The best budget Ferrari depends on what you mean by budget: a low purchase price is not the same as affordable ownership. For this guide, “budget” means candidates identified in a 2026 U.S. secondary market guide, not a promise of low running costs; its price ranges are estimates, not guaranteed asking or sale prices. Start with the individual car’s condition, records, and a specialist inspection, then choose a model that suits your use and maintenance reserve.
How to read this shortlist
The ranges below are Motortopia’s 2026 estimates, which it says draw on market references including Hagerty Valuation Tools and completed auction results from January through June 2026. Those underlying records were not independently checked for this guide, so treat the figures as a rough U.S.-dollar snapshot, not verified values or a definitive ranking. Some candidates exceed $100,000, and the range for a model does not mean every variant or example is comparable.
The list is organized by the guide’s reported ranges rather than a claim that one Ferrari is objectively “best.” Condition and documented work can matter more than model or price. The Ferrari Club of America Southwest Region advises buyers to inspect the car, review its history and service records, and buy the best example they can afford. GQ’s vintage-Ferrari buying feature likewise emphasizes inspection and the risks of a neglected car.
10 used Ferraris to consider on a budget
| Model | Reported 2026 U.S. estimate | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| 365 GT4/400/412 | $30,000–$65,000 | Low estimates do not establish low ownership costs. Have a specialist assess the individual car and its records. |
| 308 GT4 | $35,000–$65,000 | A listed candidate under $100,000; verify condition, maintenance, and provenance. |
| Mondial | $20,000–$60,000 | Entry price alone is not a measure of total affordability. Focus on service history and inspection findings. |
| 308 GTB/GTS | $40,000–$90,000 | Variants differ; do not treat carbureted, injected, and quattrovalvole cars as one uniform proposition. |
| 348 GTB/GTS | $45,000–$75,000 | The club cautions that a lower-priced example may be cheap for a reason. Check recent service and condition. |
| 348 Challenge | $50,000–$70,000 | Confirm road legality, specification, and suitability for your intended use before considering a competition-derived car. |
| 328 GTB/GTS | $75,000–$130,000 | The range crosses $100,000. The club gives a 328 as a possible better choice than a cheaper 308 variant where budget permits. |
| F355 | $80,000–$140,000 | The estimate crosses common budget caps; this research did not validate a model-specific repair checklist. |
| Testarossa | $80,000–$135,000 | The club specifically flags expensive timing-belt replacements. Confirm service status with a specialist. |
| 550 Maranello | $100,000–$185,000 | Many examples sit above a $100,000 purchase-price cap, so it fits only a broader idea of budget. |
These estimates are reported by Motortopia’s 2026 affordability guide; they are secondary estimates, not independently verified values. A separate California reference is much older and from a different market: PistonHeads’ June 2020 UK article described the 2008–2014 California as available from £60,000 at that time. Do not compare that dated UK figure directly with the 2026 U.S. estimates above.

Choosing the right Ferrari for your use
A classic mid-engined V8, a front-engined GT, and a folding-hardtop California serve different needs. GQ’s specialist buying advice highlights use case as well as the condition of the individual car. Decide whether you want a classic driving experience, a grand tourer, or a more modern everyday format before comparing prices.
The California is a distinct alternative to the ten candidates above if usability is a priority. PistonHeads describes the 2008–2014 model as having a naturally aspirated 4.3-litre V8 and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and notes the California 30 update in 2012. The later California T is turbocharged. Its quoted £60,000 starting point is UK context from 2020, not a current valuation.

How to buy without mistaking cheap for affordable
- Set the real budget. State your country, currency, purchase-price ceiling, and the reserve you can keep for ownership. The available sources warn of potentially expensive deferred work but do not establish a current repair budget for every model.
- Review the records and history. Ask for service records, manuals, and tools, and research the car’s history. Prefer evidence of completed work over a low advertised price.
- Make a specialist inspection a condition of purchase. Use a Ferrari dealer or reputable independent specialist familiar with the model. The Ferrari Club of America Southwest Region and GQ’s buying feature both recommend an inspection.
- Match specification and provenance to your plans. Transmission and options can affect value; GQ’s specialist notes that later manual V8s are especially desirable, but that is attributed expert opinion from a 2017 feature, not a current price-premium study. Confirm that any unusual or competition-derived specification suits your intended use.
- Walk away from unexplained bargains. Ask what work is due and why the price is low. A specialist’s inspection and documented history can help distinguish a sound purchase from deferred maintenance.
As RM Sotheby’s specialist Alexander Weaver put it in GQ’s vintage Ferrari buying feature: “If you can’t afford a good Ferrari, you certainly can’t afford a bad one.” It is buying advice from Weaver, not a statement by Ferrari.

What is the cheapest Ferrari on this shortlist?
Motortopia’s 2026 secondary guide gives the Mondial a $20,000–$60,000 estimated range, the lowest starting figure among these candidates. That is a rough estimate, not a guarantee that a sound example can be bought at the low end or owned cheaply.

Are these prices current asking prices?
No. They are ranges reported by a 2026 secondary guide, which says it used market references including Hagerty Valuation Tools and auction results. The underlying records were not independently checked here, so verify the local market and the specific car before buying.
Is a cheaper Ferrari automatically a better budget buy?
No. A low purchase price can conceal deferred work, and the sources do not provide comparable current repair budgets for each model. Compare condition, records, and inspection findings, and keep a realistic reserve.
Rank #4

- Safe and Secure: Spark-proof during lead connection and automatically detects reverse polarity to ensure a correct, locked-in connection before providing power
Should I get a pre-purchase inspection?
Yes. The Ferrari Club of America Southwest Region and GQ’s buying feature both recommend an inspection. Use a Ferrari dealer or reputable independent specialist, and make the result part of your purchase decision.
Is the Ferrari California a budget option?
It may suit buyers seeking a more modern folding-hardtop and dual-clutch format, but the cited price context is dated: PistonHeads reported availability from £60,000 in a June 2020 UK article. That is not a 2026 price quote and should not be compared directly with U.S. estimates.
