ThAirCamper 5-Minute Inflatable Pickup Camper: Gen 2 Features, Fit and Real Setup Time

The ThAirCamper Gen 2 is an inflatable pickup camper designed to stay mounted while driving. Here is what the five-minute claim really means, plus fit, payload, comfort, weather and price details.

Short answer: The ThAirCamper Gen 2 is not a conventional truck tent that you unpack and erect after reaching camp. It is a 180-pound inflatable pickup-bed camper designed to remain mounted and inflated while you drive, then provide a compact enclosed sleeping space at camp. Its “five-minute” reputation needs qualification: that may describe a fast inflation claim under favorable conditions, not the complete first-time installation.

The concept is appealing for pickup owners who want something lighter and easier to store than a hard-sided camper. The compromises are equally important: limited standing room, careful payload and fit calculations, pressure management, puncture-repair responsibility, and uncertainty over exactly how quickly a new owner can get it fully travel-ready.

What the ThAirCamper actually is

The ThAirCamper is an inflatable truck-bed camper made from PVC drop-stitch material. Unlike an inflatable tent, it is intended to stay attached to the pickup during travel. At camp, the owner does not necessarily need to remove it or start from an empty truck bed; the camper can remain inflated between trips or be deflated for storage in a garage, closet, or the truck bed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That makes it closer in use to a lightweight slide-in truck camper than to a campsite tent, although its interior, structure, and weather performance are different from a rigid RV. The camper attaches to existing truck-bed tie-down points with the supplied tie-down equipment and does not require permanent vehicle modifications. Existing tonneau covers or bed covers generally need to come off because the ThAirCamper occupies the bed.

Price: verify the live offer before buying

The official pages do not currently show one consistent price. The Gen 2 product page lists a sale price of $2,895 against a regular price of $3,795. The company homepage separately displays a promotional price of $2,695 against a regular price of $3,100.

Those figures may reflect different promotions, page updates, or product-page timing. Treat them as time-sensitive rather than as a permanent MSRP or guaranteed discount. Confirm the price, what is included, shipping terms, and the final total at the live product page or checkout.

Why the “five-minute” setup claim is easy to misunderstand

There are several different time measurements in the available descriptions:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
What is being measured Reported time How to interpret it
Inflation using the included lithium-battery pump Under five minutes in a Homecrux report of the company’s claim A best-case or promotional inflation claim, not necessarily a complete installation
Older official FAQ estimate About 15 minutes Likely a broader inflation estimate than the five-minute claim
Newer official product-page estimate As fast as 30 minutes solo after practice A more cautious operational estimate for getting the camper ready
First setup Up to one hour Allows for learning the valves, positioning the camper, and securing the tie-downs
New Atlas estimate About 15 minutes for installation An independent estimate that may not measure exactly the same steps

The fairest conclusion is that the ThAirCamper is designed for rapid setup, but buyers should not budget on a guaranteed five-minute full install. Inflation, attaching every strap, checking the structure, arranging the interior, and preparing the truck for highway travel are separate tasks. A practiced owner may get close to the newer 30-minute estimate, while a first-time setup could take substantially longer.

The camper’s ability to stay inflated matters more than the headline number. If it is properly mounted and stored between campsites, the owner may avoid repeating the complete setup every night. That convenience is the central distinction between this product and an inflatable tent.

Truck compatibility: measure first, then use the fit tool

ThAirCamper gives minimum bed dimensions of:

  • 57 inches of width
  • 60 inches of length
  • 20 inches of depth

The manufacturer lists support for many mid-size and full-size pickups from Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Toyota, RAM, Honda, Nissan, and Jeep. Examples named in the company’s FAQ include the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, Ram 1500, Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Tundra, GMC Sierra, Nissan Titan, Nissan Frontier, Ford Ranger, and Chevrolet Colorado.

Brand-level compatibility is not enough. Bed length, usable width, wheel-well layout, tie-down locations, and the exact model year can affect whether the camper sits correctly and can be secured properly. The company’s homepage specifically says the Ford Maverick is not compatible.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before ordering, measure the actual truck bed and use ThAirCamper’s vehicle-specific make, model, and bed-size fit tool. Do not assume that a truck with a similar name or a longer nominal bed will work. Also confirm whether any bed accessories must be removed. A tonneau cover that works with ordinary cargo will generally interfere with a camper occupying the full bed.

Weight is only the beginning of the payload calculation

At a stated 180 pounds, the ThAirCamper is considerably easier to handle than many rigid truck campers. But 180 pounds is not the weight the truck carries on a trip.

