Several genuinely important electric vehicles are expected to reach showrooms during 2026, from affordable compact cars to three-row SUVs and new electric trucks. The most significant arrivals are not necessarily the quickest or most luxurious: Rivian’s R2, the next-generation Nissan Leaf, Honda’s first production models from the 0 Series, and Volkswagen’s smaller ID cars could determine how accessible EVs become.

Exact timing, pricing, range, and availability remain subject to change. “Coming in 2026” also means different things for different vehicles: some are confirmed for production, some are expected to begin deliveries late in the year, and others may arrive first in Europe or in limited quantities. The list below focuses primarily on vehicles relevant to North American buyers.

The 19 best EVs expected in 2026

EV Type Why it matters Expected timing
Rivian R2 Compact/midsize SUV Rivian’s attempt to move below the expensive R1S 2026
Nissan Leaf Compact crossover A more practical replacement for Nissan’s hatchback 2026
Honda 0 SUV Midsize SUV Honda’s first model from its new dedicated EV family 2026
Honda 0 Saloon Electric sedan A production interpretation of Honda’s striking concept Late 2026 or later
Scout Traveler Rugged SUV Body-on-frame-inspired utility and available range-extender technology Late 2026 production target
Scout Terra Electric pickup A new competitor for the electric truck market Late 2026 production target
Jeep Recon Off-road SUV A removable-door electric Jeep designed for trail use 2026
Ram 1500 REV Full-size pickup A long-range electric truck with a conventional pickup format Expected in 2026
Volkswagen ID.2 Small hatchback Aiming to bring Volkswagen EV pricing closer to its gas cars Europe, expected 2026
Volkswagen ID.2 X Small crossover A raised alternative to the ID.2 hatchback Europe, expected 2026
Kia EV4 Compact sedan/hatchback A lower-cost, aerodynamic EV below the EV6 2026 in additional markets
Kia EV5 Compact SUV A practical electric crossover positioned below the EV9 2026 in North America expected
Volvo EX60 Midsize SUV A central replacement-sized model for Volvo’s EV range 2026
Polestar 6 Electric roadster A low-volume performance convertible 2026 target
Porsche Cayenne Electric Luxury SUV The first battery-electric version of Porsche’s best-known SUV line 2026 target
Mercedes-Benz electric GLC Luxury crossover A high-volume electric counterpart to the GLC 2026
BMW i3 Electric sedan The first Neue Klasse production sedan 2026
Lexus ES Electric luxury sedan A quieter, more efficient alternative to the traditional ES 2026
Tesla Roadster Electric sports car A long-delayed halo car, if Tesla finally puts it into production Uncertain; potentially 2026

1. Rivian R2

The R2 is the most consequential new Rivian. Unlike the large R1S, it is intended to occupy the far larger compact-to-midsize SUV market, where it will face the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and a growing group of electric crossovers.

Rivian has described the R2 as a more affordable, simpler vehicle than the R1S, while retaining the company’s outdoors-focused design. Dual-motor all-wheel drive is expected, with a less expensive single-motor version likely to follow. Rivian plans to begin production before the end of 2026, although early availability may be limited and manufacturing ramp-up could affect delivery dates.

  • Indication Displays - LED display that can tell you the status as well as indicate errors while charging your electric vehicle.

2. Nissan Leaf

Nissan’s next Leaf is expected to abandon the upright hatchback shape that defined the first two generations. The replacement is a crossover-style EV, giving it a more familiar profile and more useful rear cargo space.

That change matters because the Leaf has increasingly struggled against newer vehicles with faster charging, longer range, and more refined interiors. The next model is expected to use Nissan’s newer electric-vehicle architecture and should offer substantially quicker road-trip charging. Buyers should watch for final battery choices, because Nissan has not always offered the same specifications in every market.

3. Honda 0 SUV

Honda’s 0 SUV will lead the company’s new dedicated EV lineup in North America. It is based on the Space-Hub-inspired direction Honda showed in its 0 Series concepts, though the production version will be considerably more conventional.

The SUV is expected to emphasize a spacious cabin, a low dashboard, a clean interface, and a relatively aerodynamic body. Honda is also promoting advanced driver-assistance technology for the 0 Series. The important question is not whether the concept’s dramatic styling survives, but whether Honda can deliver competitive charging and software after arriving later than several rivals.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Honda 0 Saloon

The 0 Saloon is the most distinctive member of Honda’s new EV family. The concept was a low, wedge-shaped sedan with unusual proportions; the production car will inevitably be toned down, but it should remain more interesting than an anonymous electric four-door.

It may not be the volume seller in Honda’s lineup. Sedans are a smaller market than SUVs, and a premium-leaning electric sedan will have to justify itself against the Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Ioniq 6, and established luxury EVs. It is best viewed as Honda’s technology and design statement, with North American timing potentially extending beyond the earliest 2026 target.

5. Scout Traveler

The Scout Traveler is aimed at buyers who want an electric SUV with a more utilitarian character than the typical smooth-sided crossover. Scout plans a boxy body, serious ground clearance, off-road hardware, and a cabin designed for people who actually carry equipment.

