water heater, microwave, range, and ventilation fans.
- Plumbing: fresh-water tank, city-water connection, pump, faucets, shower, toilet, drain lines, water heater, gray and black tanks, or cassette system. Look for leaks under sinks and around the bathroom.
- Slides and exterior equipment: operate every slide through its complete travel, along with awnings, steps, doors, windows, roof vents, latches, racks, pop-tops, and leveling systems.
- Tires: inspect sidewalls, load rating, cracking, and date codes. Low mileage does not make an old tire new.
4. Weigh the real combination
For a trailer, do not compare only empty trailer weight with the tow vehicle’s maximum tow rating. Use the trailer’s GVWR for conservative planning. Add passengers, cargo, fuel, hitch hardware, tongue or pin weight, and accessories. Check the vehicle’s payload sticker, axle ratings, tire ratings, receiver or fifth-wheel hitch rating, and required trailer brakes. After loading for a trip, weigh the complete combination at a certified scale. For the Reflection 341RDS in particular, the approximately 2,042-lb pin weight can use most of a pickup’s payload before people and cargo are added.
5. Price condition, not the model-year badge
The historical MSRPs in this guide are useful for understanding where each RV sat in the 2022 market. They are not current retail or used-market prices. A 2022 RV’s present value depends on location, mileage, condition, maintenance, modifications, tire age, water damage, generator hours, service history, season, and whether recalls have been completed. Compare several comparable listings and budget for an inspection, immediate maintenance, tires, registration, insurance, and repairs.
Alternatives worth considering
- Winnebago Travato: a smaller, more van-like alternative to the Solis for buyers who prioritize maneuverability and simpler travel.
- Tiffin Cahaba: a premium Class B alternative for shoppers who want a more upscale van conversion.
- Airstream Flying Cloud: a polished small-trailer alternative. Airstream won the small camping trailer category in RV Magazine’s 2022 Readers’ Choice Awards. Use the 2022 Flying Cloud brochure for floor-plan-specific dimensions, weights, and capacities rather than relying on current model-year pages.
- Grand Design Imagine: a conventional travel-trailer alternative for shoppers who want more residential features than the Mantis provides but do not need a fifth wheel.
- Keystone Sprinter: a popularity-driven family-trailer alternative. Its appearance on RV Trader’s 2022 search list indicates shopper interest, not a universal quality verdict.
- Newmar Dutch Star: a larger luxury Class A alternative to the shorter New Aire for buyers who want more space and accept less maneuverability.
- Lance 650 or Bigfoot 2500: truck-camper directions for buyers who want a removable living unit and already own a suitably rated pickup.
What other 2022 RV coverage gets right—and leaves out
RV Trader is useful for identifying shopper interest, but its popularity ranking does not analyze floor-plan usability, towing, recalls, water damage, or used-buying risk. RV Magazine’s Readers’ Choice results show broad brand recognition, not model-by-model testing. RVUSA’s roundup identifies notable products such as the EKKO, Grand Design Reflection, Newmar New Aire, Tiffin Cahaba, and Fleetwood Frontier, but hottest is not a defined testing method.
Outside provided particularly useful coverage of compact, adventure-oriented trailers such as the Mantis Overland, along with other unusual rigs including Dave and Matt Vans and Skinny Guy Campers. Its focus was not a full Class A, fifth-wheel, recall, or tow-vehicle comparison. Camping World’s 2022 motorhome roundup is useful for introductory layouts and features but comes from a retailer and does not supply independent reliability evidence. Motor1’s 2022 roundup is better viewed as a collection of notable builds, conversions, concepts, and unusual RV stories than as a practical buyer ranking.

No recommendation here should be read as a promise that an individual 2022 RV will be trouble-free, four-season, lightweight, or ready for unlimited off-grid use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are these the five most popular RVs of 2022?
No. This is an editorial category-winner list. RV Trader’s shopper-search ranking named the Keystone Sprinter, Newmar Dutch Star, Grand Design Reflection, Winnebago Travato, and Grand Design Imagine. Popularity measures search interest, while this guide also considers use-case fit, livability, mobility, equipment, specifications, and used-buyer practicality.
Is a 2022 RV worth buying in 2026?
It can be, but condition matters more than the model year. Have the RV independently inspected, check its VIN for recalls, verify tire age, test every appliance and generator, inspect for water intrusion, and review service records. Do not assume low mileage means low wear or that an expired warranty leaves you protected.
What truck do I need to tow the Reflection 341RDS?
There is no universal answer without the exact truck and its door-jamb payload sticker. The approximately 2,042-lb pin weight must be combined with passengers, fuel, hitch hardware, tools, and cargo, then checked against payload, axle, tire, and hitch ratings. Use the fifth wheel’s GVWR for conservative planning and confirm the loaded combination at a certified scale.

Does the EKKO or Solis provide unlimited off-grid camping?
No. Solar panels, batteries, generators, and large tanks extend off-grid capability but do not remove limits on water, waste, electricity, heating, cooling, or fuel. Actual autonomy depends on weather, temperature, energy use, battery condition, tank capacity, and the equipment installed on the individual VIN.
The Bottom Line
The Winnebago EKKO 22A is the most balanced adventure-oriented choice, the Solis 59PX is the easiest flexible camper van, the Mantis Overland is the best compact outdoor trailer, the Reflection 341RDS is the strongest residential fifth-wheel layout, and the New Aire 3543 is the luxury pick. For a 2022 RV bought in 2026, the best model on paper is only the starting point: verify the VIN, inspect the structure and systems, match the real weights to the tow vehicle, and buy the specific unit with the best documentation and condition.