The relevant calculation is closer to:

Available payload − camper − occupants − passengers’ belongings − water, food, batteries, and accessories = remaining payload

Include the built-in mattress, optional bunk, awning, stairs, shades, heating or cooling equipment, power station, camping supplies, and anything else loaded in or on the pickup. The manufacturer advises buyers to check the truck’s payload specification and subtract passengers and gear. Use the payload rating for the specific truck, cab, engine, drivetrain, and options rather than relying on a generic model brochure figure.

It is also sensible to consider axle ratings and how the load is distributed, not only the total payload number. If the calculation is close, have the loaded truck weighed and ask a qualified dealer or technician to inspect the installation.

Interior space and sleeping capacity

The camper includes a built-in six-inch air mattress and is marketed as sleeping three to four people. An optional bunk accessory provides another sleeping position. The available independent descriptions give a more practical picture of the interior: a floor sleeping area of roughly 77 by 44 inches, side benches, a low cab-over alcove, and an interior height of about 5.2 feet.

That height means most occupants can sit inside, but adults generally cannot stand upright. The space is better understood as a compact sleeping and shelter area than as a walk-in room.

The company lists these optional mattress sizes:

  • Full-size inflatable bed: 76 by 76 by 6 inches
  • Twin-oriented inflatable bed: 75 by 50 by 6 inches

The dimensions and layout explain the difference between advertised capacity and comfortable capacity. The manufacturer’s three-to-four-person claim may be possible with the intended sleeping arrangement and optional bunk, but Homecrux’s coverage considered two people a more realistic comfort expectation. That is an editorial impression rather than a standardized occupancy test, yet it is useful for setting expectations. Solo campers and couples are the clearest fit; a small family should inspect the floor plan and bunk arrangement carefully before committing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A generic truck bed air mattress can be useful as a replacement, spare, or supplementary sleeping surface for pickup camping, but do not assume it will fit the ThAirCamper. The 76-by-76-inch option, valve position, thickness, and the camper’s benches and alcove all matter. A mattress designed for an open truck bed may not work well inside this particular layout.

Four-season features, with important limits

ThAirCamper markets the Gen 2 as four-season-ready. Its stated weather features include:

  • Two-inch insulated walls
  • A fully enclosed interior
  • Weather-resistant PVC drop-stitch material
  • Screened and covered windows
  • An HVAC port for a fan, heater, or air-conditioning unit

The manufacturer also says owners have used the camper below 20°F. That is a company or owner-use claim, not independent laboratory validation of a particular interior temperature, R-value, condensation performance, or heating load.

Inflatable walls can reduce drafts and provide insulation, but they do not eliminate the need for climate control in severe conditions. New Atlas cautioned that inflatable-shell insulation alone may not be enough in particularly hot or cold weather. In practice, a heater, cooling unit, fan, or other external solution may still be necessary, and the HVAC port does not mean those appliances are included with the camper.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you add a portable heater for truck camper, cooling unit, or camping ventilation fan, follow the equipment manufacturer’s fuel, clearance, ventilation, carbon-monoxide, and operating instructions. Do not treat an HVAC port as permission to run combustion equipment inside an enclosed shelter without the required ventilation and safety controls. A compatible portable power station for camping may also be useful for electrical equipment, but its capacity, connectors, and weather protection need to match the equipment selected.

Puncture risk and pressure management

The PVC drop-stitch construction is marketed as puncture resistant, and the camper includes a patch kit. “Puncture resistant” is not the same as puncture-proof. Sharp branches, tools, rough bed hardware, and poor storage can still create problems.

  • Easy Installation Process: No special tools required for setup; attaches quickly to hose end and window panel for efficient venting
  • Airflow Direction Control: Helps direct warm exhaust air outside the vehicle interior, maintaining cooler space inside living area
  • Space-Saving Connection: Compact adapter profile allows placement near window without blocking walking paths or interior storage areas
  • Camping Trip Ready: Suitable for weekend getaways, summer road trips, and overnight stays in hot climate zones
  • Rigid Connection Support: Provides stable attachment between hose and window kit to prevent accidental detachment during AC operation

Pressure is another operational consideration. Temperature changes alter air pressure, so an owner may need to inspect and adjust the chambers after a large change in heat or cold. The valves, seams, and tie-down points deserve routine inspection, especially before a long drive. Carrying the included manual backup pump is sensible even if the powered pump is faster. A spare portable rechargeable air pump can also be useful, but check its valve adapters and output before relying on it; a generic air-mattress pump may not connect directly to the camper or inflate it effectively.

A practical repair kit should include the supplied patch materials, a way to locate a leak, and enough time and space to make a repair properly. Owners should not expect the inflatable format to be maintenance-free.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can you drive with it inflated?

Yes, that is the intended operating model. ThAirCamper says the camper can be driven at highway speeds when properly mounted with the included tie-down system. Its integrated D-rings and secure strapping are intended to keep it attached, and the hitch remains available for towing.

