The crossover styling is confirmed, but battery, range, charging connector and availability depend on the market.
When did the next Nissan Leaf come out?
Nissan first said on March 26, 2025, that the United States and Canada would be the first markets to launch the all-new LEAF in fiscal year 2025. Nissan’s fiscal year runs from April through March, so that plan pointed to a launch window rather than a specific calendar date. The company unveiled the third-generation model on June 17, 2025, and called it the 2026 LEAF in its North American announcement. Nissan’s reveal announcement has the North American model-year and range details; its March product-plan announcement describes the earlier schedule.
Subsequent updates show that the car moved beyond its reveal. Nissan France opened orders on December 1, 2025, and said first deliveries were expected in March 2026. On February 4, 2026, Nissan reported that production had started in the UK and Japan. These are market-specific milestones, not confirmation of dealer stock, pricing or delivery dates in every country. Check Nissan’s local site or a local dealer for current availability.
Is the new Nissan Leaf a crossover?
Yes. Nissan describes the new LEAF as a family-friendly electric crossover, combining an SUV-like stance with a sleek, fastback-like profile. The change is more than a rumor about the car’s shape: crossover is Nissan’s own description of its positioning. The model uses Nissan’s modular CMF-EV platform, which the company also names for the Ariya; that platform relationship alone does not establish that the two vehicles share specific components. How far can the 2026 Nissan Leaf go?
Published range figures vary by market, battery and rating system. They should not be read as a direct comparison unless the trim, test cycle and conditions match.

Nissan’s global product page lists liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery options of 52 kWh and 75 kWh, but those capacities do not establish usable capacity or mean that every trim and market offers both. The French WLTP figures and North American estimate use different regional specifications and rating systems; comparing the numbers as if they came from one test would be misleading.

What charging plug does the new Nissan Leaf use?
The connector depends on the market. Nissan’s North American announcement specifies a NACS port and says the vehicle is intended to have access to Tesla Superchargers. Nissan France’s 2025 release specifies CCS 2 and DC fast charging up to 150 kW for that market. Do not assume one region’s connector or charging capability applies to another.
Nissan also describes route planning with charging information and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability on its global LEAF page. In France, Nissan lists a V2L adapter as an option for certain trims; it is an accessory, not an assurance that every vehicle includes one. Check the local specification and accessory compatibility before buying.

What is confirmed—and what still varies by market?