Scout also intends to offer a range-extender powertrain. That version would use an engine to generate electricity rather than driving the wheels directly, allowing longer remote trips without making the vehicle entirely dependent on fast chargers. Production timing is targeted for late 2026, so first-year supply and final specifications remain uncertain.

6. Scout Terra

The Terra will share much of its engineering with the Traveler but apply it to a pickup body. Its rivals will include the Rivian R1T, Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado EV, and the upcoming electric Ram.

Scout’s advantage could be its focus on usable off-road capability rather than merely adding a large battery to a street truck. The range-extender option may also appeal to rural and recreational buyers who cannot rely on a dense charging network. As with the Traveler, a late-2026 production target is not the same as broad dealer availability.

7. Jeep Recon

The Recon is intended to be Jeep’s dedicated electric off-roader. It is not simply an electric Compass or Wrangler replacement: Jeep has indicated that it will feature removable doors and a removable roof, along with the trail hardware expected from a vehicle wearing the Jeep badge.

Its appeal will depend on more than range. Jeep must preserve low-speed control, water resistance, underbody protection, and dependable operation away from paved roads. Buyers should also expect compromises in highway efficiency, wind noise, and charging speed if the Recon prioritizes rugged equipment.

8. Ram 1500 REV

Ram’s electric 1500 has faced timing changes, but it remains one of the most watched 2026 truck launches. The full-size pickup is expected to offer a large battery, substantial towing capability, four-wheel drive, and the storage advantages of an electric truck.

Ram has also discussed a range-extender version, which could be particularly useful for customers who tow. Towing can reduce EV range dramatically, so the final battery, charging curve, payload rating, and trailer-assistance systems matter more than an impressive unloaded range claim.

9. Volkswagen ID.2

The ID.2 is Volkswagen’s planned small electric hatchback for Europe. It is designed to bring EV ownership into the size and price territory occupied by cars such as the Polo rather than larger ID.3 and ID.4 models.

This is one of the most important European EVs on the list, but it is not expected to be a U.S. product. Volkswagen’s smaller electric models are being developed around European dimensions, regulations, and buyer preferences. A low starting price will depend on battery size and equipment, so headline pricing should not be confused with a long-range, fully equipped version.

10. Volkswagen ID.2 X

The ID.2 X should be the crossover companion to the ID.2 hatchback. The formula is familiar: a slightly taller body, more upright seating, and styling intended to make a small car look more substantial.

It may become more important than the hatchback because European buyers have shifted strongly toward small SUVs. The trade-off will likely be efficiency. A raised body and larger wheels normally reduce range compared with an equivalent hatchback, particularly on motorways.

11. Kia EV4

The EV4 is expected to give Kia a smaller, more affordable electric model with a choice of sedan-like and hatchback-style body designs depending on market. It should sit below the EV6 in size and price while retaining the brand’s sharper styling.

For buyers who do not need an SUV, the EV4 could be one of the more interesting alternatives to the Tesla Model 3. Its success will depend on whether Kia equips it with competitive DC charging and a usable heat-pump system, not just an attractive exterior and a low advertised starting price.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

12. Kia EV5

The EV5 is a compact electric SUV that has already appeared in some markets and is expected to expand into North America around the 2026 timeframe. Its square shape and practical interior put it closer to the popular compact-crossover segment than the larger EV6.

The EV5 should appeal to families who find the EV6 too sleek and the EV9 too large. North American buyers should wait for local details rather than importing specifications from China or other markets; battery sizes, power outputs, software, and charging hardware can differ substantially.

13. Volvo EX60

The EX60 is expected to become Volvo’s electric equivalent of the XC60, one of the company’s most important global models. That makes it a much more significant launch than a low-volume performance car.

Volvo is likely to emphasize Scandinavian interior design, safety systems, all-wheel-drive availability, and Google-based infotainment. The EX60 will face strong competition from the Tesla Model Y, BMW iX3, Mercedes electric GLC, and Audi’s midsize electric SUVs. Its biggest challenge will be balancing premium pricing with the relatively high value expectations of the midsize SUV segment.

14. Polestar 6

The Polestar 6 is a dramatic electric roadster derived from the O2 concept. It is expected to be a low-volume, high-performance model rather than a mass-market convertible.

A roadster makes little practical sense for most EV buyers, but it can showcase rapid acceleration, high-voltage charging, and Polestar’s minimalist design language. Production timing has been described as a 2026 target, not a guarantee. The company’s financial position and production priorities make final confirmation especially important before placing a deposit.

15. Porsche Cayenne Electric

Porsche is preparing a battery-electric Cayenne to sit alongside, rather than immediately replace, combustion and hybrid versions. It should use a large battery and a performance-oriented chassis, with the quietness and instant response expected of a modern luxury EV.

