Kelley Blue Book’s 2024 Best Resale Value Awards projected that the Ford Bronco would retain the largest share of its original MSRP after five years: 66.7%. The list below is a historical forecast for 2024 model-year vehicles—not a current used-car price ranking or a guarantee of what a particular vehicle will sell for.
The 2024 cars with the best projected resale value
Kelley Blue Book ranked these vehicles by projected resale value after five years, expressed as a percentage of original MSRP. KBB describes the residual values as projections for vehicles in average condition with 75,000 miles at the end of a five-year lease or ownership period.

Kelley Blue Book’s 2024 award article lists the models and percentages. Its March 11, 2024 announcement says the residual projections were based on 2024 model-year vehicles included in the January/February 2024 Kelley Blue Book Official Residual Value Guide. KBB excluded low-volume vehicles except in electric, luxury, and sports-car categories.
How to interpret the five-year percentages
The percentage is a projected share of original MSRP, not a prediction of the vehicle’s exact future sale price. For example, a 2024 Bronco’s 66.7% figure means KBB projected that a vehicle matching the award’s assumptions would retain that proportion of its original MSRP after five years. It does not account for the specific car’s trim, options, condition, mileage, location, or market at the time it is sold.

KBB said its analysts review statistical models built from millions of transactions. In its 2024 announcement, the company projected that an average 2024 model-year vehicle would retain about 42.4% of its original value after five years; each vehicle in this top ten was projected to retain about 58% or more. The award article put the top-ten average at about 59% and estimated a nearly $6,000 difference for a $35,000 vehicle over a five-year buy-own-sell cycle. These are approximate KBB figures from 2024, not a calculation for an individual buyer.
What this ranking can—and cannot—tell you
It compares projected depreciation, not overall value
A higher retained-value percentage does not mean a vehicle is cheaper to buy, less expensive to own, more reliable, or better suited to your needs. It isolates one consideration: the projected portion of MSRP remaining after five years. Insurance, fuel, maintenance, financing, taxes, purchase price, and the vehicle’s eventual condition all affect the economics of ownership.
The vehicles serve very different buyers
The ten include off-road SUVs, pickups, a luxury SUV, sports cars, a hybrid, and a compact pickup. A resale-value ranking cannot decide between, for example, a sports car and a work truck. Choose first for your use, size, capability, powertrain, and budget; use the forecast as one comparison point among suitable options.
KBB’s 2024 award article listed starting prices of $41,525 for the Ford Bronco and $32,995 for the Toyota Tacoma. Those are starting prices quoted in that award article, not current transaction prices. The award percentages likewise should not be treated as current market values.

How to estimate a specific car’s value now
To price a particular vehicle, use a current valuation that accounts for its year, trim, mileage, condition, location, and whether you plan to sell privately or trade it in. Kelley Blue Book says its values use transactions in the reader’s area and describes its Price Advisor and trade-in values as tools for that purpose. The 2024 award provides no current, vehicle-specific appraisal.
