Reviews and owner feedback point to a more complicated decision: launch-era critics objected to technical problems, progression and the always-online design, while later player comments include both praise and complaints. It is best approached cautiously, with your platform and tolerance for online-service dependence in mind.
What kind of racing game is Solar Crown?
Developed by KT Racing and published by Nacon, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown was released on September 12, 2024. Nacon presents it as a massively multiplayer open-world racing game set on Hong Kong Island. The central loop combines buying and customizing cars, driving around the island, displaying vehicles at the Solar Hotel and meeting other players in social hubs. Nacon’s product page is the source for that premise and the game’s published PC requirements.

That focus gives the game a different appeal from a racer organized mainly around short, isolated events: the draw is spending time with cars and exploring a setting, as much as reaching the next race. Whether that loop works for you depends on how much patience you have for its progression and how comfortable you are with a game that relies on online services.
What do reviews and players say?
Launch-era critic reviews
Critic excerpts collected on Metacritic’s review page from the September–October 2024 launch period include substantial criticism of technical quality and progression. Some launch reviews also objected to the always-online requirement and server problems. These are dated launch reactions, not a controlled assessment of the game’s current condition.

Later player feedback
The Metacritic page also includes a 2026 player account describing enjoyment after changes while still calling the opening slow and grind-heavy. On the US PlayStation Store page, individual owner comments dated February, July and August 2026 range from praise for car detail and sound to reports of crashes, trouble accessing the game and controller issues. Those accounts illustrate different experiences; they do not establish how frequently each problem occurs or what every platform is like.
At access on October 8, 2026, the US PlayStation Store listing showed an average owner rating of 2.17/5 from 29,995 ratings. That is a dated snapshot for the PS5 storefront, not a critic score or a cross-platform measure. Ratings and comments can change, so check the listing for its current figures.

What has changed since launch—and what remains unclear?
In a September 2024 launch feedback announcement, Nacon acknowledged that many players had connection or access problems, with some cases persisting in certain regions and on certain platforms; it also mentioned a save issue. The publisher said the team was prioritizing service improvements and optimization. Its announcement described a planned first major patch with more than 300 fixes, but a launch plan is not proof that every named problem was fixed or that service is stable now. Read Nacon’s launch feedback announcement for the historical context.
The same announcement described PS5 and Xbox Series X|S quality mode as 1440p/30 FPS and performance mode as 1080p/60 FPS at that time. Those are dated publisher statements, not independent performance tests or a guarantee of current results. The sources here do not establish a controlled comparison between PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, or confirm the present state of servers, patches or specific steering-wheel models.

| Operating system | Windows 10 | Windows 10 |
| Processor | Intel Core i7-7700K or AMD Ryzen 7 1800X | Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X |

| Published target | Low settings, 1080p/30 FPS using FSR 2 Ultra Performance | Medium settings, 1080p/60 FPS using DLSS or FSR 2 Balanced |
These figures describe what Nacon lists for PC; they do not demonstrate how a particular system performs. The recommended target also uses upscaling, so it should not be read as a native-resolution benchmark.
Is it worth playing now?
Consider it if the combination of car collecting, customization and open-world cruising is the main attraction, and you accept that online access is central to the experience. Be more cautious if you want a reliably offline game, expect a brisk early progression curve or need confirmed current performance on a specific platform. The available reviews and store comments give reasons to weigh those trade-offs, but they cannot settle whether the service is currently reliable for you. Before buying, check recent feedback and the relevant platform listing; for PC, compare your hardware with Nacon’s published specifications.
