The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt Is Back: What Changed, What It Costs and What to Expect

Chevrolet ended Bolt production in December 2023, then revived the nameplate for the 2027 model year. The returning Bolt is listed at a $28,995 starting MSRP including destination, with up to 262 miles of EPA-estimated range and a native NACS charging port. Those are Chevrolet’s published figures—not results from an independent road test—and local pricing and availability can vary.

Why did Chevrolet discontinue the Bolt and bring it back?

The Bolt first reached the market in 2017 as one of GM’s early efforts to make a long-range electric car at an accessible price. Chevrolet says production ended in December 2023. In July 2025, GM previewed the Bolt’s return as a 2027 model; Chevrolet formally introduced it that October.

The pause did not mean Chevrolet had abandoned the nameplate. In its July 2023 announcement of a next-generation Bolt, the company said the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV had their strongest first-half sales to date. Chevrolet also reported then that 80% of Bolt owners stayed with the brand and nearly 70% of Bolt trade-ins came from non-GM vehicles. Those were company-reported figures, not independent market research. [Chevrolet, July 25, 2023]

Chevrolet vice president Scott Bell said the revived car followed customer feedback and would return “for a limited time.” GM has not described that phrase as a specific end date or production volume. [Chevrolet, October 9, 2025]

How much does the 2027 Bolt cost, and where is it available?

Chevrolet’s April 2026 update lists a $28,995 starting MSRP for the LT, including destination, and says the 2027 Bolt is available at Chevrolet dealerships nationwide. Chevrolet calls it America’s most affordable EV based on its own comparison; that is the automaker’s claim, not an independent ranking. [Chevrolet, April 2026]

MSRP is not a guaranteed transaction price. Chevrolet excludes taxes, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment, and dealers set final prices. Nationwide availability does not guarantee that a particular dealer has a Bolt in stock.

What range and charging time does Chevrolet claim?

Chevrolet lists up to 262 miles of EPA-estimated range on a full charge, a peak DC fast-charging rate of 150 kW, and 25 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independently measured results. [Chevrolet, April 2026]

The 25-minute figure describes a particular state-of-charge window, not every charging stop. Actual time can change with the battery’s temperature and condition, starting charge, charger output and vehicle settings. Range also varies with weather, terrain, load, battery condition and driving use.

GM chief engineer Jeremy Short said the new Bolt has the same battery capacity as its predecessor, while more efficient components add 15 miles of range. He also attributed the faster charging and lower-cost strategy to the battery’s lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry. Those are GM’s explanations for the engineering choices, not independent teardown findings. [GM, March 9, 2026]

Does the 2027 Bolt have a NACS port?

Yes. Chevrolet says the Bolt has a native NACS port, which expands access to public charging networks without making every station compatible or available. Station access depends on the specific site and operating conditions. Chevrolet described the port as a first for the brand when it introduced the car. [Chevrolet, October 9, 2025]

At home, owners considering a Level 2 charger should verify its connector and installation requirements against the vehicle and their electrical setup. A NACS port by itself does not establish that a particular charger is compatible or that a home is ready for installation.

What changed inside the revived Bolt?

Chevrolet lists an 11.3-inch center touchscreen, an 11-inch driver information display, USB-C ports and a redesigned console and storage layout. Wireless phone charging is available. The lineup adds an RS trim, while Chevrolet says more than 20 safety and driver-assistance features are standard. Equipment and availability can vary by trim.

Super Cruise is available only later and requires an active plan or trial under Chevrolet’s terms. It is not an included, immediately available feature on every Bolt. [Chevrolet, October 9, 2025]

Short said the Bolt shares its display hardware with GM mid-size trucks and uses the motor and power electronics found in the Equinox EV. He described component sharing and economies of scale as key to controlling cost. These are the chief engineer’s account of the program, rather than independently verified component comparisons. [GM, March 9, 2026]

Can the Bolt power a home during an outage?

Chevrolet describes vehicle-to-home (V2H) capability, but it is conditional rather than an out-of-the-box backup guarantee. Chevrolet says it requires a GM Energy PowerShift Charger and V2H Enablement Kit, a properly equipped Bolt and home, and correct grid interconnection. Buyers should confirm equipment, installation and eligibility requirements with Chevrolet or an installer before relying on V2H for backup power. [Chevrolet, October 9, 2025]

What the published specifications can—and cannot—tell you

The 2027 Bolt’s published story is a familiar affordable-EV nameplate returning with a faster charging claim, a native NACS port and updated cabin technology. Chevrolet’s current figures give shoppers a useful starting point, but they do not establish real-world range, charging performance, dealer transaction prices or how the car compares with competing EVs in independent testing.