Those statements are manufacturer claims, not a substitute for a truck-specific safety inspection. Before driving:

  1. Confirm the camper is positioned correctly in the bed.
  2. Attach every required strap to suitable tie-down anchors.
  3. Check that straps are tight, correctly routed, and clear of exhaust heat and sharp edges.
  4. Inspect pressure, valves, seams, and visible contact points.
  5. Confirm that doors, windows, shades, and loose interior items are secured.
  6. Check the truck owner’s manual and local requirements for load height, visibility, lighting, and towing.
  7. Stop after a short distance and recheck the installation, then inspect it again during the trip.

Never interpret “safe at highway speeds when properly mounted” as a guarantee for every pickup, load configuration, weather condition, or installation. If the truck’s tie-down points or bed condition are questionable, resolve that issue before travelling.

Storage convenience versus hands-on management

The strongest practical advantage over a hard-sided camper is removability. A rigid shell may require dedicated outdoor storage or a substantial lifting system. The ThAirCamper can be deflated and stored in a garage, closet, or truck bed, making it easier for owners who use the pickup for ordinary work or errands.

It can also remain inflated between campsites, avoiding repeated erection and removal. The trade-off is that the owner must manage multiple valves, maintain correct pressure, secure the camper for travel, protect it from punctures, and carry out repairs if a leak develops. A hard shell is heavier and less convenient to store, but it generally requires less pressure management once installed.

ThAirCamper advantage ThAirCamper compromise
180-pound stated weight Still counts against the truck’s payload once loaded
Can remain mounted and inflated for travel Must be carefully tied down and inspected
Can be deflated for garage or closet storage Requires pump, valves, pressure checks, and repair planning
Enclosed shelter with insulated walls and HVAC port External heating or cooling may still be needed
No permanent bed modification is intended Tonneau and bed covers generally need removal
Potentially lower storage burden than a rigid shell Inflatable material remains more vulnerable to puncture than a rigid structure

Accessories and what is not included

The official store lists a full-size inflatable bed, twin bed, buddy-bed bunks, inflatable access stairs, a camouflage covering, window and rear-door shades, D-rings, and other camper accessories. The product page identifies the 270-degree awning and extra bunk as popular add-ons.

A ThAirCamper-specific awning should not be confused with a generic 270-degree truck awning. Mounting hardware, clearance, vehicle-side location, and load compatibility may differ. Verify the accessory’s fit before buying a generic overlanding awning.

A standalone inflatable bathroom with shower, water supply, and toilet has been described as a planned or developing add-on, not as a current included feature. Do not count on a bathroom being part of the standard Gen 2 package unless the live product listing expressly says so.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The current product information identifies tie-down equipment, a patch kit, a manual backup pump, the built-in mattress, and residential liftgate delivery among the supplied items. Because included equipment and promotions can change, confirm the exact package in the order documentation. In particular, verify whether the powered pump shown or described in promotional material is included in the configuration you are purchasing, rather than assuming every listing has identical contents.

Who should buy it?

The ThAirCamper makes the most sense for a pickup owner who:

Rank #4
Compatible with RV Portable AC Vent Adapter, 5.9 Inch Exhaust Hose
  • Optimized Compatibility and Precise Fit: Designed specifically for compatibility with RV portable air conditioning ventilation adapters, it seamlessly connects your portable air conditioning exhaust hose to the window or wall ventilation kits of campervans, RVs, and vans
  • Rugged and Durable, Weatherproof: Made from high-quality durable polymers, it withstands outdoor environments, road vibrations, and extreme temperature fluctuations. Ideal for travel trailers, RVs, and pop-up campers
  • Easy Tool-Free Installation: The quick-release snap-on or twist-up connection design allows you to install or remove your portable cooling system in seconds. Ideal for campers and travelers seeking a convenient, portable, and efficient cooling solution for the go
  • Enhanced Airflow and Cooling Efficiency: The smooth inner wall design minimizes air resistance and back pressure, improving exhaust efficiency and helping your portable air conditioner cool your living space faster and more quietly
  • Compact and Space-Saving Design: Its lightweight and low-profile construction takes up minimal storage space while traveling. An essential maintenance and upgrade accessory for mobile cooling and ventilation management
  • Has a compatible mid-size or full-size bed, excluding the Ford Maverick according to the manufacturer’s homepage
  • Has sufficient payload after adding people and camping gear
  • Wants an enclosed sleeping area without permanently dedicating the truck to a hard shell
  • Can accept sitting height instead of standing room
  • Usually camps solo or as a couple, or has carefully checked the bunk and sleeping arrangement for a family
  • Is comfortable checking tie-downs, pressure, valves, and puncture repairs
  • Has a plan for heating, cooling, ventilation, and electrical power in extreme weather

It is a weaker fit for someone who wants a walk-in interior, a built-in kitchen or bathroom, laboratory-proven four-season performance, or completely maintenance-free ownership. It is also not a direct substitute for a truck tent if the priority is maximum interior space at the lowest possible cost; the ThAirCamper’s value is that it can travel mounted and be stored deflated.