The electric Cayenne will not be an affordable family SUV. Its strengths should include handling, high-speed stability, towing capability, and fast charging. Porsche buyers will need to compare it with the electric Macan: the Cayenne should offer more space and presence, while the Macan is likely to remain the sportier and less expensive entry point.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

16. Mercedes-Benz electric GLC

The electric GLC is expected to be one of Mercedes-Benz’s highest-volume new EVs. The regular GLC is already a core model for the brand, so an electric counterpart has a more realistic path to meaningful sales than a specialized flagship.

Expect a luxury cabin, a broad range of power outputs, and a strong emphasis on software and charging. Mercedes will have to prove that the electric GLC offers enough practical improvement over the existing EQB and EQE SUV, while avoiding the pricing problem that has made some premium EVs difficult to recommend.

17. BMW i3

BMW’s next i3 is expected to be a sedan based on the company’s Neue Klasse architecture, not a revival of the small carbon-fiber hatchback sold in the previous decade. The new car should introduce BMW’s next generation of battery, electrical, and infotainment technology.

The i3 could be especially important for efficiency. BMW has suggested that the Neue Klasse platform will bring meaningful improvements in range, charging, and production efficiency. A performance version is likely eventually, but the initial car should be judged on everyday usability rather than headline acceleration.

  • [BUILT FOR SAFE & RELIABLE EVERYDAY CHARGING] Designed for repeated home and on-the-road use, the charger features an IP66 water-resistant enclosure, fire-resistant materials, and multi-layer electrical protection. It is designed to operate in temperatures from −22°F to 122°F, supporting charging in garages, driveways, and changing outdoor conditions. Combining dual-voltage flexibility, a long cable, portable construction, and multiple safety protections, this EV portable charger works as a dependable everyday charger or a convenient backup charging solution.

18. Lexus ES

The next Lexus ES is expected to expand beyond its traditional hybrid and gasoline identity with a fully electric version. Its likely strengths are comfort, quietness, a relaxed ride, and a more conservative design than many new EVs.

That makes it a potentially appealing choice for buyers who want an electric sedan without a minimalist or aggressively sporty cabin. Lexus will need to deliver a competitive charging experience and a well-integrated interface; smoothness alone will not compensate for a slow road-trip experience.

19. Tesla Roadster

The Tesla Roadster remains the least certain vehicle on this list. Tesla announced it years ago, but repeated delays mean it should not be treated like a normal confirmed 2026 model. If it reaches production, it is expected to be a very fast, low-volume sports car with an unusually high price.

It belongs here because Tesla continues to discuss the project, not because a firm delivery schedule is dependable. Anyone considering one should wait for a production vehicle, final specifications, and a real reservation-to-delivery process rather than relying on old concept claims.

What to check before ordering a 2026 EV

  1. Confirm the market. A vehicle announced globally may launch only in Europe, China, or a small number of U.S. states at first.
  2. Separate a production target from a delivery date. “Production begins in 2026” can mean customer deliveries do not start until late in the year or 2027.
  3. Use the correct range test. EPA, WLTP, and China’s CLTC figures are measured differently and should not be compared as though they were equivalent.
  4. Look at charging hardware. Battery size matters less on road trips if the vehicle has a poor charging curve or lacks access to a dependable fast-charging network.
  5. Check the tax-credit situation. Eligibility can depend on final assembly, battery sourcing, income, purchase method, and changes in federal or state rules.
  6. Ask about the first model year. New EVs often arrive with software bugs, limited parts availability, and rapidly changing trim levels. Waiting six months can reveal whether the launch is going smoothly.

FAQ

Which 2026 EV is likely to have the biggest impact?

The Rivian R2 is one of the most important because it brings Rivian into the much larger compact and midsize SUV market. The Nissan Leaf and Honda 0 SUV could also be significant if they combine competitive pricing with fast charging.

Will all of these EVs be available in the United States?

No. The Volkswagen ID.2 and ID.2 X are expected primarily for Europe, while other vehicles may launch in limited regions or later than their global production dates. Always check the manufacturer’s U.S. site and local dealer inventory.

Which 2026 EVs are expected to offer a range extender?

Scout has planned range-extender versions of the Traveler and Terra, and Ram has discussed a range-extender powertrain for its electric 1500. Final specifications and release timing may differ from the battery-electric versions.

Is the Tesla Roadster definitely coming in 2026?

No. The Roadster remains highly uncertain because its production and delivery schedule has changed repeatedly. It should be considered a possible 2026 vehicle rather than a confirmed launch.

The Bottom Line

For most buyers, the Rivian R2, Nissan Leaf, Honda 0 SUV, Kia EV5, Volvo EX60, and electric Mercedes GLC are the 2026 EVs worth watching most closely. They target useful everyday categories rather than narrow luxury niches. The Scout Traveler and Terra are more compelling for buyers who need rugged capability, while the Porsche Cayenne Electric, Polestar 6, and possible Tesla Roadster will serve performance and luxury buyers.

Do not buy based on a promised launch year alone. Confirm the final range rating, charging speed, local availability, price, warranty, and delivery date when each manufacturer opens orders.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