Pre-purchase checklist

  1. Verify the truck: use the manufacturer’s fit tool and compare the actual bed dimensions with the stated 57-inch width, 60-inch length, and 20-inch depth minimums.
  2. Check the payload: start with the truck’s real payload rating, then subtract the 180-pound camper, occupants, passengers, water, food, accessories, and equipment.
  3. Confirm the package: check the mattress, pump, tie-downs, patch kit, delivery method, and any included accessories in the live order details.
  4. Budget for climate control: the HVAC port is a connection point, not an included heater or air conditioner.
  5. Plan for covers: expect to remove an existing tonneau or bed cover unless the manufacturer confirms a compatible arrangement.
  6. Practice at home: learn the valves, pump, straps, and repair procedure before the first trip.
  7. Allow more than five minutes: especially for the first installation and the first highway inspection.
  8. Review support and return terms: the BBB profile lists ThAirCamper in Pittsford, New York, as not BBB accredited and not rated because the business had been operating for less than six months when assessed. BBB status alone does not prove a product is defective or fraudulent, but buyers should still read the company’s warranty, return, delivery, and customer-support terms carefully.

Our assessment

The ThAirCamper Gen 2 solves a specific problem: how to get an enclosed pickup camper that can travel in place but does not permanently consume the truck or require hard-shell storage. Its 180-pound stated weight, removable design, built-in six-inch mattress, tie-down installation, and potential for quick inflation make it an unusual alternative to both rigid campers and ordinary truck tents.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The “five-minute” label should not be the purchase decision. The more defensible expectation is fast inflation under favorable conditions, approximately 30 minutes for a practiced solo setup according to the newer product-page guidance, and potentially up to an hour the first time. Fit, payload, comfort, and weather planning are more consequential than the headline setup number.

For solo campers and couples with a correctly sized pickup, adequate payload, and realistic expectations about sitting height and inflatable-material maintenance, it could be a flexible camping shelter. Families wanting genuinely comfortable four-person living space, buyers needing a bathroom or stand-up interior, and drivers unwilling to manage pressure and tie-downs should look more closely at a rigid camper or another layout before ordering.

Claim note: Manufacturer specifications and claims are separated here from reported observations by New Atlas and Homecrux. The four-season and highway-use statements should be treated as product claims that still require appropriate equipment, installation, and vehicle-specific safety checks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the ThAirCamper really set up in five minutes?

Not reliably as a complete first-time installation. Homecrux reported the company’s under-five-minute inflation claim using the included lithium-battery pump, while the newer product page says a practiced solo setup can take as little as 30 minutes and a first setup may take up to an hour. Inflation, securing the camper, checking pressure, and preparing for highway travel are different steps.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will the ThAirCamper fit a Ford Maverick?

The manufacturer’s homepage specifically says the Ford Maverick is not compatible. For other pickups, do not rely on brand or model name alone. Check the actual bed dimensions and use ThAirCamper’s vehicle-specific fit tool.

Can the ThAirCamper stay inflated while driving?

Yes. It is designed to remain mounted and inflated during travel when properly secured with its tie-down system. Inspect the straps, pressure, valves, seams, and contact points before driving, and follow the truck owner’s manual and local requirements.

Can adults stand inside the ThAirCamper?

Generally no. Independent descriptions place the interior height at approximately 5.2 feet. Most occupants can sit inside, but the camper is primarily a compact sleeping and shelter space rather than a stand-up room.

Is the ThAirCamper genuinely four-season?

The manufacturer markets it as four-season-ready and cites two-inch insulated walls, enclosed construction, screened and covered windows, and an HVAC port. It also reports use below 20°F. Those statements are not independent laboratory validation, and external heating or cooling may still be necessary in severe weather.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How much truck payload does it use?

The camper itself is listed at 180 pounds, but the truck must carry the camper plus occupants, bedding, water, food, batteries, heating or cooling equipment, and all other gear. Compare the complete loaded weight with the specific truck’s payload and axle ratings.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The ThAirCamper is best understood as a removable, travel-ready inflatable truck camper—not a five-minute pop-up tent. Its compact storage and 180-pound stated weight are compelling, but buyers should verify truck fit and payload, expect a longer first setup, plan for climate control and pressure checks, and regard three-to-four-person capacity as a tight arrangement rather than guaranteed comfort.
